Dolphins' Parcells will give his coaches room

In an HBO profile that will be broadcast Tuesday, Bill Parcells makes clear that he will not offer input to Dolphins coach Tony Sparano during games and reiterated he won't coach again.

Asked by Andrea Kremer if he will call down during games, Parcells said ''no.'' How about checking in at halftime? ''No, absolutely not,'' he said during a recent interview that airs on Real Sports at 10 p.m. Tuesday. ``You'll never have to worry about that. That will be one thing anybody who knows me knows you don't have to worry about.''

But in the piece, Dolphins offensive coordinator Dan Henning indicated Parcells, the Dolphins' executive vice president/football operations, offers occasional coaching tips during practices.

''Don't ever think he's going to stop coaching,'' Henning said. ``You know he comes down to the field and when he sees something once in a while, he'll walk over to a player, pull them aside, and talk to them about how to catch a punt, or how to hold his hands if he's a receiver or how to drop his weight and get his body in position if he's playing linebacker. He talks to players all the time.''

When asked what game day will be like, Parcells said, ``Probably more fan-like, just rooting for your team. Hope you're doing well and knowing there's nothing I can do.''

How much of a challenge will that be? ''Hey, listen, this winter was plenty of a challenge -- getting a GM in there, getting a coach, getting a coaching staff together,'' he said.

But isn't coaching the most fun for him, Kremer asked. ''Right, once the game starts it is,'' he said. ``But I can't. . . . I don't do that now.''

Asked if he will watch games from the owner's box, Parcells said, ``No, probably not. I don't even know that I'll travel on the road. I'm not sure. I like to watch games alone. I see a lot more when I'm alone.''

Of his schedule this season, Parcells said, ``Early in the week, I'm going to be in the office because that's when they need me the most. That's when . . . you reshape your roster for the week. So I'll be there. I'm not going to be taking days off. But, I mean, I may take an hour or two here and there.''

Parcells, 66, told Kremer, ``You're trying to get me to tell you that there's a possibility I'm going to go back to coach when I know there's not.''
