Title: Brian Cashman inked to three year extension.
Post by: MaineDolFan on October 01, 2008, 12:28:38 pm
The (few) Yankee fans hoping for a change at the top in regards to the front office will be bummed.  Cash just inked a three year extension through 2011.

I am fine with this, he has made mistakes in the past, but I still think he is one of the better GM's. He is still paying for the sins of the early 2000's monster contracts. Can't get a TRUE upgrade at 1B and other positions when you have a guy who has 5 years/$100 Million left on a deal.

The Yankees and Red Sox pretty much have the same model business plan; build up through the farm system and keep your own players when contract time comes up. The Red Sox have just been better at it. So, it's not like the Yankees are a wreck, they are just in a tough division and need to make some adjustments.

Oh yeah, and don't ever put two rookies in the rotation again to start the season. That doesn't work out. We were all excited about the idea until reality bitch slapped us. One is the maximum.

This is what I mean by "long term contracts prohibiting you from making moves". Cashman actually has a fairly good success rate with reclamation projects, but he has hard times letting go on occasion. Don't ask me why Sidney Ponson and Rasner lasted so long with Aceves in the minors, I have no answer.
