(On having a lot of family members at the game at Denver) - "Yeah, I bought 21 tickets for the game. Most of them family, probably 15 family members. Besides it was close for them from the west coast." (On having that kind of support) - "Yeah, it's always nice to have their support. Any time I see an 83 jersey in the stands I know it's a family member. They put them way up in the corner, but I can see them in the distance." (On if he talked to Chad Pennington about getting more passes thrown his way) - "I told him that I got some family watching so a couple extra balls really wouldn't hurt." (On if gets more confidence he can get open when he's in a groove) - "Yeah and you can communicate with the quarterback after what you've seen. You run a hitch, you know how they're playing it, you talk about what's the best way to get the hitch again. The coverage, they were letting me play one-on-one with the off guy. That's all you can ask for as a NFL receiver. You couldn't ask for anything more than have a guy sit eight yards off and give you a release and just that's it. They were paying attention to Teddy (Ginn) because of what he did last week of kind of rolling the safety over the top of him so it opened up a lot of opportunities for me." (On the difference of the feeling in the locker room after going 1-15 and now) - "There's nothing to compare really. It's a completely different team, completely different mentality. You can kind of see that late in games. Last year we would've found a way to lose a game as opposed to this year we find a way to win a game. That's what good teams do. Losing teams, they will find a way to lose and winning teams will somehow find a way to win and we have that mentality this year and it shows." (On how much he credits Chad Pennington's presence in the huddle) - "He's our leader and he brings a lot of poise. He comes in there, there's no panic in the huddle. He just tells us to execute, play like we've been playing. His demeanor is real calm. That helps out the whole offense. If the quarterback would've come in and you can sense or see panic, the whole offense might panic. He's been in those situations before, we've been in those situations before and his calm demeanor helps us all out. (On why he thinks the receivers have come together as a group the way they have) - "That's part of it. You try to ignore what the media says about you, but at some point the criticism gets back to you. We knew that we were considered a weak link on this team and we had the talent, we just didn't have the big names or the experience that a lot of NFL teams have. We knew that we had to stick together as a group, show the league, show the team, show our coaches what we were capable of. Chad Pennington did a great job of working with us to get us to where we need to be. We're still not there, still have some work to do, hopefully we'll show soon." (On playing against Karl Paymah in college) - "Yeah, he went to Washington State and I went to Stanford. I like to point out that Stanford beat them 58-0. I said something to him on the field, 'The Cardinal looked good against the Cougars, against your Cougars'. He said, 'Man, I don't claim them anymore'. They did that this last weekend." (On if there was anything he remembered from college that helped him yesterday against Karl Paymah) - "Not really. It had been a long time. I'm getting old. I just knew of him. I don't remember any of techniques or anything like that." (On the attitude of the players when a coach decides to go for it on fourth down) - "That's huge. The O-line played incredibly well the whole game. They controlled the line of scrimmage. All we needed was six inches, a foot maybe and we have confidence in the big guys if we need that, we'll just get right behind them. They did a great job of pushing forward." (On his personal preseason expectations coming into the season) - "To make the team was probably the first one and to compete for playing time. I didn't have specific goals. Being a starter wasn't even my goal, it was put myself in the best position to make plays whatever that role would be. I wouldn't have expected I'd be here today with this many catches. Now that I'm here, I've set new goals. I've liked the way I've played, but I can still improve. Hopefully there's more to come." (On if this is the best season he's had in his entire football career) - "In college, I want to say I had 46 career catches in all of college. I think I have 43 now for the season, so yes. Once I had in the upper 40s as a senior in high school. Not 100 percent sure. Another week or two and hopefully I'll pass all of that up." (On if he is pinching himself or should the media pinch themselves) - "I'm just enjoying the ride. It's a week-to-week thing. I feel like I have to reprove myself every week. That's how this business is. I approach every week as a new test. I have to go reprove myself." (On if he is used to being underestimated his entire career) - "Yeah, only in high school I was looked at as being the better athlete on the field. College, I was a backup. I've kind of always been the underdog. I was a walk-on, was a practice squad guy, a tryout free agent." (On if he uses being the underdog to his advantage) - "Yes, it's just a role I've gotten used to. You can't get comfortable. There's no room for complacency. I have to go out there, like I said, I have to reprove myself every year, every camp. I've been cut, I know the feeling and that's what kind of motivates me to keep going." (On if there is a trust factor between himself and Chad Pennington) - "Yeah, we have a lot of communication during the week about how we're going to run routes, what this defense will do to change the routes. He does a great job of putting the ball on the money. I consider myself a route running guy, not necessarily just a running deep ball kind of guy. We know his accuracy is great; his completion percentage is real high. The combination of me knowing where to go and him placing the ball perfectly, it works out real well." (On what would happen to the offense if defenses start to key on him) - "If they key on me, we've seen what Ted (Ginn) can do. It would be great if they key on me, Ted would go for 200 yards. If they key on Ted, hopefully I can get another 100 yards. They were rolling the safety over the top of Ted to take away the deep ball. It's what you have to do and it's a great combination of the contrast of Ted and my style. If you try to double team somebody, somebody else is open. If you double team the receivers, our tight ends are open. Somebody will get open and somebody will catch the ball." (On if this feels like a playoff team to him) - "Yeah. A couple weeks back, Coach (Tony) Sparano had a couple players come up and talk. Anthony Fasano spoke in front of the team and he said, 'Why don't we talk about the playoffs more? It's something that's not spoken about. Guys have it as a goal, but we don't really talk about it much in the locker room'. Now it's the goal. It's always been the goal. Now we to start speaking about it more, we need to expect it, we need to reach for it. That's where we need to go, that is our goal." (On his revised goals since the start of the year) - "Just to keep coming out every week and improving. I was talking with Davone Bess during the game and we were kind of looking at our opportunities that we've had. We both said that if you look back at the New York Jets tape, we wouldn't be proud of the way we played. It's just been a work in progress every week. I feel like almost every week we've taken a step forward. My goal is to keep taking those steps forward into Week 16, into hopefully playoff games and just keep improving." (On if he was surprised Denver played so far off of him) - "Their defensive scheme is known for that. Champ Bailey is normally in there and he does a great job of reading the offense, reading the quarterback and making plays off of that. With him out and a guy not as experienced coming in, I don't know if he's the most comfortable doing that or playing a different style, but they were giving me routes to run. I appreciate it." (On what it's like with the civilians these days) - "It's kind of rare that I get recognized because I'm not a big guy. I don't look like the big football player stereotype. Every now and then I get a comment, which I don't mind because it barely every happens. I try not to publicize that. Sometimes I get that. It's fun for me. I've never been in that position before. It's all part of the ride, another journey. There's nothing that's happened that's cause me to be like I should shy away from this, but as for now, it's fun." |
