Title: Fun Topic (probably should've been an offseason post)
Post by: Bubba on September 02, 2008, 09:15:41 pm
Did the fins leave their glory days behind when they left the Orange Bowl for Dolphins Stadium/Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Dolphins Stadium?  I mean this is just for fun, but many of the highlights and best years I remember were at the orange bowl. What do you think?

The team's success had nothing to do with the Orange Bowl...in the early 70's the team had great players on defense and offensive, a smashmouth style, and 6 starters who made the pro football hall of fame. In the 80's and 90's the quality of personnel around Marino was sketchy, Tom Olivadotti ran the defense, and the drafting was poor. The decaying Orange Bowl had nothing to do with the team's
success or failure, so sayeth DoctorD; it had to do with talent and coaching.

There were some discussions about this a few months back when they played that flag football game at the Orange Bowl.

Personally, since most sports teams change venues so often nowadays, I don't get all nostalgic over the buildings they play in. The fortune of the Fins may have coincided with switching buildings, but I see it as just coincidence.

The fortune of the Fins DEFINITELY coincided with switching buildings, but I agree that it's probably just a coincidence.

It's funny being from the North and having not been to Miami until last year, I never thought of it before.  But when I remembered the switch year, it blew me away.  I don't think there is anything behind it, but it's fun to think about as U-Miami switches stadiums.

It did, didn't it? lol

I like Dolphin Stadium better, but there was a mystique to the Orange Bowl. It did sting to see it demolished.

I'd have to agree with Frimp here.  The Orange Bowl packed fans in, and the seats were very close to the sidelines.... fans got loud and rowdy and that gave the Dolphins a crowd noise advantage they have yet to enjoy in Dolphin Stadium.

No doubt. I've always said that Joe Robbie was built too damn big for its own good. I've been to Giants Stadium, Rich Stadium, Veterans, all those places have the stands much closer to the players and its a true advantage for the home Team. That missing edge of a killer home crowd has effected this Team over the last 20 years IMO. Its the Prettiest Stadium , but FAR FAR from the meanest.  :|
