Sparano lays down the law

Tough guy Coach Tony Sparano put his charges on notice today with: "We're kind of out of the hurtin' people's feelings business right now. We're getting into the real deal.''

Sparano wasn't happy with Saturdays' 17-6 loss, although he did praise rookie QB Chad Henne and rookie linemen Jake Long and  Donald Thomas.

The bad news is that backup LB Kelvin Smith is most likely out for the season with a serious knee injury. He might not have made the team anyway, and now he'll get an injury settlement.

Also, we found out that he wasn't just resting OLB Joey Porter. JP hurt his back in practice last week and is day to day. The LB depth got even more thinner when OLB Charlie Anderson (hammy) went down. His hammy looks far worse than DE Vonnie Holliday's.

Sparano may be getting ready to bring in more receivers. He's tired of them dropping the ball. Ernest Wilford has gone from the most reliable veteran receiver on squad to fourth-string, now that David Kircus is stepping up.

Sparano said that Chad Pennington may get the, "dominant,'' amount of snaps at practice this week because he's seen the other guys.

Sparano praised Henne for stepping up in the pocket and making some, "big league'' throws to Kircus and Anthony Armstrong. And also for not taking a sack that would've put them out of field goal range. Instead Henne gained about 3 yards and set up Carpenter's 49 yarder.

He's not content with the special teams play. They gave up far too many yards on punt returns (four for 75 yards). He wasn't happy about the nine penalties either. Tampa has zero.

Expect a very tough practice today. Omar will keep you up to date on Chad Pennington's first day on the job.
