Title: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 23, 2008, 10:31:37 pm I'll give my Shame of the Game to Wilfred Billingsley. Got toasted again tonight, just like last week in the 4th quarter against Jacksonville, and also gets called for a stupid penalty that wiped out Davone Bess's punt return.
Honorable Mention goes to John Beck. Both his drives end in turnovers. Although one, and possibly both were not his fault, you have to wonder why they happen almost every time he lines up behind center. He's clearly not a good fit for this team and needs to be given his walking papers immediately. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: dolphins4life on August 24, 2008, 09:19:59 am My shame of the game again goes to the fact that this is preseason and none of the counts.
This sucks Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: DolFan619 on August 24, 2008, 11:13:51 am No Shame of the Game for last night. That was a nice win.
Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: simeon on August 24, 2008, 01:05:06 pm The same goes to Justin Peele. He bobbled a catch in the endzone, commited a huge penalty when Miami recovered a fumble recovery. It was a really bad night for him.
Also all those penalties is a shame. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: Brian Fein on August 24, 2008, 04:43:05 pm Tommy, you are blind to think John Beck was responsible for either of those turnovers. I expect your retraction of the honorable mention immediately. All Beck did was hand the ball off all night.

Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: gocowboys31 on August 25, 2008, 01:17:42 pm Is it really necessary to have a shame of the game after winning 24-0?
Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: Dave Gray on August 25, 2008, 03:11:07 pm I wouldn't blame Beck for the fumble at the line of scrimmage, if it wasn't such a common occurrence. He didn't do a very good job of catching a low snap, nor falling on it. It wasn't his fault, per se, but he sure doesn't seem to handle adversity very well. I suppose it's just bad luck, but sometimes you have to make your own luck.
Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: SportsChick on August 25, 2008, 03:43:50 pm The snap bounced to the left before he could even move forward for it Dave. It was an awful snap - that fumbles belongs to the center.
Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: dolphins4life on August 25, 2008, 06:36:18 pm Is it really necessary to have a shame of the game after winning 24-0? Yes, when it is a preseason game. That itself is a fucking shame Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: Dave Gray on August 25, 2008, 06:37:36 pm ^ I agree. It was to the left and low.
The snap was terrible, and ultimately, the fumble belongs to the center. But when you're constantly having bad luck, it makes me wonder. Even though the snap was bad, it still hit his hands, and even though the fumble isn't his fault, he didn't fall on the ball to recover it. He just doesn't make the best of situations, good or bad. And this is going way back into last season. I'm not just talking about this one play. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: Dave Gray on August 25, 2008, 09:43:32 pm Not from what I saw on TV. I thought that the snap was low, but still hit his hand.

Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: Tenshot13 on August 25, 2008, 11:54:19 pm Wilford because he's wasting money...oh and Ginn...that's as fast as you can run on a punt return? :P
(that's sarcasm by the way) Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on August 26, 2008, 06:06:20 am Apparently, an application on a site I use to order photos makes my text on message boards go backwards.... So you didn't type that message on purpose? Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: Doc-phin on August 26, 2008, 12:21:51 pm If you can't tell by now, I think Brandon Fields is perhaps the worst punter in the NFL and have no clue why anyone thinks he is any good.
He looked absolutely embarassing next to the Chiefs' punter. He has zilch for hang-time and piss poor accuracy. He gets lucky sometimes because his kicks are soooo bad that the receiver doesn't get a chance to catch the ball and the ball rolls an extra 20 yards. I am telling you now that this will become a problem. It was a problem that went somewhat unspoken last year and will be a problem again this year. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: SportsChick on August 26, 2008, 01:35:33 pm I think 2 or 3 times during the game, either Brian or I (or both) said the phrase Shankarific
Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: Brian Fein on August 26, 2008, 01:51:06 pm Fields was nailing the corner in warmups repeatedly. Can't remember where he was kicking from. I even made a remark about it, that he kept hitting the corner with accuracy.
I don't think he's terrible. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: Doc-phin on August 26, 2008, 02:16:45 pm Fields was nailing the corner in warmups repeatedly. Can't remember where he was kicking from. I even made a remark about it, that he kept hitting the corner with accuracy. I don't think he's terrible. I guess that is why he is liked by some, because he does it in practice. Just do me a favor and forget the practice stuff and just pay attention to how quickly the ball gets to the returner, if it gets there at all. There is very little time for the coverage to get down field. I have seen no more than 5-7% decent kicks from him in games. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- Chiefs (Preseason) Post by: Dave Gray on August 26, 2008, 02:32:30 pm I think that our kick coverage makes Fields look bad. When we miss tackles and stuff, it throws off his accomplishments. I do know what you mean about under-kicking so much that the receiver can't field the ball, though.
Overall, and I've said this before, I think it's really hard to judge his performances with stats, because the way that plays turn out aren't indicative of the punter's play....both good and bad. I will pay attention extra closely in the next few games. |
