Title: Who's gonna get it? (quarterbacks) Post by: BigDaddyFin on August 18, 2008, 12:43:54 pm Chad Pennington? I don't know what they're paying him and he's probably the best of the 4 we have.
Josh McCown? We signed him for something like $2 mil a season John Beck? A rookie and second round pick forced to start for a bad team that will be a stalwart of NFL Follies reels for years to come Chad Henne? This year's second round pick who has played well. Who gets cut/traded/otherwise doesn't make the 53 man roster? Title: Re: Who's gonna get it? (quarterbacks) Post by: Frimp on August 18, 2008, 12:47:17 pm I can't decide between Beck and McKown
Title: Re: Who's gonna get it? (quarterbacks) Post by: fyo on August 18, 2008, 01:01:06 pm Beck (potentially) has trade value, so if you're pretty much unhappy with both, the logical thing would be to see if you could move Beck.
Regardless of which one gets the axe, I predict he'll have no problem finding a bench to warm somewhere in the NFL. Chicago, San Fran or Minnesota, maybe. Title: Re: Who's gonna get it? (quarterbacks) Post by: stinkfish on August 18, 2008, 01:25:20 pm I can't decide between Beck and McKown Me neither. But one of these guys for sure.Title: Re: Who's gonna get it? (quarterbacks) Post by: CF DolFan on August 18, 2008, 01:36:16 pm I'm guessing it is Beck. I hope he gets cut outright and not traded. Regardless of your feeling for Cameron, this guy has gotten a raw deal every since draft day. It would be nice if he could control where he winds up so that at least he will get a legitimate chance at succeeding or failing.
Title: Re: Who's gonna get it? (quarterbacks) Post by: stinkfish on August 18, 2008, 01:41:12 pm I can't agree with you on your point of hoping that Beck doesn't get traded. If he is the odd man out, then any draft pick that Miami gets for him would be worth it. You can't justify getting nothing for him after they drafted him as highly as they did, just like you can't justify not getting anything in return for Thomas.
Title: Re: Who's gonna get it? (quarterbacks) Post by: Jim Gray on August 18, 2008, 02:52:15 pm I bet Miami is shopping both guys around the league. The first one that gets any offer at all is gone.
In the likely event that neither gets an offer........it's tough to say. My gut tells me they keep McCown because of his experience. With an injury prone Pennington, I think Parcels lets the less experienced Beck go. Then the Tuna lights a candle and prays to the Virgin Mary to watch over Pennington and Henne so that he never has to see McCown on the field. Title: Re: Who's gonna get it? (quarterbacks) Post by: Dave Gray on August 19, 2008, 02:24:09 am I say get rid of McCown. There's probably some value in there somewhere for Beck. ...and the possibility that he may one day not look like an absolute abortion at QB. ...but I'm not holding my breath.
Title: Re: Who's gonna get it? (quarterbacks) Post by: formerfinsfan on August 19, 2008, 04:23:49 pm I can't imagine Beck having any trade value at this point. If Miami hopes to recoup anything for a second-round pick than the Fins should hold onto him, hopes he improves and then try and move him next off-season. McCown wouldn't be starting for any other team in the league so I don't get why anyone would feel he has value. His numbers are terrible and he hasn't proven he can win. At least Trent Dilfer showed he could win games as Kurt Warner did. You can live with average numbers if they put up wins and gets a team to the playoffs. McCown hasn't done anything but stink for lousy teams. Being the Dolphins will be lousy, it looks like McCown will be right in his element — and stink. Hope Pennington stays healthy, let Beck and Henne compete for the backup spot and hope to hell you win five games. Remember, regardless of who is under center, the Fins are not making the playoffs in 2008.
Title: Re: Who's gonna get it? (quarterbacks) Post by: DolFan619 on August 19, 2008, 07:18:50 pm I think they'll part with McCown first. They'll keep Beck until they find the right offer for him, much in the same way they did with Jason Taylor. The minute a good offer comes across the wire for Beck, he'll be sent off as well.
