Thanks to everyone who participated in the first "chapter" of the TDMMC Photo Contest.  I hope everyone gets an opportunity to learn and develop their skills (no pun intended). 

For the record...

Here are the rules:

1.) Each participant has 2 weeks to hit the road, plan, and execute their entry for the contest.
2.) Entries will be emailed to me.  Please limit your photo to a reasonable 800x600 resolution.  I don't need 10MP photos and I don't wanna have to spend my time resizing.
3.) Photoshopping is allowed, but please refrain from making this a photoshop contest.  No composites or major manipulations (panoramics, selective color, etc).
4.) Photos should be newly taken, not unearthed from the depths of your hard drive.
5.) Photos will be posted on these forums and voted on by members of the congregation.
6.) All entries deemed "not safe for work" will be disqualified, so no porn or nudity please.
7.) The contest is very dependent upon the honor system, and the prizes aren't good enough for you to compromise your honor.  Please do the right thing.

The second category will be:

This category deals with photographic phenomena that occurs when the viewer's perspective is forced by repetitive objects in the frame.  For example:

Remember, the object here is to grab your camera and go out and take new pictures!  So get out there and start shooting. 

The deadline for Chapter 2 entries will be September 7th, at which time all entries will be posted (anonymously, by me) for voting by the judges and Chapter 3 will be posted. 

Please email your entries to photos@thedolphinsmakemecry.com.  DO NOT POST ENTRIES IN THIS THREAD!  In your email, please include your photo, your TDMMC screen name, what the subject is, what camera (and lens, if applicable) you used for the shot, and your settings, if possible.

Bump....Interesting idea...All the things running through my head on what could be done....Wow....My head hurts now...

I'd like to just add one thing to this - consider it a suggestion.

Try to get things that occur in nature.  Don't go home and set up a bunch of pencils in a row and take a picture of them.  Staged photos (like those above, especially the apples) are less remarkable than those that are captured from everyday life.

I've been keeping my eye open for natural occuring repetitions. I just havent seen any yet.

they're out there.  anyway it was just a suggestion.  Trying to keep the focus on the picture-taking and not on who comes up with the best objects to set up on their kitchen counter.

I have a suggestion:  I don't think you should post example pictures.  I think you should put the topic, and then let people interpret that as they may.

I think we should try to judge the pictures based on the best artistic interpretation of the subject.  ...not just the clearest picture from the person that has the best camera.

I was thinking about reflectors in the road at night, but that would be dangerous. I'd have to have traffic coming toward me to catch the light in the reflectors.  ;D

I agree, which is why I asked for suggestions in the last thread.  I would like to find a way to level the playing field, where camera (or even type of camera) doesn't matter.

I have several ideas of good subjects that could be interpreted in many ways.  Would you like me to list them here, or in a PM?

Please PM them to me.

This goes for all of you who have ideas.

How come all these categories seem so tough?! ;)

How weird- when I was driving home tonight I was thinking the same thing...but then I was like hmmm how can I do this without getting killed?

Just a bump to remind everyone the entries are due this coming Sunday night.

I think mine will likely be staged. I have looked at the sides of the road both ways of my hour long daily drive to work for repetition in nature. Haven't seen anything.

Why do you get 2 weeks if you all wait till the last second anyway?

I've been taking shots, but the weather has played a factor for me. Besides, maybe we don't want you to see them until the last minute, so you don't get any ideas (since you said you have nothing!)!

I've taken a bunch, but I have not chosen one yet.

I haven't taken one yet, but it's not like I haven't been thinking about possibilities (every day).

I think 2 weeks is a good interval between deadlines. My only objection at this point is that discussions are significantly hampered by the wait for everyone to get a chance to vote. Not that I have a solution to that problem... ;)

Umm...did you go to school?  Teacher give you two weeks to do a report whole class whines that is not enough time so the teacher extends to three weeks.  The everyone starts it the night before it is do. 

I think I'm reducing the voting period for Chapter 2 to 3 days.  We'll have results a coupla days earlier. 

Doesn't mean you can't still discuss...

What,you didn't like my waterfall pic in the "Happy labor day weekend" thread?I don't think water falling can be considered repititous,though,lol.

The weather has really screwed with me and my pic. I have taken a bunch of shots but unfortunately, the weather hasn't been pleasant.
