Title: Those Mighty-Mighty 49ers
Post by: Sunstroke on November 27, 2019, 09:47:33 am

Got tired of talking 49ers in an AFC Championship thread...and the way the 49ers are playing...well, I think they deserve their own thread.

San Francisco vs Baltimore this weekend in the second step of our 3-step "Whatcha Got?" dance. Green Bay went down with no fight whatsoever, and now we get the insanely scary Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in arguably the most hyped game the 49ers have played in since our last playoff run.

Scary stat for the Ravens that I saw in my feed yesterday... The Ravens have only punted the ball twice in the past 3 games...and Robert Griffin III was the QB for Baltimore on both of those drives.

News that made me smile... Baltimore will be without their starting center for this game, and with the 49ers' D-line, that could be an important absence.

Game starts at 1:00 ET on Sunday...anyone who might be in the area (West Boca) is invited to Casa del Sol for the festivities.

These next two games could be the two best games of the regular season league wide.

A 49rs victory this weekend will pretty much guarantee NE gets the one seed in the AFC.  A Ravens win keeps the pressure on a vulnerable NE offense.  I am a 49rs fan this week.

Regardless of the outcome of Ravens 49rs, the following week 49rs Saints match up will likely determine who hosts the NFCCG.

Well, they lost.

Hopefully the Seahawks win tomorrow night.

It would be hilarious if the Seahawks took the division because they didn't settle for the tie.

Saw some of the game.  Would not be surprised in the least if those two teams meet in SB.

Great game...hopefully we'll get another shot at them on a neutral field before the season is done. ;)

Amazing game.  I thought both teams afforded themselves well.  I love the 49ers this year.  I think the Vikings will present their biggest challenge in the NFC.

You would be better off if someone else knocked them off.  And faced NE, Texans or Chiefs at a neutral field.

I hope everyone was able to watch the insanely enjoyable 49ers-Saints slugfest this weekend...because it was definitely as fun as football gets.

GO NINERS!!

Awesome game.  That defense has looked pretty leaky in the last two weeks, but awesome game.

Well, things are right where I want them to be.

If Seattle beats the 49ers and wins out, and SF wins out except for Seattle, They will both have the same record, but Seattle will take the division on the tiebreaker.

This would drop SF to the fifth seed, where they could have had the first seed if they had taken the tie.

Nope.  I was watching the Bills-Ravens game.

I don't hate SF.  In fact, if they won the Super Bowl, I would be delighted (assuming they won it fair and square), however, it would be nice to be proven right once again.

Frankly, I just wish you'd avoid this thread... Your comment on the tie game scenario was industrial-strength stupid when you posted it, and the fact that you're still pushing that idiocy almost a month later is extremely annoying...even for you.

I have been right more than once

Remember the Cooks play in the Super Bowl, where I said I was PI, you said it was not, and the NFL agreed with me?

Props to Jimmy G and the Niners for going on the road into a super tough environment, going toe to toe with a legend and coming out on top.

And Stroke, with the way the Hawks lost to the Rams, you may be right that they will blow it at home to end the season.  But still, that's going to be an epic battle for the division.

Here's to looking ahead to the showdown with Seattle and as a result, getting punched in the mouth at home by a bottom feeding team.

Here's to looking ahead to the showdown with Seattle and as a result, getting punched in the mouth at home by a bottom feeding team.

Both teams are 11-3

If they both lose next weekend, winner next week takes all

If they both win next weekend, winner next week takes all

If Seattle loses and SF wins next week winner next week takes all

If SF loses and Seattle wins next week, Seattle clinches the division no matter what happens week 17

Now let's make Seattle 10-3-1 and SF 11-2-1

If they both won or lost next weekend, it would still be winner take week 17

If Seattle lost and SF won next week, they'd be 10-4-1 and 12-2-1, giving SF the division

If Seattle won and SF lost next weekend they'd be 11-3-1 and 11-3-1, meaning winner take all again week 17

I rest my case

That's an awful lot of words to say, "A tie is better a loss."  Had SF known that the only possible outcomes were a tie and a loss, I imagine they would have picked a tie.

However, you completely discount what would have happened had SF won.  Had they won that game, they would be in a position to clinch the #1 seed next week regardless of what SEA does.

Like, I said earlier, there was nothing wrong with playing for the win, but they should have left the option open for the tie.

Their mistake was that their play calling didn't enable them to do that.

Heck, they could STILL have played for the win and not left enough time for Seattle to win even if they had to punt.  They got the WORST possible result of that sequence barring a turnover.  You can run the ball on first down, run 25-30 seconds off the clock, then take two shots down the field.

The one thing you CAN'T do?  Throw three incomplete passes and leave Seattle with enough time to win the game.  That's what they did.

No they wouldn't have.   As long as Seattle keeps pace and remains a game behind, the showdown in Seattle in week 17 will be for the division and the top seed

Well, the NFC west title will come down to the week 17 game between SF and SEA

It's interesting for SF.  If they win, they get the number one seed.  If they lose, they get the number 5 seed.

NO, GB, and SEA are 11-3.

Those tiebreakers are lot more complicated.

(Note: In the playoffs, none of these times will defeat NE in the Super Bowl, so I guess it doesn't really matter in the end)

Somebody talked about flexing SEA-SF game to Sunday night.  Can they do that legally according to NFL rules?

It would be great if they could

I see the Ravens as NE’s greatest hurdle to win the SB.

I doubt MIA will pose much of a threat to prevent the #2 seed.

And I am confident NE can win a home playoff game after a bye.

But beating the Ravens in Baltimore would require NE playing a flawless game and a couple of lucky bounces.

If NE can get past Baltimore, I like their chances against the NFC champion.

Several things wrong here

1) The Patriots are a team not a person, so nobody could beat HIM.  A team could beat THEM.

2) Brees, Rodgers, or Garopollo will not be playing the Patriots in the SuperBowl.  A TEAM will.  Could that team beat the Patriots?  Absolutely, but if history is any indication, they will do everything in their power to make sure the Patriots win.

Wow

The Seahawks come up short at the goal line once again.  That delay penalty really hurt.  Also, the refs definitely missed a penalty on the 49ers the play before.

However, it wouldn't have come down to that without that absurd personal foul on the 49ers last drive.  I call those kinds of penalties "EI" calls (Excitement infusers).  Refs make them in order to set up exciting finishes.

Congratulations Stroke.  See below.

Keep in mind you wind up the season in Seattle who beat you at home and is only a game behind you.   They keep pace and that game will be for all the marbles.  Hell, if I was the NFL, I'd flex that game to Sunday night.

They beat us with roughly 1/3 of our roster on the injured list. I'm looking forward to the payback. :-)

Bow down to the great SunStrokeDamus

Totally stoked that my 49ers locked down that #1 seed. What an insane finish that was!

We may very well end up playing Seattle in back to back games, if New Orleans beats Minnesota (probable) and Seattle beats Philly (possible).

The good news...we get our second best pass rusger (Dee Ford) back in time for our first playoff game, as well as our starting LG, Mike Person.

LET'S GO NINERS!!

49ers are set to get LB Kwon Alexander, DE Dee Ford and OG Mike Person back in time for this weekend's game, and that is absolutely huge. I was lighting candles in the hopes that we could go into the playoffs with a healthy roster, and those candles are starting to smell pretty sweet.

When Kwon and Dee Ford were healthy at the beginning of the season, the 49ers defense was insane...on an almost historic level. Then they both got hurt, and the defense mellowed a little bit. To get both back just in time for a playoff run puts a big ol' smile on my face.

I know it won't happen, but I'd kind of like to see Tannehill win it all. After what he went through here with Gase's bullshit. Makes me wonder what Flores could have done with him.
