DAVIE - Two Dolphins linebackers potentially suffered serious leg injuries in Saturday night's 17-6 exhibition loss to Tampa Bay.

Charlie Anderson, one of the projected starting outside linebackers, strained his left hamstring dropping back into pass coverage. Coach Tony Sparano said the four-year veteran will at least be held out of today's practice.

Sparano added Anderson's status is "day-to-day."

"We'll be really smart with it," Sparano said.

Quentin Moses will likely fill Anderson's spot as a starter opposite Joey Porter until his rehabilitation is completed. Junior Glymph and Rob Ninkovich will also see their workload increase.

Inside linebacker Kelvin Smith, a former Syracuse standout who was selected in the seventh round last season, suffered what Sparano described as a "pretty serious knee injury," covering a punt in the fourth quarter.

"We're still waiting for a little bit more information, but it's not good," Sparano said.

If Smith tore a knee ligament it's likely he'll be put on the Dolphins injured reserve. Smith, who spent most of last season on the Dolphins practice squad, could also receive an injury settlement and be waived, opening up a roster spot for another player on the team's 80-man training camp roster.

Sparano also clarified why Porter was held out of Saturday's game. The nine-year veteran strained his back late last week and was held out of the game for precautionary reasons.

The Dolphins practice today at 2 p.m. and the session will be open to the public.
