Title: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on December 14, 2008, 08:12:44 pm Shame of the Game goes to Dan Carpenter for missing a key FG near the end that could've put us in great position to win.
Honorable Mention to that official that called pass interference on Brandon London when the Niners DB clearly pulled him down on the pass play. What a bullshit call!!!! That call reiterates my opinion that officials that make calls like that need to be punched in the face a couple times!!!! Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Tenshot13 on December 14, 2008, 08:43:45 pm The Refs get my SOTG
Honorable mentions go to the phin fan non believers SHUN THE NON BELIEVERS!!! SHUUUUUNNNNN!!!!!!!! Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Thundergod on December 14, 2008, 08:46:52 pm SOTG to the frickin person in charge of camera direction. Do we really need to see Singletary 15 million times? GOD!
HM: Whoever called that pitchout to Brown that apparently cost Miami precious yards and lead to Carpenter missing by INCHES. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Frimp on December 14, 2008, 11:16:50 pm Joey Porter gave me flashbacks of Brian Cox when he pulled his helmet off. I almost came unglued when that happened.
But, my SOTG goes to Ted Ginn. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Spider-Dan on December 15, 2008, 01:40:59 am Whoever had the assignment for Isaac Bruce.
Bruce was torching us unmercifully. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: DZA on December 15, 2008, 02:46:03 am Dan carpenter for missing the Field goal -
Anybody see that ref get jacked up LOL Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Defense54 on December 15, 2008, 07:15:32 am Joey Porter gave me flashbacks of Brian Cox when he pulled his helmet off. I almost came unglued when that happened. We needed attitude since Cox left. That was a big Fuck You to the niners for dissing him all week. The penalty meant nothing becuase he knew we were kneeing the ball anyway. Gotta love me some JP!!!!!!!! Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Brian Fein on December 15, 2008, 10:39:49 am I think I gotta give my shame to Will Allen. He was falling down all over the place, getting beat repeatedly on sharp routes. A disappointing game from normally our best DB.

SOTG, for the second week in a row, goes to Tommy for calling out a kicker for missing a 49 yard field goal. When did a 49 yard field goal become a chip shot? Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: StL FinFan on December 15, 2008, 01:30:10 pm SOTG, for the second week in a row, goes to Tommy for calling out a kicker for missing a 49 yard field goal. When did a 49 yard field goal become a chip shot? Maine said it first. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Defense54 on December 15, 2008, 04:37:38 pm SOTG, for the second week in a row, goes to Tommy for calling out a kicker for missing a 49 yard field goal. When did a 49 yard field goal become a chip shot? He was right on too.........just 1 more inch. :'( Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Dave Gray on December 15, 2008, 05:24:27 pm That missed kick was pretty bad. It was with the wind, 47 yards (I think) and it didn't have the leg. It wasn't like it went left or right.
You should be able to consistently get the distance for a 47 yarder. I think you gotta make that, especially with the game on the line. It did kind of a bowling curve from the right it came back in......just an inch short. Your right though........He should be banging in 47 yds No Problamo . Man...........How did we win that game!? :| Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: MaineDolFan on December 15, 2008, 10:10:42 pm You should be able to consistently get the distance for a 47 yarder. I think you gotta make that, especially with the game on the line. Take a look at the NFL average for field goals 45-50 yards (success to failure). Check Carpenter's stats against those. And the game "wasn't on the line." Miami was up 14-3 at the time. People seem to forget that it was also something like 4th and 3 in a spot where a lot of coaches GO FOR IT. 14-3, you get the ball to start the half, the 49ers are owning the ball when they have it, why not put your foot on their throat and try to sustain the drive? ...but yeah, let's blame it on the rookie kicker. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: dolphins4life on December 15, 2008, 10:25:51 pm Ginn had a bad game, so he gets my SOTG
Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: doctord56 on December 16, 2008, 08:04:12 am I agree that it's Ted Ginn. Two catches for a lousy 6 yards, dropping a pass that would have kept a drive alive, not getting open, and generally doing nothing to help the team win.

I'll stop short of saying the game was "on the line" but it was a crucial point in the game. The Dolphins had just put together their first long drive of the entire second half. They're up 14-9 (not 14-3), and a field goal would've put the Niners in position to need a TD and 2 pointer to tie the game. By missing that field goal, the Niners not only had a chance to drive for the winning TD, but they had a much shorter field to do it. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Brian Fein on December 16, 2008, 01:49:20 pm Why is it that no one gives the SOTG to Luke Polite? He only had 2 carries for 4 yards and generally did nothing to help the team win. Why not Vonnie Holliday, who only had one ASSISTED tackle and generally did nothing to help the team win? Why is it that when Ted Ginn has a meager game, he automatically gets the SOTG for NOT having 8 catches for 140 and 2 TD's?
Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Dave Gray on December 16, 2008, 02:00:33 pm The kick would've put Miami up by 8 points, Maine. That's a big, big deal.
Plus, he was kicking with the wind. The fact that he's a rookie doesn't matter. You need to be able to make a 47 yard kick with the wind. ...and at the very least, have the distance for it. Carpenter had a very good game otherwise, and I'm not blaming him for anything. But I do think that kick falls on him. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: MaineDolFan on December 16, 2008, 02:34:25 pm ^^I think we were not on the same page. I was merely saying to Tommy that I didn't believe the SOTG should fall on Carpenter. I kind of disagree that a 47 yard field goal is automatic, even in the wind - it is still a kick that a majority of kickers DO make. So in a way we're eye level now.
And you're right about the importance of the kick, for some stupid reason I thought that kick was before the half. Title: Re: Shame of the Game- 49ers Post by: Dave Gray on December 16, 2008, 02:42:17 pm Had we lost the game, I would've probably chosen Carpenter, because most likely, that would've been what cost us.
However, as was, the D-Line didn't apply pressure. Again, we had a few sacks, but until that last play, they came from good coverage downfield. The QB had a lot of time to throw. |
