Title: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: AprFools_Phins on May 29, 2008, 12:47:29 am The Pens won tonight's game against the Red Wings- so at least if we lose the series it won't be a shut-out so we can't be too embarrassed. I was thinking though, if we would happen to win the next 3- the last game at Mellon Arena would be the Pens winning the Stanley Cup...how awesome would that be? Oh and I just found out about the whole octopus thing- eww that is just weird.
Title: Re: Pens Post by: TonyB0D on May 29, 2008, 02:09:32 am no the last game is in detroit as they have the home ice advantage for this series. i like the pens heart, but they're just not going to get it done.
Title: Re: Pens Post by: AprFools_Phins on May 29, 2008, 03:08:29 am Game 7 is in Detroit- if it is needed. That's why I said IF the Pens win the next 3- then only 6 games are needed. And game 6 is in Pittsburgh. I know not likely- but a girl can hope.
Title: Re: Pens Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on May 29, 2008, 09:16:27 am The Pens of today remind me of the 1983 Edmonton Oilers.... a cast of talented players headed up by a young rising superstar (Wayne Gretzky/Sidney Crosby).
Granted, that 1983 Edmonton team lost to the NY Islanders in the Stanley Cup Finals that year...... but then went on to win five of the next seven Stanley Cups. Title: Re: Pens Post by: Philly Fin Fan on May 29, 2008, 09:36:58 am Todays Pens are more like the Pens of the early 90's. Two young superstars, one french Canadian- Mario Lemieux (Sidney Crosby), the other a speedy eastern European Jaromir Jagr (Evgeni Malkin is Russian, but still you get the point).
And Apr Fools- you just now found out about the octopus? I guess you aren't a big hockey fan. They only talk about that EVERY year the Red Wings are even in the playoffs! BTW- The Red Wings are winning the series. Title: Re: Pens Post by: bsfins on May 29, 2008, 11:17:23 am !@#!~%% F'n !!$%^&# Red Wings.....Go Pens.....
Title: Re: Pens Post by: Brian Fein on May 29, 2008, 11:23:27 am Be happy if they can pull off Game 4 and even up the series. I am just glad it won't be a sweep. Nothing better than Stanley Cup game 7.
BTW - the Flyers suck Title: Re: Pens Post by: TonyB0D on May 29, 2008, 01:27:40 pm no brian, rangers suck, flyers swallow!
Title: Re: Pens Post by: Phishfan on May 29, 2008, 01:52:11 pm The best game of the series so far and I missed it because of my pool league. :(
Title: Re: Pens Post by: Brian Fein on May 29, 2008, 01:52:16 pm no brian, rangers suck, flyers swallow! They only talk about that EVERY year the Red Wings are even in the playoffs! Yeah but they can't throw it anymore. Panthers fans in 1996 throwing rats on the ice caused the NHL to ban that. Title: Re: Pens Post by: AprFools_Phins on May 29, 2008, 10:05:14 pm And Apr Fools- you just now found out about the octopus? I guess you aren't a big hockey fan. They only talk about that EVERY year the Red Wings are even in the playoffs! Umm no not a big hockey fan. I've been to see the Pens play and that's about it- they are the only team I follow at all. And it's disgusting that they have ever been allowed to do that. Title: Re: Pens Post by: StL FinFan on May 29, 2008, 10:06:27 pm Welcome to Red Wings Haters! ;D
Title: Re: Pens Post by: AprFools_Phins on May 29, 2008, 10:08:53 pm BTW- The Red Wings are winning the series. I hope not- I guess we'll see- but thanks for the insight Mr Cleo Title: Re: Pens Post by: AprFools_Phins on May 31, 2008, 11:59:56 pm Well there goes my scenario! I doubt the Pens have much of a chance winning Monday in Detroit- it'll probably be the end
Title: Re: Pens Post by: landlocked on June 01, 2008, 02:47:41 pm The Pens of today remind me of the 1983 Edmonton Oilers.... a cast of talented players headed up by a young rising superstar (Wayne Gretzky/Sidney Crosby). I think you are right on,Tommy.I was thinking the exact same thing while watching last night's game.I love the Penguins but they are just a bit too young this year. They will be awesome for the next few years.Granted, that 1983 Edmonton team lost to the NY Islanders in the Stanley Cup Finals that year...... but then went on to win five of the next seven Stanley Cups. Title: Re: Pens Post by: landlocked on June 03, 2008, 01:47:37 am WOW! The penguins win 4-3 in TRIPLE OVERTIME tonight! One has to wonder if it will wear on the "older" legs of the Red Wings players the rest of the series.Game 6 in Pittsburgh wednesday night.....
Title: Re: Pens Post by: Phishfan on June 03, 2008, 08:15:29 am That was a great game. Sykora even called he would score the game winner. I hope game 6 is close to being as good.
Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: AprFools_Phins on June 03, 2008, 06:47:34 pm I think the Pens actually have a better chance winning in Pittsburgh - I couldn't believe the game last night- I hope Wed.'s game isn't as nerve-racking (--Spelling of that??) last night's game was almost as bad as watching a Dolphins game! (ok not really almost...for like 1/4)
Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: Brian Fein on June 04, 2008, 01:20:24 am I'm so pissed I missed the end of that game. I watched the first two periods then flipped it off. I am SO PISSED!
Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: Phishfan on June 04, 2008, 08:59:27 am You should be Brian. The third period was some of the best hockey I have seen this season and Fluery absolutely stood on his head in OT to enable the Pens to win.
Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: AprFools_Phins on June 04, 2008, 10:49:02 pm Dammit...O well
Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: Brian Fein on June 05, 2008, 08:16:47 am Great finish, they fought till the end. The 6 on 4 power play inside 2 minutes sure was exciting.
Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: MaineDolFan on June 05, 2008, 09:58:05 am Pittsburgh fans = completely trashy. Your team lost, fair and square. To boo Detroit while hoisting the Stanley Cup was ridiculous. Show some class, jerk offs.

To boo Detroit while hoisting the Stanley Cup was ridiculous. Show some class, jerk offs. Its not as bad as booing santa claus or children. Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: MaineDolFan on June 05, 2008, 10:21:46 am The whole Santa thing in Philly...people need to really know the deal on that before they judge. Santa was cheered intially when introduced and then the crowd saw that he was drunk and wearing a dirty outfit. That's when they turned on him.
Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: Brian Fein on June 05, 2008, 11:04:40 am Were they booing Detroit, or the commissioner?
Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: Phishfan on June 05, 2008, 03:08:46 pm I think they were booing the commisssioner. A lot of Pittsburgh fans were sticking around to see the cup raising and I thought the booing stopped almost immediately after the commis walked off.
Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: Brian Fein on June 05, 2008, 03:17:40 pm I think they were booing the commissioner. A lot of Pittsburgh fans were sticking around to see the cup raising and I thought the booing stopped almost immediately after the commis walked off. That's what I figured. The boo's didn't start until his fat mouth got on the mic, even when he was presenting the Con Smythe Trophy.Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: AprFools_Phins on June 05, 2008, 11:32:13 pm Pittsburgh fans = completely trashy. Your team lost, fair and square. To boo Detroit while hoisting the Stanley Cup was ridiculous. Show some class, jerk offs. Don't agree. Are you telling me that if by chance you are in Miami for a game bw New England and us- they win- do you boo? I would...then again maybe I am just a trashy Pittsburgher Title: Re: Penguins - Red Wings / Stanley Cup Post by: StL FinFan on June 06, 2008, 12:00:08 am Since all of you Red Sox fans can attest to this: They were not booed when they won the WS here.
