Title: Where will McNabb end up?
Post by: StL FinFan on November 24, 2008, 12:13:47 pm
The writing has been on the wall for a long time and finally it looks like the Eagles are ready to dump him.   Where will he end up next?  My guess is Minnesota.  Hey, they gave Culpepper a shot.

I guess Chicago.

I agree with Minnesota, but your statement is not exactly accurate. To say "they gave Culpepper a shot" makes it sound like they took a chance on him after he had been established and then got hurt (like Miami, Oakland, and now Detroit). They drafted Culpepper based on his college resume.

I think he ends up in one of two places- Minnesota, because Brad Childress was his OC in Philly during his best years (and he drafted Tavaris Jackson because he reminded him of McNabb), or in Chicago because of the fact that they need a QB, and he may give them the hometown discount.

....Or Tampa because Gruden has a hard-on for every QB not named Garcia.

Or, back in Philly as he has been named the starter vs Arizona.

Last year I would have said Chicago as well but I really think Orton is starting to come into his own and will be a decent QB in this league.

Chicago made the bone-headed move of throwing their rookie QB to the wolves in 2005. Yes, starting a rookie MIGHT work, sometimes, but it usually doesn't - and Orton didn't get drafted in the FOURTH ROUND because he was a polished, NFL-ready college quarterback.

It's worth noting that giving him the time to develop has allowed him to do just that. Now, I'm not saying he's going to be a great quarterback, but he looks at least competent.

^^^

They went 11-5 in '05. That's throwing him to the wolves? I thought Beck was thrown to the wolves on a 1-15 team with injuries? Everyone's excuse for Ben R. is that he was on a damn good team. So now being thrown to the wolves is just starting in the NFL?  So how do you explain Grossman? Checking some stats, he played in 1 to 3 games since '03 (I'm sure just to get his feet wet), only really starting and finishing in '06, when they went to the Super Bowl. He basically simmered for 3 years, took a team to the SB in his first full year. So why sit him? Was he traumatized those 3 games in '04?

It goes both ways man,  sitting nor starting doesn't always equate to a competent QB. And it's easy to pick and choose good examples for both sides. To me, it's about the player themselves.

Yes.

(That said, the probability of success is greatly increased if the team around you doesn't suck).

Yeah, it goes both ways. Yeah, it's all about the player. No question. STATISTICALLY, however, something like 90% of rookies thrown out there bomb. And not in a good way.

That should tell you that while A FEW might be capable of handling it, you'd better be damned sure.

There's a reason the vast majority of NFL coaches prefer to sit their rookie quarterbacks at least a year. With a few exceptions, NFL coaches aren't stupid.

I think that McNabb will be playing for the Eagles next year. He looks great tonight.

Using "statistically" in all caps, and then following it with "something like" really hurts my head. It's like using "exactly" and "almost" together.

If you're quoting STATISTICS, you should just go ahead and quote them, rather than providing an estimate and labeling it as STATISTICAL fact.

;)

If you have a problem with non-exact statistics, then too bad for you. Unless your sample size includes the ENTIRE population, statistics are always going to be "something like".

Sorry ;)
