Title: Seven year old given Mike's Hard Lemonade?
Post by: StL FinFan on April 30, 2008, 10:06:15 pm
Did anyone hear about this.  Supposedly it happened at a Detroit Tigers game.  The father did not know it was alcohol and bought one for his 7 year old.   :o

I found several articles about it:

Typical government overkill that goes on nowadays.  Yeah, the dad made a big mistake, but does it constitute placing the child in foster care and barring the dad from his own house??

Agreed.

Kind of a dumb mistake.

This is exactly how my state would have handled this.  If the child is not in immediate harm then my state goes into Nazi like overkill.  If the child IS in immediate harm then my state does nothing.   Really.

By age 7, I was sneaking a helluva lot harder stuff than Mike's out of Dad's liquor cabinet.

This kid probably took more damage from the ER doctor drawing his blood than he did from that tiny little bit of alcohol. The pussification of America is shifting into overdrive...

I've got to agree. It was a pretty dumb mistake.......but I can definitely see it happening. The state does nothing about Parents who Chain smoke in a closed Mini Van but they want to cruicfy this guy. My only hope is that they knew this was going National so they broke out all the stops to CYA themselves. I'd certianly take it up with the company and possibly even the Stadium and the vendor.

They should be glad he wasn't abused in one of those wonderful foster homes.

This was a dumb mistake, but that child shouldn't have been taken from the home. Period.
I was given beer as a child and I turned out ok.

Most foster homes are not bad environments.  You only hear about the bad ones, but most places are good with the children's interests at heart.  Here, unless the parents are a direct threat to the child, they are usually allowed visitation in the foster home as well.

I second that.  My cousin is a foster parent and they take the babies born drug addicted that nobody else wants.

Thing is.........as long as they investigated it and came to the conclusion that there was no bad Intent they should have just let it go. Maybe did a follow up in a few days , a week.   When the kid grows up do you think he would have remembered this incident? Now.........You betcha. THEY traumatized the kid unnecessarily to show there concern and cover their asses. This is a direct result of Dumb people who only know how to follow the letter of the law because they are just too stupid to come up with their own conclusions in a grey area.

The problem here was someone jumped the gun and got a court order before the details were known that it was accidental.  Once the court order is issued, it has to be carried out.  Whoever went running to a judge before they knew the details is the person to blame.  I applaud the family for taking the high road.

I agree with you, but that is Child Protective Services doing that, not the foster homes.  I was just stating that not all foster homes are bad.  What happened here was completely unnecessary.

Where's that comment about letting the judge sort it out?  (http://www.prieteni.com/layout/images/emoticons/whistle.gif)

Bad parents....
What parents?  Grandma has custody and she sounds scared of disciplining him.  Surely I'm not the only dad who's looked his son in the eye and said, "I'll gladly go to jail if I think it'll help you."  He knows what I mean.

Grandma - it's way to late to start whipping his behind now - you're in big trouble.  It's only going to get worse.
