Title: Pacman Jones suspended AT least 4 games for violating conduct policy.... Post by: Rick on October 14, 2008, 03:29:31 pm Pacman suspended at least 4 games for violating conduct policy
ESPN.com news services Updated: October 14, 2008, 3:12 PM ET ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Dallas Cowboys cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones has been suspended for at least four games for his most recent violation of the league's personal conduct policy, the NFL announced Tuesday. The league said Jones was involved in an alcohol-related incident at a Dallas hotel on Oct. 8. Previous reports indicated Jones was involved in an alcohol-related scuffle with a bodyguard assigned to him by the Cowboys, and that hotel employees called the police. Jones will not be paid during the suspension. Commissioner Roger Goodell will determine the ultimate length of Jones' suspension after Dallas' Week 11 game against Washington on Nov. 16. In his letter to Jones informing the player of his latest suspension, Goodell said Jones' "disturbing pattern of behavior was clearly inconsistent with the conditions I set for your continued participation in the NFL." League and law enforcement sources told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that Goodell was expected to weigh whether Jones was in potential violation of his probation, in which he was prohibited from alcohol-related incidents. When Goodell reinstated Jones from suspension before the regular season began, sources said one of the commissioner's conditions for Jones to remain an active player was that he remain in compliance with all aspects of his three-year probation from when he pleaded no contest last February to a felony in Fayette County, Ga. Police reported that Jones might have been drinking when he was involved in the scuffle with a Cowboys-assigned bodyguard last week in Dallas. But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has refuted many of the allegations and speculation. Even though police were called to the scene, no arrests were made or charges filed. Jones began his time in Dallas under close scrutiny by the league after he was suspended for the entire 2007 season for multiple violations of the conduct policy while he was a member of the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys traded for Jones before his suspension was over and he was reinstated by Goodell on Aug. 28. Goodell also said his decision on whether Jones can return to play will be based on Jones' strict compliance with the NFL and the Cowboys in relation to treatment plans and evaluations by clinical experts. Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on October 14, 2008, 03:34:36 pm This is bullshit. He wasn't arrested, no charges were filed, and he was in his hotel room. This was all internal and should be handled by the Cowboys, not the NFL.
I'd appeal this one if I was Pacman. Title: Re: Pacman Jones suspended AT least 4 games for violating conduct policy.... Post by: Dphins4me on October 14, 2008, 03:37:58 pm This is bullshit. Part of the terms of his reinstatement was the no alcohol. Its also a sign of his continuous behavior & frankly just being a dumbarse.I'd appeal this one if I was Pacman. At some point you have to be held accountable. We on in Wk. 6 & he is already causing trouble off the field. He could not stand having handcuffs on his life of being away from the party scene. Pacman is most likely gone for ever & that is not a bad thing. Title: Re: Pacman Jones suspended AT least 4 games for violating conduct policy.... Post by: fyo on October 14, 2008, 03:43:41 pm My first thought was exactly the same as Tommy's... (I'm gonna go get drunk now)
The thing is, we have no idea what happened. The guy was allowed to return only under very, very strict conditions and if his bodyguard "testified" that Jones was drunk and belligerent... possibly even assaulted him... well, then the suspension is completely understandable. It might also be that the toilet scuffle was nothing more than a bit of horseplay, but without hearing from the involved parties, we have no way of knowing - and thus no way of assessing the fairness of Goodell's punishment. Appeal what.....LMAO!!!! Zero tolerance means exactly that. You have zero rope. Internal or not that point is jones shouldn't even have put himself in that position. His daily duties should've consisted of practice and back home. He continually ran the streets and made himself to visible. The idiot has blown enough chances for 3 lifetimes. The shame of it all is that he has a 2 year old daughter. He had the opportunity to set her up for life, but he just couldn't help himself. Thank god Goodell put him out of his misery. Let's go Mike Jenkins!!! Title: Re: Pacman Jones suspended AT least 4 games for violating conduct policy.... Justified, unjustified...I keep coming back to the "what kind of idiot assaults the bodyguard that his employer paid to keep him out of trouble" line of logic, and feel that this suspension was pretty much unavoidable. If it didn't happen this week, Pacman's personality dictates that it would have been next week, or the week after that...but it WOULD have happened sooner or later.
