This is pure speculation on my part... I've not heard or read anywhere that the Phins might be interested in him, should he be cut from the Chargers later today as is expected.

The Dolphins have plenty of cap space... PLENTY of cap space... to the point that there's simply no way we're going to use even half of it without a major FA signing or two. So there's no "mortgaging the future" here.

So, should we take a serious look at Parker? He missed all of last year with a toe injury, but is reportedly 100%. He has a reputation as a "nice guy" and "hard worker". Fun fact: The Chargers got Chris Chambers as Parker's replacement when he went on IR last season.

Personally, I think he'd be a good fit for the Phins. We could really use some more competition at receiver. I'm not really sold on ANY of our receivers (yes, I hope Ginn will become a true #1 and I think he has at least a decent shot of it, but it's certainly far from a sure thing).

Right now, we're looking at Ginn #1 and Wilford #2... and probably Hagan at the #3. That's not a strong lineup and I think a healthy Parker might be

One thing about Parker, he has really great hands and runs good routes. In "catch percentage", Parker is among the elite players in the league. His 69% is phenomenal. In comparison, Chris Chambers kept up his usual 50%-ish figure, despite switching from the miserable Dolphins to the Chargers. And he's been consistent. In 2005 he caught 71% of passes thrown his way, in 2004 is was 66%.

I honestly think he's a better receiver than Wilford, IF he can stay healthy.

Btw, if Parker is cut, the Dolphins get first dibbs on him (providing we are willing to assume his existing contract).

I wouldn't have a problem with the pick-up, unless there is someone else that is expected to be available that might be better.

I have seen Parker play and he showed some good skills for a low profile player.  He would definately have to pass a physical and those toe injuries have shown to be hard to get over.

Unlike you, I think Wilford is better.  I am not saying you think Wilford is a bad player, but I think he is under-rated by many people.  The major problem Wilford will face is double coverage without any high profile threats lining up with him but I think the same thing would happen with Parker.
