Title: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Dave Gray on May 06, 2008, 12:28:59 pm What's the best vacation you've had?
-- I've had some good ones, and gone to some really fun places all around the world. However, I think that my most recent trips to Vegas was one of the best. Man, that city is fun. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: MaineDolFan on May 06, 2008, 12:35:46 pm My best vacation ever was two weeks in Hawaii. Fantastic.
Close second? Rented a house on a lake right here in Maine. Sometimes you don't need to go far to find perfect relaxation. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: JVides on May 06, 2008, 12:54:50 pm Best vacation was a week in Hawaii for my honeymoon. Lived on the beach for a week. Never turned on a TV, used a phone, or read a paper while I was there.

Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: CF DolFan on May 06, 2008, 01:07:43 pm Cruise. It doesn't matter to where. Cruises rock!!
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Dave Gray on May 06, 2008, 01:35:59 pm Cruises are a lot of fun. I've been on many of them with my parents, and it's always fun, because we can stay together, and at the same time do our own thing.
Our whole family is going on a big cruise in December. I've never been on a vacation with my entire family before. We're so spaced out in age, that by the time I was born, the others were already grown up, so we were at different stages in life. I'm really excited. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: stinkfish on May 06, 2008, 01:36:33 pm I spent 10 days in and around Sydney with 2 buddies of mine. Good times.
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Sunstroke on May 06, 2008, 01:53:49 pm My favorite vacation ever was a 7 day cruise in the caribbean, where I got off the ship at each port of call and rented a scooter to cruise around each island. If I could replay that week every week, it'd smoke heaven right out of the sky. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Househead on May 06, 2008, 01:57:33 pm Party-wise: Winter Music Conference this year on South Beach
Relax-wise: Chillen and hiking in the Austrian alpes Unique-wise: (photo) Safari in Kenia Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Dave Gray on May 06, 2008, 02:03:57 pm My best vacation ever was my trip to Italy a few years ago.
I think that had more to do with my state of mind though. I had just gotten dumped, and it was sort of a cleansing type of thing. ...best week of my life. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Brian Fein on May 06, 2008, 02:04:54 pm Truthfully, watch me get smacked for saying this when I get home -
I spent a long weekend in the keys once time for a friend's wedding. Damn, that was FUN. Also, went on a cruise when I was 15 and again when I was 18, and I think those are by far the best. I think my best vacation EVER will be this coming November when SportsChick and I board the Ruby Princess for her maiden voyage. I agree - CRUISES ROCK! Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Denver_Bronco on May 06, 2008, 02:31:44 pm Vegas
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: landlocked on May 06, 2008, 02:39:21 pm Back in the late 80s,my wife and I took a week and just did nothing. One day we went down to Miami to the zoo, another day we took my motorcycle up A1A to see the space shuttle launch, and the rest we just chilled and went to the beach, grilled out,had some drinks,etc...........just the two of us........... nice.
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Phishfan on May 06, 2008, 03:09:30 pm I don't really take vacations. Typically I have used one the last several years to go back home and visit family. I really want to take one this year though.
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: DolFan619 on May 06, 2008, 03:28:28 pm I can't pick just one. So, I'll just rattle off my top five.
1. Hawaii 2. Perth, Austrailia 3. San Diego, California 4. Las Vegas, Nevada 5. Seattle, Washington Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on May 06, 2008, 04:01:48 pm My favorite vacation spot....and lord knows I am always travelling....is Alaska. I took a 7 day cruise there and had the absolute time of my life. Besides the fact that it was 119 degrees here when I left and 64 degrees there when I got there I love the outdoors and Alaska is some of the most beautiful country I have ever seen. We are planning another big trip there soon where we will fly in Anchorage and take a 3 day trek down through Denali National Park and then catch a cruise ship for the remainder of the inside passage back to Seattle. I can not wait for this trip. If anyone has an opportunity to go it comes highly recommended from this guy!!!!!
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: MaineDolFan on May 06, 2008, 06:18:48 pm ^^Count me in as a guy that is dying to go to Alaska.
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Househead on May 06, 2008, 06:52:23 pm Make that two for Alaska. Would love to do some hiking there.
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: AprFools_Phins on May 06, 2008, 10:23:59 pm Carolina Beach NC- went on vacation here every year for a week or 2 since the age of 4. I loved it so much I moved here.
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on May 06, 2008, 10:30:25 pm Well, considreing I live in the Vacation Capital of the World, I'd have to say Orlando is the best. But then again, I'm a stickler for theme parks.
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Thundergod on May 06, 2008, 11:36:49 pm Cruise. It doesn't matter to where. Cruises rock!! OH HELL YEAH!! Ever since my first one a few years back, I've been hooked. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: SCFinFan on May 06, 2008, 11:53:22 pm When I was 6, I went on a vacation to Charleston, SC. Stayed there 16 years. What can I say? It's got some sort of hold over me, and has some sort of hold over everyone who goes there.
This is what I see every day in the summer: http://farm1.static.flickr.com/96/263207831_0f4f5ca79f.jpg?v=0 This is the Sullivan's Island Lighthouse, which I can walk to: http://www.wheelmeon.org/sullivan01.jpg http://www.explorecharleston.net/Downloads/Sullivans_Island_Beach-800x600.JPG http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1074/741933111_d81f8c1bd0.jpg?v=0 This is the (draw)bridge, which I usually try to run across at sunset: http://www.tidewaterenvironmental.com/images/BenSawyer1.jpg God I love my home. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Dave Gray on May 07, 2008, 01:57:35 am I went to Alaska. It's pretty dope.
If you do go on a cruise, try to get as far away from any of that kind of "scripted stuff" when you get off the boat. There's some really cool stuff if you go look for it. There's also some really touristy shit. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Phishfan on May 07, 2008, 08:05:58 am Alaska is truly what I consider our last frontier, it even comes with old time hustlers and criminals from what I understand.
I really want to see the Grand Canyon. I want to stand at the top and look down and also get in a boat and look up. I have a feeling looking up would be more intimidating. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Househead on May 07, 2008, 08:24:28 am I would like to travel to Peru this year. My dream vacation (besides Alaska) would be New Zealand.
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Lee on May 07, 2008, 10:28:20 am I have never been on a cruise that lasts longer than a day. I do want to go on one soon.
In terms of hiking, I recently went on a 10 mile, 3 day, 2 night hike through the Ocala National Forest. Its truly amazing. If you all want to do a hiking trip, let me know. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: StL FinFan on May 07, 2008, 01:20:30 pm I would like to travel to Peru this year. My dream vacation (besides Alaska) would be New Zealand. I would love to visit Machu Picchu. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Dave Gray on May 07, 2008, 01:56:41 pm Cruises aren't the BEST experiences. Everything is planned and you follow a pretty beaten path. However, it's easy. You know where you're going to eat every night, you feel safe all the time, you can go with a variety of people of varying ages and all will be fairly entertained.
And these are all good things -- don't get me wrong, I love cruises. But, for two people, I bet you can find something a little more unique and intimate, that's specifically tailored to your tastes. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Househead on May 07, 2008, 04:51:15 pm I would love to visit Machu Picchu. That is what I would like to visit. I would like to hike the Inca trail to Machu Picchu through the Andes. It is like a 40mile, 3-4 day hike. Supposed to be gorgeous. Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: StL FinFan on May 07, 2008, 05:04:54 pm My mother-in-law is planning to go there this year.
Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Sunstroke on May 07, 2008, 05:25:22 pm When I was 6, I went on a vacation to Charleston, SC. When I was 24, and fresh out of the army, a Southern Baptist Minister in Charleston, SC openly called me the antichrist...right there in front of his congregation. I thought I was going to get lynched before I got out of there. Wait...I can still use the term "lynched" if referring to myself, a white boy, right? Title: Re: Best Vacation Spots Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on May 07, 2008, 05:45:12 pm ^ The south scares me. I have driven from Miami to Vegas twice and both times I made damn sure I was on my best and most courteous behavior.
