Title: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: DolFan619 on August 23, 2008, 07:32:48 pm http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_football_dolphins/2008/08/sound-off-dolph.html
Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs How will the first team offense and defense expecting to receive the bulk of playing time perform. And will the defense be without Vonnie Holliday and Joey Porter. If any of those injured starting defenders play, how effective will they be? Will newly acquired quarterback Chad Pennington, who has been in the Dolphins offense for two weeks, continue to get the team in scoring territory. Pennington was 2-for-3 in his first stint as the Dolphins starting quarterback. And once the Dolphins have seen enough of Pennington's backup, rookie Chad Henne, will they put Josh McCown and John Beck into the game. Or will they bench them fearing they'll not perform favorably with the screw unit, and hurt their trade value. Will rookie receivers Davone Bess and Arena Football alumnus Anthony Armstrong continue to make plays, convincing management that they don’t need to scour the waiver wire for better talent. I suspect the Dolphins will carry seven receiver on the 53-man roster and the practice squad. Right now they have Derek Hagan, Ted Ginn Jr., Ernest Wilford and Davone Bess as locks. So, does Greg Camarillo win a spot on the 53-man roster because of his special teams play, and will Anthony Armstrong get stashed on the practice. Those two are battling it out for the one vacancy on the 53-man roster, and Armstrong will need to outperform what hits the market that's practice squad worthy. With Ronnie Brown sidelined by his thumb injury, will Patrick Cobbs and rookies Jalen Parmele and Lex Hillard be able to carry the load as Ricky Williams relief. Cobbs has done enough as a special teams contributor to earn a pass, but he needs to improve as a runner. But will Parmele shake his inconsistencies and lock up a spot on the 53-man roster? The secondary merits watching. Injured CB Michael Lehan will likely participate, but don't expect him to perform at a high level because he's still a week or two away. S Chris Crocker will receive a tryout with the starting unit, and Jason Allen will be moved around to test this team's flexibility. If you see him playing the cornerback spot in the nickel package don't spaz out because it's mainly to promote roster flexibility. I suspect the Dolphins will keep five safeties, but Renaldo Hill will have to prove he's worthy of a reprieve. Which tight end will show up, if any? Anthony Fasano has done little since join this team. David Martin's likely safe, but will Justin Peelle survive Sean Ryan? Can cool customer Dan Carpenter continue his streak of perfection. The rookie kicker is presently 6-for-6 in the exhibition season. It'll also be interesting to see if any of his kickoffs make it into the endzone. Will Boomer Grigsby do enough to hold onto the spot on the 53-man roster he's wrestled from Reagan Mauia because of his versatility. Fullback is clearly a position the Dolphins need an upgrade in, and don't be surprised if the Dolphins add one that's available on the waiver wire. So, what will you be looking for against the Chiefs, who in my opinion had the best 2008 draft. Pre-game notes, observations from Dolphins-Chiefs By Ben Volin | Saturday, August 23, 2008, 06:44 PM Goooood evening Dolfans, and welcome to Dolphin Stadium for the pivotal exhibition game between the Chiefs and Dolphins. Nothing too major to report with the Dolphins’ lineup. Chris Crocker will be starting for Jason Allen at safety, as expected, and Ronnie Brown (sprained thumb) and Charlie Anderson (strained hamstring) won’t be playing tonight. A few quick observations from the pressbox during warm-ups: About two hours before he game, Chad Pennington is getting advice from John Beck about footwork and playing on the baseball dirt. Pennington has played four games at Dolphin Stadium in his career, but this is his first game as the home quarterback. Ronnie may not be playing, but he is warming up anyway. He’s not wearing that soft cast on his right hand, and is catching passes from Ricky Williams. In case Pennington, Chad Henne, Josh McCown and John Beck all get hurt, maybe Ernest Wilford can play quarterback. He’s chucking the ball 60 yards in the air with a coach, with a nice spiral. Jeff Ireland is hanging out on the sidelines with Bob Griese and Nat Moore. And Boomer Grigsby is saying hi to all his former teammates. Boomer played three years in KC before coming to Miami this offseason. For the Chiefs, Larry Johnson is here, and so are Dwayne Bowe, first-round pick Glenn Dorsey and Palm Beach County natives Brandon Flowers and DaJuan Morgan. But among those who didn’t make the trip: RB Jamaal Charles, LB Nap Harris, LB Donnie Edwards, and first-round pick Branden Albert. Flowers, the Delray Beach-Atlantic High product who was drafted in the third round out of Virginia Tech, is listed as the starting right cornerback, playing opposite former Dolphin Patrick Surtain. Morgan, out of Riviera Beach-Suncoast, is the backup strong safety. That’s it for now. If any news happens during the game — like when Ronnie Brown injured his thumb last week against Jacksonville — I will blog about it during the game. Otherwise, check in after the final gun for some Instant Analysis and observations from the press box. Dolphins have a chance tonight to accomplish something they haven’t done since Nov. 23, 2006 — win consecutive games. Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 23, 2008, 07:52:12 pm First drive of the game they punch it all the way down to the 1 and only come away with a field goal. It's been that way all preseason. The offense can move the ball but can't score. Fukkin putzes. PUT IT IN THE END ZONE FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 23, 2008, 07:58:15 pm And they've already racked up 3 penalties. These guys need to get their act together or risk getting destroyed by the Jets on Sept 7

Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: fyo on August 23, 2008, 08:25:20 pm Nice pressure there. Fumble forced by Crowder, I think.
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: TonyB0D on August 23, 2008, 08:32:45 pm i thought penny threw a TD to pelle, what happened? now he just threw one to Fasano, who made a nice move to get in the endzone

Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: simeon on August 23, 2008, 09:23:07 pm Miami stops KC on the 1 yrd line on 4th down, nice stuff by Merlin.
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 23, 2008, 09:46:13 pm You da man Simeon. It's great to see our DB's get some picks.
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: StL FinFan on August 23, 2008, 09:53:49 pm What's this? Henne threw a pick? Is everyone going to scream for him to be cut now?
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: DolFan619 on August 23, 2008, 09:57:17 pm What's this? Henne threw a pick? Is everyone going to scream for him to be cut now? No, only Tommy. Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: TonyB0D on August 23, 2008, 09:58:51 pm WOW camarillo just ROCKED their punt returner. JACKED UP!!
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 23, 2008, 10:06:21 pm What's this? Henne threw a pick? Is everyone going to scream for him to be cut now? No, only Tommy. Wrong. Shitty play getting picked in the endzone, but Justin Peele was being covered by a guy who's a midget and would draw interest from Sunstroke. He should've gotten that ball. Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 23, 2008, 10:10:43 pm Nice bit of running by Parmele on that drive!!!!! Great second effort to get in the endzone to put the Fish up 24-0. I'll bet him and Bess make the active roster.
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 23, 2008, 10:18:55 pm Oh good grief!!!! John Beck comes in and on third and long he fumbles!!!! Pack your bags you bum!!!!
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: Philly Fin Fan on August 23, 2008, 10:19:42 pm Thanks for the link Simeon!
And it was a bad snap Tommy. Was Satele still in there? That was the center's fault. Hate to go off topic, but Tommy- can you PLEASE edit that signature pic and make it smaller? Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 23, 2008, 10:21:48 pm Thanks for the link Simeon! And it was a bad snap Tommy. Was Satele still in there? That was the center's fault. Even if it wasn't Beck's fault, you have to wonder why the turnovers happen when he's out there. Hate to go off topic, but Tommy- can you PLEASE edit that signature pic and make it smaller? I already made it smaller. Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: Philly Fin Fan on August 23, 2008, 10:26:55 pm I already made it smaller. Its 448 x 300 something pixels. Thats still a little bit too big. Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 23, 2008, 10:28:29 pm Its 448 x 300 something pixels. Thats still a little bit too big. OK. I'll have it resized within a day or two Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: Tenshot13 on August 23, 2008, 10:35:18 pm No way Tommy keep it big....the ladies like it better that way ;D hahahaha....I was very happy with the phins tonight...most of the team looked very good....GO MIAMI!
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: TonyB0D on August 23, 2008, 11:10:31 pm tommy, once again you show your ignorance. the center snapped the ball AT HIS LEFT ANLKE!!
there is NO WAY in hell beck had ANYTHING to do with that. please. ::) Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 23, 2008, 11:33:17 pm tommy, once again you show your ignorance. the center snapped the ball AT HIS LEFT ANLKE!! there is NO WAY in hell beck had ANYTHING to do with that. please. ::) At his left ankle...... meaning he had a chance to pick it up and take care of business.... but Beck has small hands. ::) Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: phinphan on August 23, 2008, 11:43:30 pm Tony I know where you are coming from, I thought Beck was the answer when we drafted him. When they put him in and he failed I blamed it on the o-line which sucked and being put in a position to early. However he has had alot more experience playing in the nfl he should have easily beaten out Henne and So should have McCown, Yet its the Chad's getting the reps. Lets face it beck is a bust . We need to trade him and cut Mccown. Pennenting, whom I did not want, but it's a good thing I am not in charge, He proved me wrong. I have a question if we keep mccown as third string do we pay him the same as if we cut him ? Because we have to hope some team will give us a pick for Beck. He is a bust. Either way I am saying dont call someone ignorant because they see a player is not worthy.
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: Philly Fin Fan on August 23, 2008, 11:52:34 pm Either way I am saying dont call someone ignorant because they see a player is not worthy. He called him ignorant because Tommy basically said "Beck came in a fumbled" and blamed him for a bad snap. A bad snap is usually the fault of the center, so don't blame the QB. If that was Pennington or Henne in there, the blame wouldn't have been on them. And for the record- I could care less about what happens to Beck. I like Henne and hope he's the long term answer. And to answer your question- we don't pay McCown anything other than the signing bonus he already received if he's cut. That bonus will still count towards this season's cap though. If he is the third strong, he still gets paid whatever his contract was for (I forget the number). Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: phinphan on August 24, 2008, 12:18:09 am I heard it was 1Million plus . I was asking because if that is the case do you think we should trade/cut and pick up another qb, or stick with one?
I mean assuming we are going to list the chads as one two of course. Edited by Philly to combine multiple posts Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: Philly Fin Fan on August 24, 2008, 12:39:47 am Phinphan-please don't post multiple messages in a row. Go back in and edit your original message to add additional thoughts (I fixed this one). Thanks.
Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: phinphan on August 24, 2008, 01:06:41 am I apologise for that .I figured since my original post was two posts up from that one that it was obvious that we were going to keep the two chads, and anyone else watching the preseason also knew that was were we were heading. Sorry if I got your briefs caught up by saying that there is NO
reason to call ANYONE ignorant just because of their thoughts...I thought that is what it meant to be a open chat room. Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: yuppi on August 24, 2008, 09:37:52 am that was a perfect pass from henne
Peele doesnt know how to run the route for his life he should've took a fact step in to draw the defender then explode outside... he just ran straight outside and henne lost all chances. Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: fyo on August 24, 2008, 09:47:46 am that was a perfect pass from henne Peele doesnt know how to run the route for his life No. That was a piss poor pass from Henne. He was supposed to put it HIGH on the outside. Instead, he put it low, inside and behind, where the only player who could get a hand on the ball was the defender. Title: Re: Sound off: Dolphins vs. Chiefs Post by: Philly Fin Fan on August 24, 2008, 10:02:31 am I apologise for that .I figured since my original post was two posts up from that one that it was obvious that we were going to keep the two chads, and anyone else watching the preseason also knew that was were we were heading. They weren't two posts apart. You had two messages in a row, which I combined into one (see the edited post- that was two consecutive posts.) We tell that to everyone, and I'm not sure if you have been asked to not do this in the past or not. You didn't get my "briefs caught up". You can express your opinions all you want. I disagreed with you, which was why I expressed mine. |
