I don't think it's all that serious, though.

I had a skin cancer removed a few years ago.  Now, I went to the dermatologist for an unrelated thing and had a biopsy done on a weird growth on the top of my head.

Today, I find out it's cancer.

It's a basil cell (sp?) and that's supposed to be the least serious kind.  But, because it's on my head, I don't think they just want to cut it out, because I'll have a big bald spot (and look like Guatarrican).  So, I have a consultation on the 10th to talk about alternatives that can save some of my skin.

I love you, Jesus.  :-*

Assuming this is not another one of your April Fools....... You might want to consider cutting your hair like mine on a regular basis.  You might look good. 

I'd look like a Schindler's List extra.

Unfortunately, the only April Fool's part of it is the part about Jesus.

Tommy, I suspect the other one is an AF, seeing as he's still down as a moderator for the Other Sports Forum.

If Dave banned him but didn't change his status, he'll still show as a mod.  You just won't see him on here again.

Dave, I'm sorry to hear that you are having to go through this.  But hang in there.  Medical science has come a LONG way in a lot of cancer treatments.  We'll be sending positive thoughts your way, brother.  By the way, the "I love you Jesus" comment was classic.  And I'm assuming the post about your cancer is legit because that would be WAY inappropriate as an April Fool's Joke. 

Especially regarding skin cancer.  I'll pray for you Dave, but I'm confident you'll make a full recovery.

Cancer is the one thing you don't joke about.  Not funny, AT ALL.

I chatted with Dave earlier. The cancer thing is legit, as is the Maine thing. He told me some of the remarks Maine made to him, which led to my comment above.

  Dave, you're gonna be okay.  Go lay the smackdown on cancer's candy ass!

Maine did a lot of good for the site.  Sad to see him go.  I'll miss him.

I am sorry to hear about this Dave.  But I know you will push past this and be just fine.  I wish you luck and hope for the best.

Dave - what your DR told you is true.  If you had to pick a cancer to get the one you were dx'd with would be the one.  Any high level info you might need, let me know?

I'm sorry to hear about this Dave, (had to make sure it wasn't an april folls joke) I hope you make a very speedy recovery....

Cancer update:

I went in for a consultation today, which was basically sitting in the waiting room, then them asking me if I have any medical conditions for about 3 minutes, and then charging me $80 bucks.

I am going to have Moh's surgery in 2 weeks.  It's local anesthesia and done on-site, but it takes a long time.  The goal is to keep as much of your healthy skin as possible and minimize scarring.  It's essentially the same as a biopsy, where they just cut a small layer off, but then they view it under a microscope -- if there's still cancer, they take another layer ... again and again.  It takes time to study each layer, so I'll probably be in there getting worked on in one way or another for about 3 hours.  Most of that time will be me just sitting around with a numb-skull.  Apropos.

On a serious side though...as someone who knows the big C too well, good luck with the procedure. If the doc says it will leave a bald spot, maybe he can do the spot in the shape of the Phins logo or something.

Hey Dave, if it leaves a scar, you can make up a cool macho story about how you got it!  (bar fight, motorcycle wreck, etc)   :)

Or how about tell the truth and say "I'm a cancer survivor" which is much more courageous and impressive in my opinion.

How about "I am a cancer survivor that got into a bar fight while riding my motorcycle at 110mph?"  No one would ever F with you again.

I am familair with your surgery, Dave.  You'll be fine.  Easy to say, I know.  They wouldn't even mess around with Moh's if they weren't 100% sure that they couldn't get this resolved with surgery.  Postive thoughts mean a lot, keep your chin up.

So, I had my surgery today.

Lucky for me, they got it in only one try, so it wasn't that deep, and only took about an hour and a half to get in and out.  I have about 12 stitches in my head.  It didn't hurt at all, but it feels weird, especially because it's on your head and you can "hear" it from the inside.

I bled more than usual, but everything is cool.  My head hurts a little now, but I'm fine.

Glad to hear they didn't have to dig too deep to get it out...that should make it so it heals more quickly. Until it heals though, I think you should use Maine's "cancer victim barfight on a speeding motorcycle" line to entice attractive women into sympathetically rubbing your bean.

Cancer sucks. It feels like I'm surrounded by it this week. (My boss's mother and my coworkers mom both are in chemo. A girl I know in Michigan that lost her mom last year to cancer was just told that her father has terminal lung cancer. My grandfather is losing his battle with prostate cancer.) 

I wish no one had to worry about it.

My head actually hurts today.  This has an incision with stitches, and it's pretty sore today.
