Title: FAU Owls making some noise... Post by: Sunstroke on December 27, 2008, 09:12:53 pm It's not often you get to see two Florida Atlantic University sports games on TV in the same week, even when you live in Boca Raton. I got to this week though...and the Owls sure looked good for a small school in both games as well... Motor City Bowl: Florida Atlantic: 24 Central Michigan: 21 The Owls QB, Rusty Smith, took to the air and threw for 307 yards and a pair of TDs...he got the player of the game, but it should have gone to the only FAU player who will be on an NFL roster next season. LB Frantz Joseph, who led all of division 1 with 141 tackles, had another monster game. They haven't posted the tackle totals on that game yet, but I'm certain he had a dozen or more. He was everywhere, and Central Michigan just had no answer on how to block him. He won't be a high draft pick in April, but he'll get picked. FAU is only in it's 8th season of playing at the division 1 level, but it is now 2-0 in bowl games. Hoops action... Florida Atlantic (4-8) went on the road against traditional powerhouse Kentucky (9-3), and damned near pulled off the upset, losing in the final minutes by seven points, 76-69. Owl guard Paul Graham III blew up for 31 points, mainly on little jumpers off screens. Kentucky Big, Patrick Patterson was just TOO big, finishing with 27 points, 14 boards and 3 blocks.
