Title: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: raptorsfan29 on May 26, 2008, 09:17:12 pm Just to open the discussion, do you like the direction where the team is heading.
Personally, i do. We got a football guy running the show for once. We may not be great next season, but in a few years we should be a 10 win team. I know we have had this discussion before, i actually believed Saban would right the ship but that didn't end up happening. I got caught up in the hype. But i do feel comfortable with whose leading the show now. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: Defense54 on May 26, 2008, 09:36:51 pm For the most part. But for $3 Million a year I think we could have, should have found a way to keep Zack Thomas around. What he offers in leadership alone would have been worth that price to these rookies that don't know their ass from their elbow. Who are they gonna look up to? Joey Porter? Please.......
Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on May 27, 2008, 12:33:30 am ^ I agree.
But other than the Thomas thing, I really like our fresh, Wanny-less look. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on May 27, 2008, 02:53:50 am At first no. But recent events have made me happy with the way the Dolphins are heading.
When Parcells was first named to take over the team, I was quite saddened given his reputation for turning around crappy teams and making them competitive. The prospects of the Dolphins being competitive worried me, smart drafting only increased that concern. However, the Dolphins utter mismanagement of the Taylor situation as shown that nothing will stand in the way BP giant ego. I realize my earlier concerns are for naught and that the old man is losing his touch and the Dolphins will continue to have "rebuilding years" for the foreseeable future. :) >:D Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: Phishfan on May 27, 2008, 08:03:20 am The team cannot get any worse, so I would be pleased with anything.

What kind of precedent does it set when you trade away a premiere player just because that prima dona is “unhappy†with his current situation. Look at the Raiders. They practically handed Randy Moss to the Patriots for less than nothing. Honestly, can anyone name the player the Raiders got with that 4th round pick? Yeah , I'm sure you would like to see the Dolphins fold and give him away for that. It’s a joke to take anything less than a 1st rounder for a hall of famer who can contribute double digit sacks for another two or three years. Even if Taylor retires and we don’t get any draft compensation, at least the rest of the league will know that this new Dolphins management team is about BUSINESS and they will not be pushed around and/or duped like previous Phins regimes. I think you are still pretty worried.........as well you should be. Parcells actually won championships without cheating............. :D Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: Sunstroke on May 27, 2008, 11:40:19 am I love the direction the team is going...and think Miami will be back among the relevant teams in football by the 2009 season. However, the Dolphins utter mismanagement of the Taylor situation as shown that nothing will stand in the way BP giant ego. Translation...Hoodie doesn't understand the Taylor situation at all. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: simeon on May 27, 2008, 11:41:23 am Come on guys we need to believe. The Dolphins is a great franchise with a long history of winning. Sure the recent years have been tough on us, but come on the Tuna is good at what he does, we are heading in the right direction.

I am not talking about folding or giving him away for nothing. But while JT was saying all the right things to increase the value of the picks that would be offered, the Dolphin managements statements will no doubt lower his value for a trade. Quote I think you are still pretty worried.........as well you should be. Parcells actually won championships without cheating............. :D What has BP won, when his DC was not name Belichick? Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: simeon on May 27, 2008, 12:10:01 pm Hoodie I respect you but let ask you, what has Belicheck won without a camera assisting him ?
Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: Defense54 on May 27, 2008, 12:10:11 pm Quote What has BP won, when his DC was not name Belichick? What are you saying? That Bill the cheater was responsible for Parcells success? The other way around Bro. Belicheater is just another student of Parcells that took the game a bit further by being an effective cheater. Bill has built another damn fine Team with the Cowboys and will do it again here. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on May 27, 2008, 12:22:01 pm Hoodie I respect you but let ask you, what has Belicheck won without a camera assisting him ? Taping stopped week one this season, came within 3 min of a 19-0 season, without that camera. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: MaineDolFan on May 27, 2008, 12:27:49 pm ^^Close only counts in horse shoes, hand granades and Hoodie's warped opinion on the status of the Patriot's three tained Super Bowls. Not including the Super Bowl's where NE got their asses handed to them (thanks to the Bears and Packers...)
Super Bowl #1 - win = close game, win. Pats taped that year. Super Bowl #2 - win = close game, win. Pats taped that year. Super Bowl #3 - win = close game, win. Pats taped that year. Super Bowl #4-LOSS = close game, loss. Pats stopped taping. Weird. //end hijack. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: Defense54 on May 27, 2008, 12:43:20 pm Taping stopped week one this season, came within 3 min of a 19-0 season, without that camera. That's gotta hurt huh? :D :D ;D Just think...........Miami did it back in 72 WITHOUT their starting QB for most of the season. :D Pats choked and are headed into a serious downward spiral as we start the climb to greatness once again..........without cheating. Deal with it. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: Philly Fin Fan on May 27, 2008, 12:46:52 pm Thread is getting derailed. Enough chatter about the Patriots, more chatter about Are you happy with the way the team is heading?
Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: bsfins on May 27, 2008, 12:55:37 pm excuse me for being whishy washy on the issue......
I am talent wise, I think were going in the right direction...Even with the loss of Zach Thomas, and the impending loss of Jason Taylor...From everything I've read, the play calling, systems we're gonna run,it will be a very boring...Ala Dave Wannstedt style football....Which I'm not real happy about myself.... Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: MaineDolFan on May 27, 2008, 12:59:17 pm Ask me again once camp opens. As of right now we're basing our offensive line on a rookie and a bunch of un-proven players, one QB that couldn't crack the starting line up in Oakland, Arizona and Detroit, another that couldn't beat out Cleo Lemon for a starting position and a rookie that has never faced a professional rush. We have one RB coming off a nuked knee, another that nukes his lungs in between yoga lessons. One WR that runs 40 yards in a tenth of a second but is ineffective on routes and a bunch of WR's that are so unknown that they couldn't get comped on a day old free cup of coffee at 7-11. Our best defensive player won't report to camp and the other one is busy beating up offensive lineman from other teams in Vegas.
So I hope everyone will excuse me for waiting to see what this hodge-podge looks like on the field. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: simeon on May 27, 2008, 02:25:37 pm So back to topic, yes I am happy with the direction, Parcells is a proven winner. Modified by Philly Fin Fan to keep it on topic Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: StL FinFan on May 27, 2008, 02:54:28 pm This team can't get much worse, but I won't break out the confetti until after I see what we have on the field.
Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: landlocked on May 27, 2008, 03:09:56 pm I like the old school,"get your butts in the weight room"mentality that the Parcells regime has implemented so far.At least the Dolphins will be physical this year.As far as talent I say give them a couple years, remember when Parcells took the Giants to the super bowl with a no name qb(Hostetler) and not really any big time names(except L.T.),just guys that worked their butts off and played hard nosed, physical football.
Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: JVides on May 27, 2008, 03:21:51 pm Emotionally, no I am not. I don't like our best player being treated like crap for doing something for which he had received a blessing (from the prior administration). I didn't like it when JJ treated Marino like a rookie (taking the ability to audible away) and I don't like Parcells' treatment of Jason Taylor. As I've said before...the last ego we brought in here landed us a nice 62-7.
From a roster standpoint, I am better. I see large, athletic players being brought in. I see a roster being turned over into a (mostly) younger, leaner, meaner team (let's see if this is the case once the pads go on). I see the team building from the trenches out (O & D-Line) and I sing praises to God (Hallelujah!) for this, as I am a huge proponent of starting with the uglies up front. If Parcells doesn't deliver a Super Bowl, he's gonna get the same treatment JJ got, if not worse. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: Doc-phin on May 27, 2008, 05:30:19 pm I am about 90% happy with the direction. The 10% left over includes the fact that Parcells gives me the vibe that he may quit before finishing what he has started and that his style is just a little too meat and potatoes for todays championship style football.
But I will gladly take the 90% since it includes talent, winning, playoffs and a no nonsense approach. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? If Parcells doesn't deliver a Super Bowl, he's gonna get the same treatment JJ got, if not worse. Lets not forget...........Parcells is not the Coach. Soprano is. ;) I really don't know why people shit on JJ. He brought us a pair of Icons and then some. He didn't go for the Money$$ or anywhere else. He lost the passion and quit. I have no problem with that. Better then going on half assed. Except for the Wannstedt legacy JJ was a Great coach. It was completely Wayne's fault NOT JJ's for keeping Dave as long as he did. Fact is, while JJ hit on some draft picks, he missed badly on others. The defense improved and the offense tanked badly. He came in here with a big ego, stomped all over Shula's legacy, promised a Super Bowl, and didn't deliver. Nuff said. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? The last true rebuilding year was 1996 when JJ became head coach and he had the right ideas. Bring a fast defense and start infusing young talent. I believe that Johnson got burned out because of several reasons: A. Free agency and having to baby some players (Cecil Collins,Tony Martin) B. Wanting to bench Dan Marino but couldn't because of Uncle Wayne and the fans. Johnson really built the defense and I have to give him props for that. Someone mentioned that Dan Marino had the audible taken away from him and from what I've heard, he didn't. Johnson gave him a "check with me system" before you change the play. Marino, of course didn't like that. This new regime can't mess anything up. They were one and 1-15 last year Check with me around the 8th game and I'll give you my report. Post by: AprFools_Phins on May 29, 2008, 10:23:44 pm are you going to explain why? Well as much as I can like some of what was done- I think that a lot of what's happened is bs. Draft day- ok. Not fantastic as of yet- but not bad. But nothing has blown me away in the aquisition of people that can tip the scale in favor of me being happy. I agree with JVides. I am not ok with our best player being treated like shit. This whole ordeal to me is bigger than just Jason. It sets a standard of how this organization is going to be run- and it is completely wrong for things to have gone down the way they have. If they didn't want Jason- fine trade him. Especially if you are going to make statements insinuating he doesn't want to be on the team. Actually try to trade him. Don't overprice him so you know no one will take him- just for the appearance of acting like you are trying- no one is buying it. Don't ignore the fact that he is still a part of your team- even if he is doing something you don't approve of (even if he agreed to do it before you were in charge). Treat him with the respect he deserves after giving the organization you are now a part of everything for the last what 12 years. And after all this- don't paint him as the bad guy- while it's you being the shit head. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? I still shutter at the mention of the name.........Yatil green. :P :-\ But he was trying hard to get Dan some weapons. Dave Wannastedt got us to the Playoffs first year out with the Team that JJ built. Had JJ stuck around maybe 1-2 more seasons he would have gotten us and Dan to the big dance. I have no doubts. Title: Re: Are you happy with the way the team is heading? Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on May 30, 2008, 01:30:42 am ^ I agree. Wanny was the beginning of the end. The Dolphins' Larry Coker.
Just wait Cowboys fans, you'll soon suffer the same fate. |
