Title: Debate #3 Thread
Post by: jtex316 on October 15, 2008, 09:57:24 pm
Here's what this debate looks like:

Obama: "I want to do #1, #2, and #3, and McCain doesn't"
McCain (making stupid fat faces and blinking like a fish): "You know, Sen. Obama [insert some obscure crap]. He [some other crap]...I watched the Arizona Cardinals beat the Cowboys on Sunday (stupid cheesy grin".

Is there any way McCain can show respect for the person whooping his old fat ass around the country, and not make faces, sigh heavily, blink a million times, and be a total fucking asshole? He has no right to bitch about Obama's negative ads against McCain if McCain is going to act like a 17-year old debate class moron.

I would just like a regular debate - just talking. No bullshit faces, fake laughs or fake smiling, and stupid body-language. Obama is 100% respectful to the old fart, and the old fart continuously treats Obama as if he doesn't realize Obama is completely destroying him accross the country. Is McCain just one of those "I used to walk 10 miles uphill in snow both ways" old overbearing preaching assholes...or does he hate black people? It's either one or the other.

Hah! I was just saying how rude Obama is being. He won't even look at McCain when he is being spoken too. He's standing there with that smug look on his face I want to smack off him. And for the record McCain is def. winning this one so far.

You could see McCain was hungrier on this one.  I still think Obama is the better articulator of points.  I think this race just turned from a blowout to a "we'll see."

I wonder why the change now?  Did McCain finally realize he was in a campaign or something?

According to CNN and other media outlets, a polls show that debate watchers thought Obama won, 58% to 31%.

Obama's "favorable" rose three percentage points (from before the debate), while McCains fell two (63% to 66% for Obama, 41% to 39% for McCain).

Who would do a better job on taxes? Obama +15 percentage points.
Who would do a better job on health care? Obama +31 percentage points.
Who more clearly expressed their views? Obama +41 percentage points.
Who is the stronger leader? Obama +25 percentage points.
Who is the more likeable person? Obama +48 points.
Who spent more time attacking their opponent: McCain +73 percenage points.
Who is the more typical politician: McCain +19 percentage points.

The problem for McCain is that independents this election have generally not liked attacks and negative comments. Every time McCain has come out with strong attacks, he's LOST independents. It's great for firing up the base, but at this point it just feels like he's given up on independents. Unless something changes over the next three weeks, his chance rests on turnout.

He was trying hard not to insult or look like a racist or a number of other things. He wanted to be likable. I think at this point he needed to throw caution to the wind and come out with guns blazing. Too little maybe too late. Obama is definitely the better speaker. The man can make a point . But McCain is the one I'd want in a fight for sure.  However at this time I don't think what this country needs is another fight.  :|

What this country needs is someone who can get us out of this economic crisis by the end of the first presidential term.  Obama has the chance to be the next FDR........ or the next Herbert Hoover.

Did someone spray mace on John McCain before the debate.  He blinked a million times per second.

Honestly, I thought this was McCain's best debate, and the best debate between the two of all three.  McCain came out strong and had Obama on the defense for the first part of it.  When it got to the stuff about Ayers and Acorn is where I think things changed.  It made McCain look petty and Obama clearly explained it, but McCain kept hammering, unsuccessfully, in my opinion.  After that, Obama picked up steam and closed stronger than McCain.

I think that McCain has old tactics -- talking about "Joe the plumber", Herbert Hoover, town-hall meetings, etc.

Another priceless moment was when they were talking about special needs children.  Earlier McCain has mentioned "across the board spending freezes."  Obama mentioned special needs children and how there is an immediate need for spending and research.  Obama: "And that will be hard to do, John, if there is a spending freeze."

McCain had a "just f'n shot me now" look on his face.  He knew he'd be cornered on that one.  It was actually nice to see - a politician with a "shit!  Fuck!  He got me" acknowledgement.  Generally in these things both guys sit there with smug faces and "no way" expressions.  John was human, I thought that was okay in my book.

I have a pet peeve when politicians talk about autism and they don't know WTF they're talking about.  Autism is not on the rise.  There is no evidence to suggest that we have more cases of autism or that something is "causing" it.  We do, however, have increased awareness and understanding, which leads to more diagnoses.

I'm all for researching autism (or anything else) to learn more about it, but I just don't like it when you start with a mis-statement like that.

Autism is not on the rise.

You're right.  However it's not incorrect to say that diagnosis of autism is on the rise.  I think you'll find we had any many cases in the 20's as we do now, we're just better equip to detect it.

Precisely, and all of the evidence suggests this.

But you have wackos saying that it's other things (like vaccinations) causing an increase, without scientific backing.  And somehow, the news legitimizes that stance.

Title: Re: Debate #3 Thread

What people fail to acknowledge is that their child showed clear signs of autism prior to vaccination shots.  My wife and I have a friend that has a little girl and both she (my wife) and I said to ourselves that she showed clear signs.  It wasn't until our friend's daughter was 3 that she finally had her tested (she wasn't talking, wouldn't interact).  To this day our friend says it's "the shots."  I don't think she's being objective because I remember the symptoms prior to those shots taking place.

Just in dealing with kids in schools, or kids who commit crimes it does really seem that more kids are being dianosed with some form of Autism. Seems like almost every kid I have a problem with uses it as an excuse so they can use the title of SNS. A Special need student. It gives bad kids special privledges to get away with almost anything.

I'm also all for a cure and help and treatment, but even most SNS kids know right from wrong.

Back to the debate.......I really though Obabma made a great point when McCain accused him of not signing a bill that would help new born babies. Obabna has a way of explaining things very simply and to the point that Makes McCain just look........desperate.  I believe Obamas answer was do you really believe I would try to refuse emergency treatment to a new Born baby?  Bang.   It was over.     :|

But Don't diss McCain. He is not Bush. And 8-12 years ago he would have made a great President in place of GW.

Sad but true.  *sigh*

I believe Obamas answer was do you really believe I would try to refuse emergency treatment to a new Born baby?
That's what his voting record shows.  What was his comment ... something about it being too much trouble to have a doctor present?

So now unwanted babies are born perfectly healthy and left to starve to death.

Autism is a psychological disorder that is being treated like it is a medical condition.

No drug, or vaccine is going to "cure" autism.  No gene is going to be found that is a genetic marker.

Autism is infantile PTSD.  The only way to treat it is by changing the child's environment and treating the dysfunction that exist with the child's parents.

Autistic children have been treated successfully by psychologist.  Or more accurately been successfully treated by treating the parents.  However, the medical community will always post-treatment claim that the initial diagnosis of autism was incorrect, because to do otherwise would defeat their claim that it is untreatable.

The parents of the formally sick child defend and support that the initial diagnosis is wrong, because in most cases what causes autism is bad parenting.  And what fixes is is better parenting.

WTF? *** shaking my head***

As for the rise in diagnosis or actually cases ... I found this on our good ole friend Wikipedia

Most recent reviews tend to estimate a prevalence of 1–2 per 1,000 for autism and close to 6 per 1,000 for ASD;[6] because of inadequate data, these numbers may underestimate ASD's true prevalence.[16] PDD-NOS cases are the vast majority of ASD, Asperger's prevalence is about 0.3 per 1,000, and the remaining ASD forms are much rarer.[121] The number of reported cases of autism increased dramatically in the 1990s and early 2000s. This increase is largely attributable to changes in diagnostic practices, referral patterns, availability of services, age at diagnosis, and public awareness,[122] though unidentified contributing environmental risk factors cannot be ruled out.[5] It is unknown whether autism's prevalence increased during the same period; a real increase would suggest directing more attention and funding toward changing environmental factors instead of continuing to focus on genetics.[51]

This would suggest that we in fact ... just don't know.

Back on topic ...

While this was the best of the debates ... I think McCain excited his core and Obama did the same with his but I can't see this debate effecting anything significantly.

I am amazed at all of the old jokes as well the bilinking etc comments.  I mean .. where have you been? The guy is old and has ticks and twitches. This is a bout as new as Obama being black.  Of course I can assume that if people are drinking every time McCain says "friends" and Obama says"the worst economy since the great depression" they may not have been able to tell.

Also about the polls on CNN as well as some of the others ... they were admittedly taken by more democrats than republicans so I can't seriously see how they could be a reflection. No more than FOX is balanced.

The biggest problem with Autism in my opinion , is that it comes in so many different levels and forms. With some its barely a handicap. others they will go bonkers at the flip of a switch. With such a large degree of difference people abuse the title instead of just dealing with what is essentially a bad kid. A kid that just needs a kick in the ass. I see it all the time when I bring little johnnie home at 3AM after breaking into all the neighbors cars . Oh I'm so sorry......its his ADD.  ??? ::)  No. Its becuase you and your sad excuse of a partner have no idea where your Kids at and you are making excuses for the little POS.  There is no auto pilot on this Toy. You had them now take respnosibility. And if I'm not mistaken, Barack Obabma said that very same thing last night. Time to take away the video games and shut off the TV and be PARENTS.  Thats why he is getting my vote. He is in touch with what needs to be done.  As a Police officer I really feel he will make a difference.

McCain is a Good Man and of course he cares about children. But he is a bit out of touch.

So do you believe that someone who has a undiagnosed, or misdiagnosed mental disorder should be held to the same criminal statutes as a normal, rational person?

I didn't take it that he was confused.  I just thought that was the example he used because he feels Autism is on the rise. He certainly isn't the only person to feel that way.

Schieffer: So I'll begin by asking both of you this question, and I'll ask you to answer first, Sen. Obama. Why would the country be better off if your running mate became president rather than his running mate?

Obama: blah, blah blah

Schieffer: Senator?

McCain:  blah, blah blah ....

She'll be my partner. She understands reform. And, by the way, she also understands special-needs families. She understands that autism is on the rise, that we've got to find out what's causing it, and we've got to reach out to these families, and help them, and give them the help they need as they raise these very special needs children.

She understands that better than almost any American that I know.
I'm proud of her.

And she has ignited our party and people all over America that have never been involved in the political process. And I can't tell how proud I am of her and her family.

Her husband's a pretty tough guy, by the way, too.

That's too general of a question.  You can't answer that in such a broad term. Depends on the Mental disability , the severity of the disorder and of course the crime.  But that wasn't my point at all. I'm saying there are perfectly fine kids that are using these mental disorders conveniently as an excuse. Parents are using them as well instead of just admitting they are just really shitty parents.
