Right now, I mean.

I can't think of a team that's had this level of success all at once.

The Red Sox, 2 world championships.
The Patriots, 3 world championships.
The Celtics, 1 world championship.

And all three could very well win again this year.

...all in the same time frame of a few years.

Miami had a pretty good run, in terms of having teams that were good, but not championship calibur.  The Panthers went to the finals, the Heat were good, the Dolphins were good, and the Marlins were good all within a few years of each other.  But damn, Boston is tough to beat.

Recently? Yes, if you go strictly by major championships.  Ever? No

Look at Florida earlier in the decade...Marlins winning the World Series, Bucs winning the Superbowl, Heat winning the championship, Lightning winning the Stanley Cup, FSU and UF winning championships.

I know it isn't a city, but that aint too shabby either.

I'm not even saying recently.  I'm saying "of all time".

...for one city to have so much success all at once like that.

Ever? Not even close. Right now? I would say so. Although let's not forget, the Pats haven't won it in 3 years and are a very old team. No guarantee they even make the Super Bowl this year, let alone win it.

That, and their cheating puts an asterisk on their success. I only recognize the Red Sox and Celtics' championships as legit.

I don't feel like looking it up, but I am sure if you looked up all major sports championships of all time, Boston would not be on the top of that list.  It would probably be New York, just given the sheer number of WS that the Yankees have won.

Not even close?  Name a city and year with better success?

And to say you don't recognize the Pats success...what the hell is that?  The NFL recognizes it -- I think that's kinda what matters.  Besides, they went to the Super Bowl THIS YEAR, and were undefeated.  And then they won 3 championships a few years prior.

I'm not just saying we should add up championships.  I'm saying for one moment in time, who's ever been better?

In one post you said recently, in another you said of all time?  Which is it?  ???

I'm saying that this RECENT run is the best of all time.

Not that Boston achievements of all time are the best.  ...but this current run, I don't think can be topped.

I totally agree. It's pretty unusual to see all this sports success in a city all at once (so to speak). **punks**  ;D

But I do remember, if it counts, that L.A. (or California) had a tiny run, I just don't think any one notices/cares since there weren't many titles won;

Lakers: '99-'01 (3)

Angels: '02 (1)

Raiders: '03 Super Bowl appearance

Ducks: '02 S. Cup appearance
          '06 (1)

Lakers: '08 NBA finals appearance

I don't count almost championships. Even if they are close year in and year out.

I think Oakland in the 70's with the A's and Raiders had similar success with just 2 sports teams. Right now, IMO, it's just the Red Sox and Celtics. 3 years is too long to carry on a "dynasty". 2004 and 2007 is the cutoff.

Is that from the official "Sports Dynasties for Dummies" book, or is that an arbitrary figure that you think should be an official kind of thing?

I gotta agree with Dave.As much as I am tired of Boston's act, they are THE sports town right now.As far as die hard fans,I think Pittsburgh and even Chicago have great fans that stick it out with their teams win or lose.I have met people from Buffalo that are very dedicated to their Bills and Sabres,also.

No better place to live!  Title Town!!

Title Town is Green Bay.  Come up with a new nickname for yourselves.

If you're counting all sports-

#1 - NY has 51
#2 - Toronto has 37
#3 - Montreal has 33
#4 - Boston has 32
#5 - Chicago has 23

The two Canadian cities is a little skewed because of Toronto's 37 champions - a bunch of them are in professional hockey leagues that don't exist anymore.  But between the Leafs and the CFL team's, they have a lot of titles.  They even have three World Series titles.

If you're going on "major sports" only (NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL) it's New York, Boston, Montreal, Toronto.  Over half of NY's titles come in MLB...and it's been a little while for them. ;D

Or the team that has more championships than the Celtics, Sox, and Pats combined.

Don't want to burst your bubble here but if you are arguing best sports city of all time you must ellimenate the Patriots, they do not play in Boston.

The Dolphins don't play in Miami either.  They're still Miami.

The statement was Boston is the greatest sportstown, it might be so.
But still the facts remain that the Patriots are NOT part of Boston and most be removed from the equation.

That is because the Dolphins did play in Miami only to move to Fort Launderdale when Joe Robbie stadium was built. The Boston Patriots changed their names after they moved out of Boston when they played at Fenway Park, and now they reside near Rhode Isle in a little town called Foxboro. I do not consider the Dolphins as part of Miami anymore then I believe the Giants to be part of New york.

Aren't we really talking about regions here and not actual cities?  What team plays in the actual city that they represent?  The Pistons don't, the Giants and Jets don't, there are more.

That is really a tick-tacking stance to take.

At least Foxboro is still part of Massachusetts, unlike the NY Giants who play in a totally different STATE

for the record .. dolphin stadium isn't in broward county .. it's in miami-dade county

I assume we're all able to recognize the major metropolitan areas that are serviced with certain teams.

Miami = Marlins, Dolphins, Heat, Panthers
Boston = Pats, Celtics, Bruins, Sox

Although, I think you have to split up New York, maybe, since they have multiple teams that are for different parts of the city.

Giants, Rangers, Yankees, Knicks on one side
and
Mets, Nets, Jets, Islanders on the other.

All of our sports venues are downtown.  So are Cincinnati's.  Kansas City's are right outside of downtown.
