Post by: Denver_Bronco on June 06, 2008, 07:28:06 am
Manny punches at Fat head in the dugout.

Your thoughts, Maine.....please.

Quite a classy display yesterday, yet again.

I think you're a moron.  You've got questions, we've got answers.

Question of my own - do you know baseball at all?

I have a questions Maine - What on earth happened with Manny/Youk to have that little display happen? Obviously something was said/done (unless of course this is just another Manny being Manny episode)

Manny was the last guy on the field in the scrum.  Youk was one of the first.  I think Youk lipped off to Manny about not being out there which pissed Manny off (he was in the club house when it happened and ran balls to the wall to get outside).

Heat of the moment.  Trust me - these guys don't go a full season without getting into stuff in the club house. 999,999,999 out of 1,000,000,000 times the media, nor anyone else, hears about it.  And when they do they generally keep it quiet.  Hence the comment to Denver.  If he knew anything about baseball he would know that one of the worst locker rooms in the game right now, unity wise, is his beloved Yankees.

You know - the same Yankees that had a bench clearing brawl with Tampa Bay in spring training.  Yet when it happens in a game that counts he's all over it.  Nice short term memory there.

I figured there was a reason but I didn't get the game live, only SC highlights so I wasn't sure what caused it.

My father and I were talking about this today, I guessed one was upset at the other guy because of the lack wanting to help a team mate out. I don't think it's a big deal, it's all part of a bunch of guys forming a team. Maine do you have any update on the injury to Ellsbury ?

I just read that Ellsbury was taken for x-rays and they were negative, they are saying its a sprain and diagnoised day to day.

Maine, the Yankees have great team unity. They all have the same interests: Playing well enough so they can get a playoff check, then counting their millions on a golf course. And don't you forget it buddy!

http://sports.aol.com/fanhouse/2008/06/06/manny-took-umbrage-to-youks-anger/

There's no doubt that the Red Sox were a little riled up last night. After all, nothing gets the adrenaline going like a man-hug festival with the opposing team, complete with cheap shots. So with all the players on edge all night after the scrum between Boston and Tampa Bay, it's not very surprising that Manny Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis would get mad at each other in the dugout.

The question everybody wanted an answer to was a simple one: why? Why were two teammates fighting while their team was up six runs? Well, it wasn't due to Manny's delayed arrival at the fight earlier as Watson theorized, no, according to a source within the team it had to do with the Greek God of Walks temper after bad at bats.

"It all happened because Manny complained about Youkilis' habit of throwing bats, helmets and other objects in the dugout when he has a bad at-bat, something that has become a constant practice," the source said.

"Other players have told Youkilis in the past about the situation, which makes him look selfish and that he is more worried about each at-bat than about the team. If Boston is winning easily, there's no reason to throw objects all over the dugout because of a bad at-bat.

"There was a meeting where the team let Youkilis know that many of his teammates were tired of his explosive reactions for each bad plate appearance. It became very bothersome ... more so when the team is winning and it's in first place. There's not much room for individualistic attitudes."

So, in other words, Manny felt that the only way to help Youk keep his anger under control was by trying to punch him as hard as possible. You see, Manny is smarter than you or I. He knew that if he helped Kevin work out all his aggression in a fight, he wouldn't be so angry with his bats or helmet anymore.

He's a peacemaker.

I can understand why Youk's teammates wouldn't be too pleased with his antics after an at bat, I mean, your team is in first place, and they were up six runs when all this went down. It's just a strikeout, Kevin. They're going to happen, even to Greek Gods.-AOL Fanhouse

I can see both sides. I can see his teammates maybe thinking he is out for himself, but having seen competitive guys like Paul O'Neill and Kevin Garnett before, they don't really celebrate when they did something good while their team is down by a ton and has no chance of winning. Others would know more than me, but I don't see Youkilis pumping his fist after he hits a HR in the 9th while down 12-3.

They were saying on ESPN it had something to do with Youk's bad at bat, and Manny making a comment to him in the dugout about it.

With Chekovi Ellsbury and Big Papi among the players on the most fantasy rosters for me this season, seeing both of them go down this past week wasn't amusing at all. I think Boston should hire the best wrist strengthening expert available, so my fantasy teams don't suffer any further setbacks. ;)

I hope he gets back soon too. The brawl with Coco cost the redsoxs big time.
We lost him for 7 games and Chekovi is down. I am asumming Manny will be moved back to left field, I am not 100% sure how centerfield will be handled.
