Title: Best Olympics ever! Post by: MaineDolFan on August 25, 2008, 09:49:33 am In my humble opinion, everything about the 2008 Summer Games was head and shoulders above any other winter or summer Olympics that I've ever watched.
The opening ceremony was amazing. The closing ceremony was very good. The one part that stunk was the portion that London put together. Who gives a crap about Leonna Lewis and Jimmy Page? What China did with these games might not even be topped. The games themselves were really great. I found myself watching things I would never watch before and I couldn't get enough. I am very much looking forward to the winter Olympics, normally my favorite. But WOW -- I'm going to miss these 2008 summer Olympics. Amazing. Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: MaineDolFan on August 25, 2008, 11:18:35 am I don't even understand why it has to be someone of pop culture sense.
London is hosting the games and all they can come up with, in all of their culture, history and appeal are pop culture icons? Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: Phishfan on August 25, 2008, 12:23:47 pm These were great games, but I thought no one was paying atention (as was pointed out before the games even started).
Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: MaineDolFan on August 25, 2008, 04:07:27 pm TDMMC isn't exactly a great sounding board to judge something like that.
An average of 29 million tuned in every day for the 17 days in the U.S. That's 493 million total viewers in this country. The 1st four days of the games had 16% higher viewership than the last summer games. They averaged a 30 share. A 30 share -- in the summer. Unreal. I would say people care! Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: StL FinFan on August 25, 2008, 05:24:31 pm I heard on tv that these Olympics were the highest rated ever in the US and in China.

That was my point through extreme sarcasm. Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: MaineDolFan on August 26, 2008, 10:16:07 am heck, where was Posh Spice?Even the mayor of London was undignified looking with his blazer unbuttoned, hands in his pockets, and those horrible chicklets when he smiled My wife said the same thing. He looked as out of place as a hooker at the opera. Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: run_to_win on August 26, 2008, 02:21:03 pm Regarding the opening ceremony, when did lip synching enter the realm of absolute class, grace, and beauty? Since Germany isn't scheduled to host an Olympics anytime soon, perhaps London can open with Fab Morvan?
Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: Dave Gray on August 26, 2008, 02:35:26 pm Don't forget about the fake fireworks.
Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: CF DolFan on August 26, 2008, 03:02:26 pm Don't forget about the fake fireworks. OK ... I'll bite. What fake fireworks? Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: SportsChick on August 26, 2008, 03:20:41 pm And the cute little girl lip-syncing because the actual singer was deemed "not cute enough"
Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: Dave Gray on August 26, 2008, 03:52:00 pm OK ... I'll bite. What fake fireworks? The fireworks shown on TV were not live. They were pre-recorded and played on television to appear as if they were in time with the opening ceremonies. But, at the actual stadium, there weren't fireworks. Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! I would have preferred lip synching to that painful rendition of "whole lotta love".horrible.Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! I did not know that. That kind of changes things as I was pretty impressed! Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: Dave Gray on August 27, 2008, 04:55:01 pm ^^
Yeah, not that I really give a crap, but here's the link: http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/08/12/fake.fireworks.ap/ I think that replacing the young singer with a lip-syncer that's better looking is pretty foul, though. Title: Re: Best Olympics ever! Post by: SportsChick on August 27, 2008, 05:10:59 pm The true singer was a cute kid too! She had a (gasp!) gap in her teeth
