Title: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: bsfins on June 14, 2008, 11:44:29 pm Ok,I've been reading some of the rumors...I know the Cubs are looking at a Starting pitcher, and maybe a Left handed outfielder (preferably Center fielder) Depending on how Edmonds plays in the next few weeks...He's played better since joining the Cubs....
I've heard rumors that Cleveland could Move C.C. Sabathia...The Yankees being the most vocal rumor.... Erik Bedard of the Mariners could possibly be moved, but highly unlikely because of what they gave up to get him..... I can't see either of these guy's getting moved, but I'm nobody.... Anyone else heard any,Maine have you heard any names being mentioned? Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: MaineDolFan on June 15, 2008, 10:22:00 am No big names yet, just rumblings on some smaller trades that could make decent impacts. I'll go through some of my notes and start plunking it down here.
(by the way, I don't see CC going anywhere right now) Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: Sunstroke on June 15, 2008, 11:42:23 am I won't start another thread just for this, but I am pretty pumped to see the Padres call up Chase Headley from Portland on Friday. He'd been ripping the hell out of the ball at AAA, and the Padres could definitely use a little more pop in their lineup. Besides, with a name like "Chase," he has to be an MVP candidate...right? ;) Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: EDGECRUSHER on June 16, 2008, 01:14:05 am I hope the Yankees don't trade for Sabathia. Not just because he is a big guy and would require a long contract extension, but because Mark Shapiro is a very good GM and I am afraid it would take some serious talent to acquire him.
Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: landlocked on June 16, 2008, 02:35:57 am ESPN ran on its ticker that Ken Griffey Jr. has hinted to the Reds front office that he would opt out of his "no trade"option on his contract to be traded to the Rays.Griffey's agent was quoted as saying there was no truth to the rumor, but since Jr. lives in Orlando it would seem to make perfect sense. As a Reds fan I hope it doesn't happen.

(by the way, I don't see CC going anywhere right now) If the Indians continue in their funk, I can see CC being traded, but they'll be raiding someone's farm system in return. I think that the Yankees or Sox would be NUTS not to trade for CC given the chance. This is why you build a farm system in the first place. CC is young, proven and a monster. The only guy off the table, in my opinion, for the Sox would be Ellsbury. You want Masterson? Buchholz? Hansen? Delcarmen? Crisp? Moss? Bowden? Pick three, any three. I'm in. Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: MaineDolFan on June 16, 2008, 09:58:04 am Alright guys, here are some of the players I am hearing are available for the right price. I don't have team specific deals to report. Those are usually way out of whack anyway, I have much better luck talking about players that I am confident will move clubs before the deadline.
Carlos Lee and Roy Oswalt from Houston Randy Winn from the Giants Kei Igawa from the Yankees A.J. Burnett from the Jays Damaso Marte, Jason Bay and Xavier Nady from the Pirates Prince Fielder from the Brewers (yep, you're reading this right) Mark Ellis and Eric Chavez, if he stays healthy, from the A's Orlando Hudson from the Dbacks Coco Crisp from the Red Sox Gil Meche from the Royals Brian Fuentes from the Rockies Brett Myers from the Phillies (not sure who would want him) This list will grow and shrink, I'll let you know if I hear anything specific. Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: SportsChick on June 16, 2008, 10:44:18 am [sarcasm] Wow, I'm shocked Coco is available! WOW! [/sarcasm]
Ellsbury has proved himself I think (nice to have speed on the bases huh? by how much is he going to demolish the rookie steals record?) Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: MaineDolFan on June 16, 2008, 10:48:28 am I think dealing Crisp would be a mistake. He already has more AB's than half of MLB's starting 'everyday' players. With injuries and rotations on this team, playing time isn't an issue.
Boston wants middle relief in return. I don't think the value will be there. Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: Sunstroke on June 16, 2008, 11:01:14 am I'd take Carlos Lee in our OF with no questions asked...same with Crisp.
Ellsbury has proved himself I think (nice to have speed on the bases huh? by how much is he going to demolish the rookie steals record?) I-heart-Jacoby... Ellsbury is going to end the season with 72 swipes, eclipsing Kenny Lofton's major league rookie mark by 6. He should pass Tommy Harper's Red Sox record of 53 sometime in early august. Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: bsfins on June 16, 2008, 12:01:12 pm Isn't Greg Maddux also on that list?...I thought there were rumors Greg would waive his no trade clause,to go to a contender (I guess the Reds were intrested, but note the conteder part)
According to the Chicago sun times,(their slant was ) Burnett almost asked to be traded the Cubs after beating us Friday night.... I'm not liking the rumors of Gil Meche to the Cubs.... Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: SportsChick on June 16, 2008, 01:21:08 pm Stroke - the Red Sox season record is 54 I think. Jacoby is at 33 already
Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: Sunstroke on June 16, 2008, 01:33:16 pm Stroke - the Red Sox season record is 54 I think. Jacoby is at 33 already Yep, it is 54...I must've misheard the Sox touts yesterday. I made a trade at the beginning of the season in a relatively important ($25 entry) fantasy league. I had drafted AZ OF Chris Young in the 8th round, and was about ready to pounce on Jacoby in rd 11 when the guy before me snagged him. I was unamused by his snaggage, so I asked him "what do you want for Jacoby?" and he looked at my roster and said "I'll take Chris Young for him." I told him that was three draft rounds of difference there...could he sweeten his side of the deal by adding his 13th rd pick? He agreed, and I dealt Chris Young for Jacoby Ellsbury and the Giants closer Brian Wilson. Zero buyer's remorse on that particular trade... Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: EDGECRUSHER on June 16, 2008, 06:56:36 pm I forgot Kei Igawa existed until you mentioned him. Latroy Hawkins and Kyle Farnsworth are also on the block, as the Yankees are dying to try out their "Big 4" of relief pitching in Melancon, Robertson, McCutchen and Cox. Of course, trading for shitty relievers when they are just as likely to be released would be pretty stupid.
Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: MaineDolFan on June 17, 2008, 08:52:44 am Of course, trading for shitty relievers when they are just as likely to be released would be pretty stupid. Not always. If you are interested in that player it at least takes the bidding portion out of it. You just deal with the trading team. Usually those players are dealt for journeymen AAA players. Someone to fill a void. Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: raptorsfan29 on June 25, 2008, 06:37:00 pm should have asked this before, but Maine, how much trade value does a person like A.J Burnett, a guy who has great stuff, but hasn't entirely put it together doesn't seem like he would have good value, whats the best the jays can't expect to get for A,J, if they decide to trade him.
Title: Re: Baseball mid season trade rumors? Post by: MaineDolFan on June 26, 2008, 11:01:00 am AJ has decent trade value. His contract is reasonable and he has potential #1 stuff. The one thing that everyone will look at is 'how will this guy affect the clubhouse if things go bad?" He has a track record of being a dick. I think everyone remembers that AJ and I almost got into a fight when he was here in Portland. He's just a prick, overall. Problem is - he's a prick that throws great pitches.
