Title: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: MaineDolFan on October 20, 2008, 09:09:19 am I'm an idiot and deleted the original post by accident. Little tired.
So my apologies. Adding a poll to this one, chat up your reasons for taking either Tampa Bay or Philadelphia. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Dave Gray on October 20, 2008, 09:40:57 am I picked the Rays because I hate the Phillies. ...no reason other than that.
Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Brian Fein on October 20, 2008, 09:46:36 am I picked the Rays because I generally root for Florida teams across the board. I also like the Cinderella story. And the Phillies are like the Jets of the MLB.

Rays in 6 Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Sunstroke on October 20, 2008, 10:52:49 am I'm picking the Rays in 6, but will be happy either way this one goes. Personally, I hope it goes 7 games, just so we get more baseball before the curtain drops on 2008. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: MaineDolFan on October 20, 2008, 10:55:37 am Sweep.
The American League dominance continues. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Tenshot13 on October 20, 2008, 10:58:32 am ^Hope you're right ;D
Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Thundergod on October 20, 2008, 12:51:38 pm Phillies. Stickin with N.L., sick of A.L. winning everything every damn year. Reminds me of the NFC's domicance over the AFC in the 80' and 90's.
Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: AZ Fins Fan 55 on October 20, 2008, 01:15:49 pm I like what the Rays have going on and they are an exciting young team......but. I have to stick with the NL and the team that whored my Dodgers. Go Phills.
Phillies in 6!!!!! Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on October 20, 2008, 01:18:53 pm I went with Tampa because I don't care about either baseball team and I dislike the Eagles and could careless about the bucs.

I very much dislike the Eagles and their fans and am not particularly a fan of the 76'ers either so, I guess I'm taking the Rays. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Defense54 on October 20, 2008, 02:14:06 pm Rays. I had my run ins with many and eagle Fan back in the Tri stae Area. F Them! Go Rays!!!!
Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: bsfins on October 20, 2008, 02:14:44 pm I love the Rays story...but I stuck with My Roots, and Went Philly...I like the Phillies Bullpen,if they can get a lead...Later in the game..I think it's over....
Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Tenshot13 on October 23, 2008, 12:06:17 am Great pitching matchup....let down the Rays didn't win, but credit to the Phillies for an awesome pitching performance...hopefully the Rays can win the next one
GO RAYS!!! Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: EDGECRUSHER on October 23, 2008, 01:59:29 am These two teams are very evenly matched. I think this favors the Rays because it's very hard to go on the road for Games 6 and 7 in the World Series and win. Especially Game 7, very rare when that happens. I think it only happened like 5 times in history, but I could be misreading that stat.

Also credit the ump for not calling what was an obvious balk in the seventh inning. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: MaineDolFan on October 23, 2008, 08:52:02 am Sweep.
After game 1. American League domination continues. ;D Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Tenshot13 on October 23, 2008, 02:53:37 pm Quote Also credit the ump for not calling what was an obvious balk in the seventh inning. I was going to mention that, but I didn't want to seem bitter Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: MaineDolFan on October 23, 2008, 04:07:20 pm You're just bitter.
Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on October 23, 2008, 04:14:22 pm You're just bitter. Did you think that was a balk? Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: MaineDolFan on October 23, 2008, 04:19:59 pm Shuddup. You're just bitter as well.
You're all bitter. Yes, I thought it was a balk. But I also think that those calls are amazingly more subjective than a lot of people might realize. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Tenshot13 on October 23, 2008, 05:02:39 pm I also wasn't going to mention it because I don't think it would have changed the outcome...Phillie had a slightly better pitching performance and deserved to win that game.
Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on October 23, 2008, 07:45:58 pm Shuddup. You're just bitter as well. You're all bitter. Yes, I thought it was a balk. But I also think that those calls are amazingly more subjective than a lot of people might realize. I have to agree there. Umps are just as bad as officialls in other sports. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Sunstroke on October 26, 2008, 02:56:25 am Phillies up 2-1 after the win tonight... Old Man Moyer looked like Kid Dynamite, and Utley & Howard's dingers make me really want to see my postseason game boxscore tomorrow. Cole Hamels up in game 4? ...could the Rays be in trouble here? Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Philly Fin Fan on October 26, 2008, 09:00:55 am Cole Hamels up in game 4? ...could the Rays be in trouble here? I could be wrong, but I think Blanton is pitching game 4 tonight. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: CF DolFan on October 26, 2008, 10:31:06 am I understand that Phiily is pretty good and all but I see Tampa doing a Boston type thing. They are so young that there is a point where they will drop all of the World Series pressure from their shoulders and play lights out. Even if down 3-1.
Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: MaineDolFan on October 26, 2008, 11:40:07 am ...could the Rays be in trouble here? Rays sweep. (starting tonight). But seriously - no, I don't think the Rays are in trouble. Tampa needs to only win one of three on the road to keep with the formula. I simply don't think it's possible this season to beat Tampa Bay two games in a row at the Trop. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Sunstroke on October 26, 2008, 12:35:44 pm I could be wrong, but I think Blanton is pitching game 4 tonight. I was looking for that info, but couldn't find it. Is Blanton confirmed for game 4? If you're Philly, and Cole has had enough rest, don't you run him out there and try to go for a nearly insurmountable 3-1 series lead? Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: MaineDolFan on October 26, 2008, 07:07:18 pm No way. Because in the unlikely event that Coles loses than you're forced to run Myers or Blanton out there in a more vital position. You take your chances with Blanton right now because the odds that generally govern the baseball world are on the side of an offensive slug fest tonight regardless of who is pitching. Which is why you'll see Sonnanstine and not Kazmir for the exact reason.
Both clubs take their chances that they can get 5+ out of their #4's and hope they steal one tonight. Even if Tampa loses tonight, which I don't think that they will, they are still okay. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Thundergod on October 27, 2008, 02:25:52 pm Wow.
I wonder if the Rays were up 3-1, how many pages this thread would have by now. (I hear crickets...) Ha! Go Philly!!!!! NL ROCKS!! ;D Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: MaineDolFan on October 27, 2008, 03:30:15 pm Hey, I'm still chirpin'! This is one of those series that I fully expected Tampa to win in 5 or 6 games but wouldn't have been surprised by a Phillies sweep. Philly present unique matchup issues to Tampa that none of the AL squads did.
I can't imagine Coles losing at home tonight. But, if he does, Tampa wins this in 7 games. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Sunstroke on October 27, 2008, 03:40:29 pm Philly present unique matchup issues to Tampa that none of the AL squads did. I really like that answer...or at least I would if I were an AL Elitist that didn't want to admit that the NL is kicking the AL's ass right now. ;D I do hope the Rays win tonight though... I'm pretty much locked into 1st place $$$ in my postseason game if Shields or Myers get to take the hill again. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: MaineDolFan on October 27, 2008, 03:59:04 pm ^^But it's the real answer! Philly has people that create massive damage on bathpaths along with some big bats behind them. They have a different approach to each inning that the Angels, White Sox and Red Sox don't. Boston runs more than people think (and more than the Angels did) but they lacked that pop with Lowell out, Ortiz ineffective and 7, 8 and 9 in the line up basically deadwood.
Blanton pitched out of his freakin' head last night (and helped his cause with a dinger). And that's why I didn't agree with running Coles out last night and save him for tonight. If you could get a win, at home, out of Blanton then you have a choke hold on Tampa with your ace set to close it out. 'Ol Charlie couldn't have written a better script if he tried to. Now - one thing to consider if that Tampa has been "ace killers" in the playoffs thus far. They knocked around all of Chicago's pitchers as well as Boston's. Lester pitched an okay game seven but gave up too many hits. That 3-1 win could have been 9-1. Felt like 14-1. And the law of baseball averages says that SOMEONE in Tampa's lineup snaps out of it tonight. Tonight is Philly's shot. I'll say it again, if they don't close it out tonight at home they lose it all in Tampa in game 7. Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Tenshot13 on October 27, 2008, 06:13:06 pm I guess I really overlooked the Phillies because they are WHOOPIN THE RAYS ASSES!!!!! :'(
Of course a win tonight would make me a little more confident about all of this...I see it as a combination of things....the Rays are playing like shit....the Phillies are playing pretty good baseball...and the Umps are blowing a lot of calls. Come on Rays...your gonna give me a heart attack...lets see the start of a comeback tonight! Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: bsfins on October 28, 2008, 12:15:00 am interesting how two more votes for the Phillies in the past day...when they' make it up 3-1... :-\

That's big $$$ sports for you. They have more playoff games,to generate more money, and the world series gets pushed back farther and farther into the fall.I can't wait until 4 more cities get MLB teams so they can split the divisions again and have another round of playoffs and I can watch the series just as the college bowl season is starting. The world series should be played in the 1st or 2nd week of October,at the latest.Title: Re: Philles - Rays / World Series talk. Post by: Philly Fin Fan on October 28, 2008, 01:33:51 pm Game 5 will not resume tonight due to inclement weather. It is scheduled to resume Wednesday evening.

Post by: MaineDolFan on October 29, 2008, 07:28:08 pm Selig f'd up this whole WS. Game 5 shouldn't have ever started the other night. They had a team of professionals telling them that they wouldn't get past the 7th inning. So you make the Phillies burn Coles on a night they could clinch...at home. You put Tampa in a position where they need to burn their bullpen tonight knowing that they HAVE to play two more to win it. You've put all starting pitchers in a weird position with off days. Not to mention the guys that had to be out in that shit two nights ago. Rumor has it that half of both teams are now fighting severe flu like symptoms.
They should have waited to play that game until tonight or tomorrow. Now - no matter who wins this thing - I can point to reasons why game 5 f'd it all up for the losing team...and I'll have valid points. Selig is utterly useless, he proved that again this year.
