Dolphins add Steel Curtain builder Dick Haley to staff

By Tim Graham | Tuesday, June 10, 2008, 03:20 PM

The Dolphins today announced Dick Haley, who helped piece together the Steelers dynasty of the 1970s, has joined the front office as a player personnel analyst. Also joining the scouting department are personnel coordinator Chris Shea, regional scout Mike Murphy and national scout Joe Schoen.

Haley was the Steelers’ director of player personnel from 1971 to 1991. He and top scout Bill Nunn were behind one of the most famous draft classes in NFL history, when the Steelers landed four future Hall of Famers in the first five rounds: receivers Lynn Swann and John Stallworth, center Mike Webster and middle linebacker Jack Lambert. They also signed safety Donnie Shell as an undrafted rookie that year.

The NFL Network recently named that draft class the finest. No other team class has produced more than two Hall of Famers.

Haley was in the Jets’ front office from 1992 to 2007, working with Bill Parcells for a chunk of that. Haley will handle special research projects for Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland.

Shea most recently worked with the NFL Management Council as coordinator of labor operations, focusing on player litigation. He has been a scouting consultant for the Cowboys and was a pro personnel assistant for the Jets.

Murphy was with the Cowboys the past three seasons. Schoen spent the past seven seasons with the Panthers.
