(CNN) — John McCain predicted Sunday he would beat Barack Obama at the final presidential debate this week.

"After I whip his you-know-what in this debate, we're going to be going out 24/7," the Republican nominee told volunteers at his campaign headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, sparking laughter and applause from the group. McCain immediately added: "I want to emphasize again, I respect Senator Obama. We will conduct a respectful race, and we will make sure that everybody else does, too."

Outside the doors of his campaign offices, McCain is fighting to hold on to the traditionally-red state. McCain talked Sunday about the tough fight for Virginia, where Obama currently leads by four points, 49 to 45, in the state's most recent CNN poll of polls. He also pointed to battlegrounds states like Ohio — which Sarah Palin visited Sunday — and Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.

"And I'm telling you, we're coming on and we're going to work 24/7 for the next — who's counting — 22 days," he said.

McCain acknowledged the dip in his poll numbers since the financial crisis began, but said overall trends were in his favor. "…I'd like to give you a little straight talk, we're a couple points down, ok,
nationally, but we're right in this game," he said. "The economy has hurt us a little bit in the last week or two, but in the last few days we've seen it come back up because they want experience, and they want knowledge and they want vision. And we'll give that to America, and I know that we're going to win this race."

I think he meant the economy has hurt him in the polls.

This is the problem with fat, white, old, multi-millionaire assholes with multi-millionaire wives. The economy has "hurt us a little bit"? Just a little bit you out of touch asshole? For you, yeah, but for the rest of the 99.9% of people living in this country with nowhere near your amount of money and capital, that "little bit" for you is a fucking DISASTER for the rest of us.

No, he said that 99.9% of us are experiencing a disaster. I am not, and I don't think he is either.

No, you misunderstood me. I meant that in McCain's quote, he used the words "the economy has hurt us a little bit" while talking about being hurt in the polls.

I understand the concept behind McCain's original quote.  That said, I also think it's foolish to think that these problems with the economy won't hit you just because they haven't hit yet.

Three large Maine based companies, all within five miles of my office, just laid off a total of 570 people last week alone.  All completely tied in to the value of that particular company's value taking a beating and an attempt to balance a number on a piece of paper.

Picture it like this.  You live in Houston and the economy is a hurricane coming through the gulf.  It hasn't hit you yet....but it will. 

Drive your sports car, eat that steak and live your life.  We shouldn't be paralyzed by fear.  Just keep in mind that a storm is brewin'.

Who's to blame is not the problem, since they all are to blame.  How to fix it is the problem.

I hear this a lot, but I don't really agree.  I don't think you can fix any problem unless you understand the causes of it.  Also, I think it's important to hold the appropriate parties responsible, so that we don't continue to elect the same kind of thinking.

Yet the majority of us are going to vote Democrat or Republican.

That is because too many of you either vote out of blind allegiance to an out of touch party, or because you hate the one party so much you will vote for whom ever their rival nominates. It is more than time for the people to bring a third party into the mix to shake up the established order of greed, vice, and corruption.

I don't think you'll find too many of us on here that will disagree with you, on either side.  However, the problem lies with the voting system.  If we had some kind of tiered voting that allowed people to vote, without the fear of throwing your vote away, it would be beneficial to all of us.

That is the misconception people have. If everyone stopped worrying about "throwing away" their vote by casting it to a third or fourth party candidate, viola we would have a third party. Both of the major parties keep this myth of a wasted vote alive because they fear a third party eating into their power.

That's like getting through a traffic jam by hoping everyone just hits the gas all at the same time.  It doesn't work like that.

The only way to introduce a legitimate third party is change how voting works.  Otherwise, we'll be in a cycle -- some will vote for a 3rd party and it will cost a major candidate, and it won't happen anymore.

You don't see a bunch of Nader voters going for Nader anymore.  So, people will try it once or twice and then they'll be done with it.
