Wow. This story is...odd.

In a nutshell: Woman from Oklahoma goes to Louisiana to do some sort of initiation to join the Klan. She gets homesick and asks to go home. A fight ensues. Their "Grand Lordship" shoots the woman.  They then go to a convenience store and ask the clerk how to get blood stains out of clothes. Clerk calls the cops, of course.

I love at the end of the article where it is said, "They were a small group but they were fairly organized." I would hate to see an unorganized group then. Seriously, if I was a sick bastard I could run one of these groups or a cult fairly easily I think.

I would think that shooting the new recruitments would have a negative effect on the growth of the group.............  Not exactly leadership 101.  ::)

When I saw the picture on this article, I thought it was of the guy who shot the woman. How was I supposed to guess that this person was actually a female?

When i lived in west-central Louisiana back in the 80s I was actually approached about joining the klan.Even in a small town like the one I lived in,most everyone thought that these guys were cowards and rejects.Even bubba rednecks like me and my friends had nothing to do with them.

I won't pass judgement on a woman who I did not even know.  People who did know her said she was very lonely.  Maybe it was a misguided attempt to belong.  The rest of the KKK, however, can kiss my ass, or maybe they can kiss Barak Obama's ass.

Sadly, the photo is credited from the Oklahoma DOC. Also this woman had NEVER been out of the state of OK. Even sadder is that her first time out of the state was to go join the Klan. WTF?!?!

Most "lonely" people just have random sex with strangers on CraigsList or something. Not join the Klan.

This whole thing is Darwinism at it's best. If you take a good look at those that were locked up, a few of them look like the freaking missing link. A couple of others look like their mom is also their sister. Ewww...

However, I have no love for Oklahoma. I am a Texas girl and was brought up to hate Oklahoma. It's like racism, but for an entire state.

But Hoodie ... Oklahoma voted for McCain and the editor of some small town paper in Oklahoma didn't even acknowledge Obama's victory on the front page!  What other proof do you need that they're all racists!

I don't believe the whole state of Oklahoma to racist.  But there certainly are racists in Oklahoma. 

But your one-sideness in defending all but the most extreme and blatant racism by whites and condemning the slightest offense made by minorities is a double standard that shows extreme bias.   

There are some pretty strange folks in Michigan,too.........maybe someone should start a new thread,"states we hate".

I have a HUGE list of states I hate. Most of them have nothing to do with them being racist. Some states just seem like the suck. (I lived in Michigan for about 9 months when I was young. My parents hated it and begged to be transferred.)

Define racist. 

If you define racist very broadly, "any preconceived  notions about how a person might think or act based on the color of the other person's skin color" then I believe most people of every race are racist.  In fact under a broad definition any company that varies its marketing based on or to appeal to different demographics is conductions some sort of -ism. 

In fact bias and prejudice are natural are even necessary to survive.  I have a bias for grapefruits colored pinkish and against ones colored yellowish. 

If you define racist more narrowly, "that you overtly treat people of different skin colors differently" than I would say the number among all people, white, black and brown drops significantly.

Don't forget that there's muted racism too.

I'm sure everyone of us has been treated poorly at one time or another because of our race.Hopefully we will someday move past this.

But I don't think that white people are necessarily "more" racist than other ethnic groups, once you've pared the definition down from natural to offensive.

It's just a fact of life. There are going to be people of all colors that don't like people that look differently from themselves. It's something that we just have to expect, and live with.

Some of the most outspoken people on Sex crimes and sexual infidelity usually come from people that committed the acts themselves. I'm not saying you are immoral in that sense.............but I think you can see how that example effects you. You claim to have no tolerance for racists...........yet you engage in racist behavior here on a daily basis. Is it different because its reverse racism instead of white on black? Excellent post.   Take the character of Archie Bunker.  Was Archie really a Racist?  It depends on your perception. If you were George Jefferson you would almost say yes. How ever to his daughter and son in law he was just ignorant.

While I wholeheartedly agree..........let us remember that the Klan itself is made up of people just like her.  Sad and lonely and looking for a place to belong. 

I have had the good luck to speak very briefly with a man named Daryl Davis. He is a black jazz musician who has also made it his life's work to befriend and, to some extent, change the minds of people who are members of/involved in the Klan. He is an inspiring figure to me, and I know that God is with him.

Nothing good has ever come from the evil organization known as the KKK, but that there are men in the world like Daryl Davis gives me hope that they will be nothing but a historical relic someday.

^^^^ good post.   I think if you took the Klan apart person by person you would probably find some decent folk that just don't know any better. Education goes along way and hopefully as each generation of young people are brought up the amount of ignorance and hate will go continue to go down as it has.
