Title: How much does it cost you to fill up?
Post by: Guru-In-Vegas on July 08, 2008, 06:54:31 pm
How much does it cost for your vehicle to hit the "F" on your fuel gauge?

How long does it last?

For those of you (I used to be one) that says a month when you drive a big ass truck we all know why.  So how far does it take you?

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It costs me about 60 bucks to fill up and lasts me about 2 weeks and I've been driving a lot lately but its mostly highway.  I'd say a tank lasts about 400 miles.  But one thing is for sure, I have drastically changed my driving habits as a result.  I drive the speed limit with the windows up and no AC.  You know you're penny pinching when you drive in 111 degree heat with no AC on!!!  :D  My tints keep the sun out though (illegal).

I'm so happy I even get that kind of mileage cost considering I used to have a Chevy Avalanche.  That bitch would cost double what I pay now and last me less.  I couldn't have gotten rid of that shit at a better time.

It costs me about $50.00 to fill up now. That lasts me about 3 - 4 weeks. But, my office is 1 mile from my house. Should be less money since I am going to start biking in to work more often.

I fill up around $50 a month for my 2000 GMC...I wasn't stupid enough to buy a big 4 wheel drive V8...I don't need it anymore....I got a nice V6...I drive like a little old lady (which helps Gas milage)...so I get great gass mileage...just over 20 miles to the gallon...

LOL....Clearly I am the one moron around here.

I drive 60 miles a day just back and forth to work. I usually take Ms. AZ's SUV (we are not smart people) to run around after work because it gets incredibly good gas mileage for a V8. I do play softball quite a bit and end up taking my gas hog so the Ms. has her vehicle if needed. A fill up cost me between $100.00 and $115.00 depending on which price they pull out of their ass for the station that day. It will last me around 400-450 miles depending on how much time I actually sit in traffic rather than driving, but I fill up at least once a week sometimes more. I refuse to not use my AC in 120 degree heat....window tint is ok but fuck that!!!!!

My gas bill alone has topped $500.00 a month on more than one occasion. Ms. AZ's is not anywhere near there.

Gas tank:

40 gallons + the line holds 1.

Price of 87 in The People's Republic of Hillary, Chuck and Bloomberg:
$4.15

Total cost: approx $166

Total mileage: 700.  (six hundred if I'm not on the highway that much, 850 if I stay on the highway)

Total time it takes me to drive 700 miles: 4-6 weeks.

Sorry AZ...I didn't mean for it call anyone out...All my Truck guys Laughed when I went with the Little Six cylinder short bed....Gave me hell about it's not a real truck...They can't afford to drive their real trucks...with their big beefy V8's...

Turn on your AC, Guru. Just make sure to put it on recirculate once the air is cold. It really doesn't use up gas in newer cars like it used to back in the day. Believe it or not, driving with your windows open actually causes your car to use more gas, because you reduce the aerodynamics of your car.

Another of the biggest things you can do to make sure you get the most out of your car is make sure the tires are properly inflated. Too little or too much air in your tires, and you will use up more gas.

$60, about a week and a half.

Driving habits have changed. (sigh)

Pushing $80 per tank, but I get ~450 miles out of it for about 2 1/2 weeks.  I've changed my driving habits pretty drastically to save on gas - I drive like a grandma now and it hurts me inside.

I feel your pain, fellas.  I'm SUPER mindful in regards to fuel economy in the way I drive.  I try hard to not go over 2,000 rpm's...ever.  25 year old grandma right here and I hate it.  I have a heavy ass foot but not a matching wallet.

Philly, I don't roll my windows down!  So my car in this Vegas heat is an oven on wheels.  I knew that rolling the windows down brings down mpg's but I didn't know about recirculating air.  I'll try it out tomorrow.

No worries B....I never took it that way. I was just meaning because I was reading what other people were posting and I was laughing at what a complete moron I am for refusing to get rid of my truck or downsize. Honestly I get use out of my truck I go off road a lot. I use it in the snow in the winter when I head up to our cabin in Northern AZ. I use it to hunt, fish, take camping....whatever being as I love the outdoors. I really don't see myself ever not having a 4x4 no matter the cost of gas. Being as what I am paying for gas each month I have considered just buying another vehicle. Just some shitty 4 banger to go back and forth to work. I mean I clearly spend more a month in gas than most people do for an economical car payment.

Get a bike. I get 50mpg on my bike and it is not a small bike.

I have a 12 gallon tank - light came on this morning, put in just about 10 gallons at $4.06/gallon - $40.02 total. That'll last me 8-10 days depending on what we do over a weekend. I get about 24 MPG city and close to 30 highway, but my commute is all city driving

I work from home so I don't have to fill up much. If I put in $30 it should last me a month.

We have three vehicles, all Honda:  Civic, CRV and my VFR.

The Civic goes about 3-4 weeks on a tank of gas and it's about $50 right now to fill.

The CRV goes 2-3 weeks on a tank of gas and it's the same amount.  Both have 13 gallon tanks.

The VFR is about $20 to fill and I fill that maybe once a month.

We're spending $110-$120 a month on gas.

Not in this state. People are killed daily on our freeways out here on bikes. Too many people driving too fast, texting, and chatting on their cell phones not paying attention to what they are doing we have some real winners out here. I am sure it is like that in a lot of places but it is really bad out here. I would love to have a bike but I just do not trust our roads and I travel the freeways too much for work. I have two friends that have given up on riding their bikes on the freeways out here.

I am in Wa and these people are utterly stupid on the freeways. They cannot even handle the ability to merge without causing a major backup at every onramp during non peak times.

^^^ I feel ya....All of our roads are as straight as an arrow. They run east and west or north and south....no curves, hard turns nothing.....just fucking straight. Yet at least 3 times a week just on my route some moron has rolled their damn vehicle!!!! How in the hell do you even manage that?    ???

my ford edge - about 80 in NJ, but up here in CT it's 100 easy

the bike - 15 in jerZ, 20 in CT - fast enough to dust anything on the road while still cracking 50 MPG's :D
