Title: Damnit, I want the division!!! Post by: Frimp on November 16, 2008, 07:55:09 pm Miami is 6-4, and second place in the AFC East.
They have already exceeded expectations for this season. Next week, with a Jets loss, and a Phins win, Miami is in a tie for first place with the Jets, but the Jets have the tiebreaker. Last year, I went into a sports memoribila store, and they had all sorts of cool stuff there. I asked if they had any Dolphins stuff because I didn't see any. The woman at the counter said "Well, we have some door mats in the back." Ouch. This year, here we go...Its been a miracle season so far. Its awesome. I have my swagger back. And, for those who will call me a homer, and tell me how impossible it will be for Miami to win the division, I have 2 words for you...BITE ME!!! It isn't too much of a stretch to root for the division. The teams that Miami has beaten are good teams for the most part. Here is the remaining schedule: New England (In Miami, we have a serious shot) At St. Louis (A loss is not likely) At Buffalo (Possible loss) San Fran (In Miami, not likely to lose) At KC (Loss not likely) At the Jets (We split. Chad Pennington has something to prove) Lets say we go 4-2 in the final games. We finish 10-6, and in this division, that could very well win the division. The final week could very well be a game for the division. Even if we go 2-4, its still a miracle season, and we will realisticly be able to say "We'll be back next year!" So, why not root for them like we did in the closing weeks of 2005, and into 2006 before the swagger from 2005 went away? We are very much in the playoff hunt. We control our own destiny. All we have to do is win. So, a wild card berth would be huge, but damnit, I want another division flag at the stadium. Screw the wild card! I want the DIVISION! I hope the Fins can find a way to win some of the remaining games. All said and done, next year there is no doubt the Fins should be reaching for the division.

They absolutely have to beat the Jets in the Meadowlands, no matter what. If they don't, they can kiss the division goodbye. Title: Re: Damnit, I want the division!!! Post by: EDGECRUSHER on November 16, 2008, 08:37:05 pm It's within reach, but let's not forget that the Seahawks and Raiders are terrible teams, and we won both of those games in the last minute at home, by a combined total of 4 points.
So, while we are much improved, we still aren't on the level of the Titans or Giants. Maybe not even the Colts now that their offense seems to have kicked in again. Title: Re: Damnit, I want the division!!! Post by: doctord56 on November 16, 2008, 08:41:30 pm I think realistically Miami is a middle of the pack team right now, which is a huge accomplishment given how far they have come since last year's disaster. The team has shown character in pulling out these last two wins, but are still short on talent in many areas. Winning the division would be marvelous, but I think the Jets and Pats are not going to let it happen.

If they don't, they can kiss the division goodbye. God I hate this Team. Reguardless of the Divison standings.........this game is my Superbowl. But playing like we did today we don't have a chance. :P Title: Re: Damnit, I want the division!!! Post by: doctord56 on November 16, 2008, 09:24:35 pm Miami is certainly good enough to beat St Louis, KC, and the 49ers, though given the last two games, nothing can be counted for sure in the win column. If the fates line up right, and Miami wins these three and 1 of 3 out of Buffalo/Pats/ Jets, then it's 10 and 6. That won't win the division, but it's a maybe wild card. That's a pretty damn good year, and Sparano is coach of the year.
However, I'm not counting anything in the win column until the game is over. Title: Re: Damnit, I want the division!!! While I agree that those two teams suck ... they still have talent, and they also have something to prove. Look at how close many of our games were last year ... but every team that beat us, even by a small margin chalked up a W. I'm not saying that this team is ulta talented but other than special teams, they are playing together pretty well and gaining confidence with each win. There should not be a game left on the schedule that they can point at and say there is no way we can win that one. Minimizing ST breakdowns, mental errors, etc. will go a long way to making us a better team; whether that means 8-8, 10-6 ... I'm not sure but if we are able to bring in more talent next year and stay healthy then we could be dangerous. Title: Re: Damnit, I want the division!!! Post by: Tenshot13 on November 16, 2008, 10:29:50 pm How many times do I have to say....oh nevermind...hoodie already knows what I'm gonna say....I never had a doubt in this team...GO PHINS AND WIN THAT DIVISION!!!
Title: Re: Damnit, I want the division!!! Post by: Dave Gray on November 16, 2008, 11:51:17 pm I think that we have 4 tough games and 2 easy ones:
Tough: SF NE NY BUF Easy: KC STL Realistically, we need to go 4-2. We should win our easy games, but we need to take 2 of our hard ones. I think that by grabbing the Pats game this week, it gives us some wiggle room on how to get there. I think that we can beat Buffalo again, too, but I think that it'll be hard to beat NY in NY and I think that SF will prove a very difficult game (and probably a loss) for us. Title: Re: Damnit, I want the division!!! Post by: EDGECRUSHER on November 17, 2008, 12:49:43 am If Buffalo keeps sinking, it may not be that tough of a game. That being said, if Cassel keeps going at this rate, beating the Pats seems quite unlikely with our secondary.
4-2 should do it. The loss to the Ravens hurts the tiebreaker, but if it's a 3 way tie, head to head won't matter. Other than that, no losses except the Jets affect our playoff chances just yet. If we can win next week against New England, those bitches are in big trouble. |
