Title: Round two Post by: Philly Fin Fan on April 23, 2008, 08:09:30 pm So now that Long is in the fold, what do you think will transpire with pick #32?
I've been reading a lot of blogs/articles saying that the team really is high on Flacco or Henne and looking to nab one of them in round 2. Personally, I think they need to go CB with pick #32. Title: Re: Round two Post by: TonyB0D on April 23, 2008, 08:20:05 pm i think we'll take the QB with our 2nd 2nd rounder.
with the 1st 2nd round pick, i'd think tuna will want LB/DB help. Title: Re: Round two Post by: Rick on April 23, 2008, 08:30:26 pm I hope Miami goes after a speed pass rusher/ D-Lineman like Q. Groves from Auburn, Marcus Harrison from Arkansas or C. Campbell from Miami if he is still undrafted. MLB Dan Connor out of Penn State is someone to consider at 32. Another MLB I watched alot in college was Curtis Lofton out of Oklahoma, who we might be able to get with the later 2nd round pick we got for Chambers. He was a big time playmaker for the Sooners and would look good in aqua and orange.
Tight end would also be a good way to go. John Carlson from Notre Dame and Dustin Keller of Purdue would both be good picks in round 2. I can understand Parcells/Ireland/Sparano picking Henne or Flacco in the 2nd round if they think Beck will not be a quality Qb in the NFL. It ought to be a very interesting draft weekend. Title: Re: Round two Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 23, 2008, 09:56:45 pm I'd love to see Groves, or Aquib Talib.

I've been reading a lot of blogs/articles saying that the team really is high on Flacco or Henne and looking to nab one of them in round 2. Personally, I think they need to go CB with pick #32. I disagree. Yeremiah Bell will be coming back to man the secondary. Plus, as 2006 showed us, it is still possible to have a great defense with a weak secondary. I think that a pass-rushing LB should be taken at that pick. If none is available, go for the quarterback Title: Re: Round two Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on April 23, 2008, 10:51:41 pm I think this draft will affect us for years to come. This year is the one that will define what our team will be like for years. Hopefully we make a smart move with our second pick just like our first.
I would like to see someone to aid in the run defense or pass rush. Like someone mentioned earlier, we should see Bell back and at least have a little bit of help back there. Our LB's are decent enough for what our team is so I think a D-lineman would be best. Our pick in the second is high enough to still pick up a top tier lineman (hopefully).... If not much is left at D-lineman, then I would go with a QB. We have a second pick in the second round so the payoff of a QB developing nicely far outweighs the loss of one of 2 picks in this round. Title: Re: Round two Post by: TonyB0D on April 23, 2008, 11:25:34 pm they're going to try and trade back up in the first round anyways, maybe by trading JT for a 2nd rounder. that would net us 3 2nd rounders (and one of those is 'technically' a 1st rounder)
Title: Re: Round two Post by: bsfins on April 23, 2008, 11:51:51 pm Y.Bell is also 30,and coming off another injury....So the secondary, could use another guy, especially with some upside, but I don't see us using a pick this high on secondary...Aquib Talib, will be gone, and his recent admission of failed drug tests in college....IMO rules him out....Crocker signed a one year (28 yo),Bell is on a one year deal (30 yo),Renaldo Hill Coming off injury (30 Yo), Cameron Worrell coming off injury (29 yo),Kieth Davis Special teamer (30 yo) Our Youth Courtney Bryant (24 yo) Jason Allen (25 yo)
CBs Will Allen 30,Travis Daniels 26,Andre Goodman 30,Micheal Lehan 29,Harris Tuff 25,Jerome Perry 27,Joey Thomas 28,Nathan Jones 26... Looking at those lists, alot of guy's coming off of injury,or had nagging injuries all year last year...Or option three...Who? I pray we don't trade back into the first round... I wouldn't be shocked if we go QB,DL,pass rusher..but I'm going to crawl out on Sunstrokes thin Limb, and say O-lineman...(modfied to add...) I still see a hole at guard on our roster, and we're lacking depth on our O-line. I'd like to see us take Dan Connor MLB....Channing Crowder is in the last year of his contract, and needs to show me something this year....Charlie Anderson, and Reggie Torbor we picked up in free agency... Title: Re: Round two Post by: Sunstroke on April 23, 2008, 11:59:30 pm I hope they take the absolutely best talent that's still available at ANY of our remaining need positions. I think with all of the late first round DBs in this class, there's a very good chance that a couple of those guys will slide into the second round. Brandon Flowers, Talib are good possibilities. I think there will be some good edge rushers there at the start of rd 2 as well. Groves would be nice, or maybe Lawrence Jackson out of USC. If Miami went after Joe Flacco at that spot, I wouldn't be upset either.
I'm with Rick on targeting Curtis Lofton with the late 2nd rounder...that'd be a nice talent to get at that slot for sure. If Miami wanted to add a second blue chip O-lineman, OG Chilo Rachal could still be on the board at that spot. I wouldn't be shocked if we go QB,DL,pass rusher..but I'm going to crawl out on Sunstrokes thin Limb, and say O-lineman... This was when I was pretty sure we were going DE with the #1. With Jake as the pick, I don't see two more O-linemen in rd 2. One, maybe, but bet they wait until the later second rounder rather than expend their top two picks on O-line. Title: Re: Round two Post by: tubba marxxx on April 24, 2008, 03:05:50 pm with 2 2nd rounds picks (possibly more if a taylor deal gets done) i would love miami to take james hardy...w.r. from Indiana....he's a shade under 6'6'' and runs a 4.5 40 and i think would make an incredible addition to the corps w/ ginn and wilford mixing up the packages.....and take either henne or flacco at the 57 pick
Title: Re: Round two Post by: Philly Fin Fan on April 24, 2008, 03:07:26 pm and take either henne or flacco at the 57 pick No way either one of them last that long. In fact, there are rumors Miami may trade back into round one to grab either one of them! Title: Re: Round two Post by: Sunstroke on April 24, 2008, 03:08:51 pm with 2 2nd rounds picks (possibly more if a taylor deal gets done) i would love miami to take james hardy...w.r. from Indiana....he's a shade under 6'6'' and runs a 4.5 40 and i think would make an incredible addition to the corps w/ ginn and wilford mixing up the packages.....and take either henne or flacco at the 57 pick Man, I pimped James Hardy pretty heavy on our radio show, and would love to see Miami find a way to get him... Unfortunately, I really don't think Hardy will slide out of round one. Henne and Flacco are expected to go real early in round 2 as well (some say teams are gonna trade back into the backside of round one for Flacco), so not sure either will be around at #58. Title: Re: Round two Post by: DolFan619 on April 24, 2008, 03:22:33 pm I don't think we take a quarterback with our two second round and third round picks. From my understanding, and from what I've heard and read, is that Miami really, really, really wants DE/LB Quentin Groves. Also at the top of the second round, Virginia Tech's Brandon Flowers could still be available. One of the prequisites for a Bill Parcells CB is that you have to tackle and be effective in supporting the run. Brandon Flowers is exceptional at both. Plus, a lot of good WR's could fall through the first round cracks. Oh, and there's the possibility of TE Dustin Keller being around at that time as well. Unless, you're comfortable with David Martin. Which I'm not.
Kevin O'Connell, Ryan O'Hara, Josh Johnson, and Eric Ainge can be had in the later rounds. To me, the later round quarterbacks give you more bang for your buck. Title: Re: Round two Post by: Dolphin-UK on April 24, 2008, 03:34:41 pm If this draft defines the foundation of our team for years to come, then lets start by laying the foundations. Draft an OG, to build with Long, and then go after a deep threat WR.
It takes WRs at least a season to get into the grrove, he may as well do it while we run the ball a lot behind our killer OL. We also keep the defense off the field more. If McCown is the starter, I'm not keen on having two development QB's backing him up. Title: Re: Round two Post by: Sunstroke on April 24, 2008, 04:28:08 pm I don't think we take a quarterback with our two second round and third round picks. From my understanding, and from what I've heard and read, is that Miami really, really, really wants DE/LB Quentin Groves. I think Miami will have to jump ahead of SF at #29 to get Groves, because Nolan and the 49ers seem to be pretty tunnel-visioned in on him right now. As a duly appointed representative of the 49ers, I am authorized to offer Miami the #29 pick for #32 and their 4th rounder. ;D Title: Re: Round two Post by: CF DolFan on April 24, 2008, 04:29:54 pm No way either one of them last that long. In fact, there are rumors Miami may trade back into round one to grab either one of them! I saw that too but I think it's BS. It was bought up that if Miami was trying to trade up they certainly wouldn't give a clue as to why or for who. Title: Re: Round two Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on April 24, 2008, 04:52:51 pm I think Miami will have to jump ahead of SF at #29 to get Groves, because Nolan and the 49ers seem to be pretty tunnel-visioned in on him right now. Some players Miami will look at with the rest of the draft OK guys here are some names of players I have unearthed that the Dolphins are very, very, very interested in. This is not a complete list by any means but it includes names you might not have seen mentioned by other news sources. We know Jake Long is a done deal. But the rumors about the Dolphins liking other Michigan players based on the friendship between Bill Parcells and Lloyd Carr are accurate. When Long visited the Dolphins a while back, receiver Mario Manningham and quarterback Chad Henne were also here. The three had dinner with coach Tony Sparano, GM Jeff Ireland and offensive coordinator Dan Henning. Henne worked out for the Dolphins, by the way, but he also worked for the Tampa Bay Bucs and the Falcons. Watch for Manningham as third round pick if he's around. He didn't run well (4.6) at the combine and had issues with marijuana but that might still make him a value in the third round or even the fourth round. Another Michigan player the Dolphins like on the second day is Michigan receiver Adrian Arrington. Arrington is neither fast, explosive nor a great route runner. But he is has good hands, is a fine blocker, isn't afraid to go over the middle and, at nearly 6-3, has the body to get bigger and stronger. We know the Dolphins love Auburn linebacker/defensive end Quentin Groves (pictured). He's the guy I believe the team will take with No. 32, if he is available. They also like Auburn DT Pat Sims as a second-round pick. Another possible second round pick is Penn State inside linebacker Dan Connor who is a little light for the 3-4 at 230 pounds, but could easily add some bulk. Connor had character issues. He missed three games in 2005 after he got caught making harassing phone calls. But that is reportedly is something Connor addressed with the Dolphins during his visit with them. Sims has good bulk and he is VERY explosive off the ball which typically makes him a disruptive force when he can disengage from the center. Keep your eyes on him when the Dolphins are picking in the second round. The Dolphins still have not made a decision on Reagan Mauia following his arrest for punching somebody at an Ale House parking lot earlier this month. So look for them to hedge their bet by adding a fullback either in the draft or as an undrafted free agent. Miami likes Idaho fullback Rolly Lumbala, who worked out for them. I realize the Dolphins are telling everyone Vernon Carey is going to right tackle. But the fact of the matter is the previous regime finished last season convinced Carey is best suited for a guard position. I don't know if this regime shares that idea but I do know the Dolphins really like Toledo offensive tackle John Greco. Greco has drawn interest from numerous clubs over the past few months, including formal interviews at the Combine with San Diego, Miami, Dallas, Arizona, St. Louis, Detroit and Indianapolis. The Colts and Miami were also prominent among the teams that were looking at him recently. Greco seems like a perfect right tackle candidate. The Dolphins need a tight end because David Martin simply didn't get it done last year. Watch for Tennessee's Brad Cottam, who had personal workouts with the Miami, the Chiefs, Falcons, Browns and Jets. Cottom is a second-day player also. University of Miami linebacker Tavares Gooden showed great speed at the Combine. He visited the Dolphins during their chats with local players but he didn't work out for them then. He would be a good value in the third round. The Ravens love the kid, but they love many UM players. Finally, watch for Purdue CB Terrell Vinson. Purdue's productive cornerback has received repeated inquiries from the Cleveland Browns, but he's also been in contact with the Dolphins, Panthers, Texans, Colts, Chiefs, and Vikings recently. He is 5-9 and 183 pounds and, as you might guess at that size, he is quick, running the 40 in 4.47. But he is deceptively strong having done 16 reps of the 225 pound bench press at the Combine. I will add more names as I come across them. I will also do a live chat on The Herald website from 1-2 p.m on Friday. Join me there. I will be on 790 The Ticket from 1-3 p.m. Saturday so you can listen locally or on the Internet at 790theticket.com. Feel free to call with your comments. I will be blogging live from Dolphins camp once the draft begins. Join me here then. On Arrington...if you go back to the first TDMMC show that Dave hosted, I mentioned Arrington, and the fact that, by the time the season was over, I liked him a little bit more than his more celebrated teammate. The reasons noted by this blogger were part of that, but I also think he plays faster than he clocks, and really doesn't have any speed problems at all. On Manningham...4 weeks ago, he was a borderline first rounder. Now he's looking like a third rounder. I'd prefer to see some other team take a chance on the guy...there will be plenty of quality receivers in the middle rounds this weekend. On Greco... To give credit where credit is due, WalterFootball.com's Matt McGuire listed him in his first appearance as a mid-round tackle who could turn into something pretty special. He also noted that he'd make a better right tackle than left. On Henne... I don't have any problem with Henne, but I feel that Flacco will be the better NFL QB, and IF we do go QB in round two, I hope Flacco is the choice. Honestly, I'd rather see Miami go later in the draft on a developmental QB (Dixon or O'Connell or even Smith would make me smile on day two), and use all of the early picks on blue chip OL/DL/LB/DBs to support our skill position guys... Maybe a WR in rd 3-4, if a really high quality one slips, but really...you can wait on WR and still get quality. I think the Irish Tuna understands that "win from the line out" is the ultimate football truth, and I fully expect to see 4 of the first 5 picks go on OL or DL (with edge rushing OLB counting as DL). Can't wait for saturday...oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! Title: Re: Round two Post by: yuppi on April 24, 2008, 07:38:11 pm I think chenne and flacco are too esxpensive to go so early at round two espicially when comparable guys liike kentucky's qb and erik ainge will be available
Title: Re: Round two Post by: tubba marxxx on April 25, 2008, 01:20:21 am spell check for the win....and andre woodson?.....apparently beck is our guy...he seemed to settle in his own against the bengals....
Title: Re: Round two Post by: Dave Gray on April 25, 2008, 04:30:50 am Hey Tubba,
Welcome to the site. Title: Re: Round two Post by: Philly Fin Fan on April 25, 2008, 11:25:59 am Brandon Flowers, Talib are good possibilities. I think there will be some good edge rushers there at the start of rd 2 as well. How many other celebrities can we draft? We already got kids cartoon star American Dragon Jake Long. Now you mention we should draft the lead singer from The Killers, Brandon Flowers. Who else is available in the draft with a famous name? Title: Re: Round two Post by: DolFan619 on April 25, 2008, 04:50:29 pm apparently beck is our guy...he seemed to settle in his own against the bengals.... Well, I would hope that he is. Regardless, if Beck wants to have any chance at success in 2008, this team needs to give him some more weapons. Especially at TE! Add another WR or two to the mix as well as another OG to compete with Drew Mormino. Jake Long was an excellent first step, in helping Beck achieve success. Title: Re: Round two Post by: bsfins on April 25, 2008, 05:26:13 pm ^^ you think we all missed the sign,They're working on John Becks throwing motion, making sure his release point is higher...because we're gonna draft a 6'7" left tackle? :D
