Of course Mussina deserves the Gold Glove this season, 20 wins! And Pena had over 100 RBI. Looks like great defense to me!

All sarcasm aside, Jeter has 3, David Wright has 2 and Rafael Palmeiro won one when he only played 30 games in the field. The Gold Gloves are completely worthless in every way and almost never go to guys who actually deserve them. Torii Hunter was one of the worst CF'ers in the AL this season. Carlos Gomez and Melky Cabrera being the 2 best, but they aren't names and actually kinda suck, so they don't get the award.

BTW, trade Coco now while you still can get something decent in return. His defense was the worst in the AL among CF this season, and that is a far fall from what he was just 2 years ago.

1) Mauer - Very hard to judge catchers, but based on CS% it should've been Dioner. I am not a big believer in catcher ERA. I don't care how good a guy like Varitek is, if the best starter on his staff is Eric Milton, he's screwed.

2) Pena -  Kevin Youkilis called, he said your awards are stupid.

3) Pedroia - Not the best, but good enough.

4) Beltre - This one is actually dead on. Beltre is actually a pretty solid player. He is hitting better and his defense really is top notch. He just didn't live up to his contract.

5) Young - Orlando Cabrera should've won it, and you know what? Jeter should've been 2nd. I know, how the hell did THAT happen? His ZR was 2nd in the AL and he had the 2nd fewest errors. Shit, didn't see that coming. Young turned the most double plays, but that's just about number of opportunities, not actually skill.

6) Hunter - No, wrong.

7) Sizemore - Not a terrible pick, but Gomez and Melky were better. They just suck ass offensively, so they were overlooked. Melky was actually benched for being so terrible from May on.

8) Ichiro - Pretty much.

9) Mussina - Very hard to judge this. This is more of a legacy pick. He still is very good, but I really don't know if he was the best.

Defensive skills come down to way more than individual errors.  Your actions, or inactions, may not result in an error but can lead to amazingly bad defense and losses.

Derek Jeter was one of the, if not the, worst defensive SS in the league this year. 

Just as you can't give a guy with 40 home runs but a .225 BA and .299 OBP an MVP award (IE going on the 40 dingers alone), you can't judge a defensive player on individual errors (or lack thereof).

I agree with this, that's why I also used Zone Range, which is a system that shows what balls were hit in a particular players zone and how many he reached. It goes deeper into that, as a 2 hopper is easier to get to than a line drive. It's a lot more accurate than range factor, and it showed that Jeter did very well this year.

He is not very good though and this could've just been a fluke. Some people have season long flukes, it just happens. I am still in favor of him being moved to center field.
