Title: Hypothetical: You're now in charge of Obama's Presidential Campaign. Post by: jtex316 on October 06, 2008, 09:04:10 am Today is October 6. Election day is on November 4, which is less than 30 days away. Currently, Obama enjoys anywhere from a 6% to a 9% lead in the National Polls (Source: CNN.com), depending on the poll and its collection methodology.
Obama today announces that YOU are now in charge of his presidential campaign. You are in charge of everything Obama - speeches, marketing, advertising, campaign trail, media, hell even his coffee. It's up to you to get Obama in the White House come November 4. Please outline (list style, bullet style, some organized and readable format) the things that YOU would do from here on out to get Obama elected president. Title: Re: Hypothetical: You're now in charge of Obama's Presidential Campaign. Post by: jtex316 on October 06, 2008, 09:11:50 am My Outline:
1. I would drill it into Obama's (and Biden's) head that this race is NOT over. Just because unscientific national polls have you anywhere leading from 6% to 9%, doesn't mean the election is a foregone conclusion. You have to continue to stand tall and give passionate speeches, as if it was all tied up. 2. I would also have Obama NOT be a pansy when McCain fires a shot across the bow - you have to fight back. Fight Fire with Fire, or the ending will be near. 3. I would advertise less on states that are a clear Obama win (California, New York), and really focus on the states that are a toss up, like Florida. I would also start to invade McCain territory a bit, like Georgia, just to tell the opposition "hey we're here and we're invading your territory". 4. These next two presidential debates have to be fought hard. McCain is going to come out swinging, so I would coach Obama to go on the offensive. Question McCain's age / issues / 14 cars / hot older wife. 5. I'd let Biden go after Palin (issues / experience / family pregnancy), and let him go after her hard. However, I wouldn't have Obama go after her - stick the president vs. the other president, and the VP vs. the other VP. Crazy things happen on election day. McCain, while seemingly holding on for dear life, can still very well what would be considered today an upset and win the whole thing. Obama cannot start celebrating quite yet. Unlike some in his party before him, he has to be able to close the game out in the 4th quarter. If not he only has himself to blame. - Stay safe. Stay boring. Don't attack Palin, even though she's an easy target for your base. It may excite their base instead. - Keep with the "McCain is a third Bush term." Keep hammering with "the fundamentals of the economy are strong." - Focus on Florida. A win in FL ends the election. - Keep your nose clean. Nothing clever, no gaffes, no "lipstick" shenanigans again. McCain's best shot is by winning a culture war, so don't give him one. Right now, the issues are doing the work for Obama. The economy is bad and McCain is taking the brunt of that frustration. Obama needs to essentially play prevent and not go all Sage Rosenfels.
