Title: Re: Shame of the Game - Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins: 11/16/08 Post by: fyo on November 16, 2008, 04:07:04 pm We know special teams is bad. It's bad every week. You can blame the coach, and to some extent I do, but at the end of the day, our players on special teams - as a whole - are HORRIBLE.
You can't make chicken soup out of chicken shit, as the saying goes. My shame of the game is Sparano for being stupid and/or cowardly in punting on 4th and 4 on Oakland's 34. Kick the figgie or try to convert. Punting in that situation is incredibly stupid. It's not the "safe" choice, by any means. It's just a bad, bad decision. Title: Re: Shame of the Game - Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins: 11/16/08 Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on November 16, 2008, 04:09:40 pm I'm giving my Shame of the Game to special teams coach John Bonamego. Again, they allowed a punt return for a TD that put the other team in position to win the game.
Honorable mention to Chad Pennington for tucking the ball three times to get sacked, including once for a safety, and to Ronnie Brown for fumbling after a long run that led to Oakland's first points. That turned the game in a whole new direction. Title: Re: Shame of the Game - Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins: 11/16/08 Post by: Philly Fin Fan on November 16, 2008, 05:51:47 pm Here's one that a little different- Vernon Carey. It seemed like most of the pressure on Pennington came from the right side (including the sack for the safety). Anytime the pocket collapsed, the pressure was from the right.

I think today's game may cost him in the free agency bidding. If he demands a huge contract, it may be bye bye Vernon.

Luckily, the draft is pretty deep with OT's this year. Way to take that safety buddy!
Title: Re: Shame of the Game - Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins: 11/16/08 Post by: Defense54 on November 17, 2008, 10:46:00 am The Special Teams, no question about it Can't say that enough ...........as well as the officiating Team. They are either really bad or are purposly giving terrible teams breaks where they can. Just god awful. I saw it first hand in person and couldn't believe they called what they did. >:( Title: Re: Shame of the Game - Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins: 11/16/08 Post by: BigDaddyFin on November 17, 2008, 12:11:24 pm Special teams. there were really only three nominees as far as shitty plays the whole game for us.
Ronnie Brown's fumble in Oakland territory before halftime. 55 yard pass interference penalty on the ensuing possession 93 yard punt return for a touchdown that gave Oakland a lead they never really deserved. It has to be the punt return. The first two compounded in the Raiders getting only a field goal. Way to take that safety buddy! He was still in the pocket, so would have gotten an intentional grounding penalty, or else he risked throwing a pick 6 if he tried to get it to someone. Obviously, there was no one open so he took the only option, take the sack and hang on to the ball. Title: Re: Shame of the Game - Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins: 11/16/08 Post by: BigDaddyFin on November 17, 2008, 12:48:40 pm I concur. Even the safety he took was less of a problem than the punt return. The Raiders have a halfway decent defense when they feel like playing.

He had almost two whole seconds to get rid of the ball...although that is still not much time, it should be enough to get rid of the ball when you're backed up on your own goal line...he had a running back coming off of a block when he was getting pressured, so he could have at least thrown it at the RB's feet...it's just as much the play callers fault as is Penny's, and I'm really glad he didn't throw an INT, but other than the special teams playing like shit, this was one of the worst parts of the game. Blame the O-line as well, but you have to expect the other team to bring the house when your backed up like that. Special teams coverage sucks big time....they are once again the SOTG. Title: Re: Shame of the Game - Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins: 11/16/08 Post by: Dolphin-UK on November 17, 2008, 02:25:22 pm If special teams are getting SOTG every week, isn't there a point where they're not really the shame of the game, they're just performing as normal, surely there is a more inventive choice for SOTG?
Nick Saban? Yeah Saban, it must be his fault, no one has blamed him for a while :) Title: Re: Shame of the Game - Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins: 11/16/08 Post by: Defense54 on November 17, 2008, 02:52:57 pm If special teams are getting SOTG every week, isn't there a point where they're not really the shame of the game, they're just performing as normal, surely there is a more inventive choice for SOTG? Nick Saban? Yeah Saban, it must be his fault, no one has blamed him for a while :) No they are getting progressivly WORSE. It used to be missed tackles and field posistion we were giving up. Now its Goddamned 90 yd. touchdown runs. SOTG. And that stands for SHIT of the Game as far as I'm concerned. I don't suppose you could give Mrs. Maine lessons? ;) Title: Re: Shame of the Game - Oakland Raiders vs. Miami Dolphins: 11/16/08 Post by: StL FinFan on November 17, 2008, 04:23:27 pm ^ Send her over! ;D
