Title: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: raptorsfan29 on January 08, 2009, 09:19:20 pm i remember we use to do this in the offseason and since our season is over, i decided to ask the question, what would you do as GM of the dolphins.
Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 08, 2009, 09:32:18 pm I get another pass rushing LB, and a big, fast physical WR.
Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: afphinfan on January 08, 2009, 09:45:36 pm I agree with Tommy ... but also need depth at OL, DL, and WR; Look for another safety to compliment Bell and possibly a LB to replace Crowder.
EDIT: I forgot - re-sign Bell, Goodman; potentially re-sign Carey and Crowder if price is right. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: Thundergod on January 08, 2009, 11:51:41 pm DL, DB's, Darren Sproles, WR's
Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 09, 2009, 06:56:58 am DL, DB's, Darren Sproles, WR's We don't need Sproles. We have Cobbs. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: Thundergod on January 09, 2009, 07:20:34 am No one said anything about Cobbs... ;)
Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: Brian Fein on January 09, 2009, 10:20:05 am Priority #1: Re-sign Channing Crowder
Priority #2: Re-evaluate Ricky's commitment to the team, and his contribution to the future. Priority #3: Get Camarillo healthy Priority #4: Fire Earnest Wilford Priority #5: draft - a speedy OLB, a Hines-Ward/Reggie-Wayne-type WR, Pass-rushing DT Priority #6: get Ginn to bulk up Priority #7: Work with Merling and Langford to get them to become better pass rushers. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: ochizon on January 09, 2009, 10:42:19 am As far as aqusitions:
#1 fix O-line #2 and a game changer to the secondary #3 and an explosive player the the linebacker squad #4 get a solid #1 receiver Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: Tenshot13 on January 09, 2009, 06:56:35 pm We need another WR...I don't think we should draft one, free agents that we should look at include:
T.J. Housh and Antonio Bryant (who originally comes from Miami). We need to sign Crowder and Carey...as much as I like Bell, he might be the odd man out when it comes to the resigning. Notable DB free agents: Nnamdi Asomugha, UFA, Oakland Raiders Mike Brown, UFA, Chicago Bears Brian Dawkins, UFA, Philadelphia Eagles Dawan Landry, RFA, Baltimore Ravens Dunta Robinson, UFA, Houston Texans Jermaine Phillips, UFA, Tampa Bay Buccaneers DRAFT: Round 1 - Terrence Cody...6'5'' 365lb beast that could be Ferguson's replacement Round 2 - Victor Harris, CB, Virginia Tech and George Selvie, DE, USF Round 3 - Nic Harris, S, OU...I think everyone saw him in the national title game..if he goes up draft boards, we need to get him wherever, but right now this is where he is projected. Rounds 4-7 - find a gem in the later rounds Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: fyo on January 09, 2009, 07:32:40 pm We need to sign Crowder and Carey... Carey is estimated to be worth as much as $10 million a year on the open market. You really want to pay him that kind of money? As for Crowder, I really don't know... I haven't been sold on him, but the coaches and players speak exceptionally highly of him. And we all know that he's miffed the team hasn't made an offer yet... I can't help but wonder how much he's asking. I think we're looking at $5 million a year or so. Quote Nnamdi Asomugha, UFA, Oakland Raiders No way in HELL does Asomugha become a free agent. He'll get franchised if Al Davis can't get him to sign a new contract. Quote Dunta Robinson, UFA, Houston Texans He wants to stay with the Texans. He was great before the injury, but hasn't been quite the same since. No one has a better idea of where he is in terms of his injury than the Texans, so if they believe he'll come back 100%, they'll resign him at a bit of a discount. I doubt he reaches free agency. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: bsfins on January 09, 2009, 07:38:40 pm ^^I have to admit, I don't like that list of DB's....
Nnamdi's awesome, but I'd not like to blow a huge chunk of cap space on a DB.....We're NOT ONE PLAYER AWAY Mike Brown is often injured, but good when healthy...no thanks... Brian Dawkins too old...36 next season no thanks Dawan Landry,Will cost us a pick more tha likely, and only saw the field 2 games last year...Great rookie year... :-\ Dunta Robinson...0 Ints in three years, can he stay healthy? no thanks Jermaine Philips Glass forearms! Will be 30 next year,I'd prefer to get younger.... The WR's...Housh is like 6ft 200lbs..and 32 years old..Sorry I don't like Big money contracts to Football players over 30... I doubt A.Bryant would take a cheap one or 2 year deal..... Umm restricted Free agents...Marquis Colston would be worth a shot.... and in the secondary...I'd like to take a shot at Oshiomogho Atogwe.... Sorry my 2 cents on those players.... Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: Defense54 on January 09, 2009, 08:22:56 pm DEFENSE! We need to get Big and powerful on that D Line to shut down the run and we need a great Dback to create turnovers.
We also need Special Teams help........Young Defensive stallwarts make great Special teams players. A Stud receiver would be nice ...........Some OLine depth.........But Defense is were we need to concentrate our first 3 picks to be a stronger more physical Team. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 09, 2009, 08:38:51 pm Carey is estimated to be worth as much as $10 million a year on the open market. You really want to pay him that kind of money? $10 mil?? For a right tackle that's slightly above average? I don't think so. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: run_to_win on January 09, 2009, 08:49:57 pm DEFENSE! We need to get Big and powerful on that D Line to shut down the run and we need a great Dback to create turnovers. An improved pass rush will make the DBs that much better and create turnovers. Hopefully we find a couple of gems that can both rush the QB and stuff the run.As great as NT Terrence Cody sounds, I think interior o-line and the pass rush are a higher priority. If he was available and clearly better than any guard, center, right tackle or DE available then I wouldn't be happy to have him. How many games did Ferguson play in this year? He'll be 35 next season. That's a concern but... Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: bsfins on January 09, 2009, 09:55:41 pm I don't see there being a chance in hell Antonio Bryant coming to Miami..Not with Parcells...That's the Guy that spit on parcells in Dallas, then Parcells traded him to Cleveland.....
Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: fyo on January 10, 2009, 09:18:33 am $10 mil?? For a right tackle that's slightly above average? I don't think so. That's what's been reported. For reference, the Cowboys recently signed Marc Colombo to $22 million for 4 years, despite Colombo being injury prone. Carey is better, younger and hasn't missed a single game due to injury. The Giants signed Kareem McKenzie to a $37M, 7 year deal FOUR years ago. Player salaries are, needless to say (thanks CBA), way up since then. The Colts signed Ryan Diem to a similar contract in early 2005 as well. Carey isn't regarded as "slightly above average" by analysts. I don't see enough of other teams (and when I do, I don't focus enough on tackles) to know exactly how Carey compares to anyone else, but from watching the Dolphins, I will say he's played pretty well. The stats back this up: We've had a lot more success running to the right than to the left. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: Tenshot13 on January 10, 2009, 12:45:32 pm Quote Umm restricted Free agents...Marquis Colston would be worth a shot.... I was going to mention him, but I don't think there is any way in hell the Saints let him go...if they do then snatch him up tuna! I don't see there being a chance in hell Antonio Bryant coming to Miami..Not with Parcells...That's the Guy that spit on parcells in Dallas, then Parcells traded him to Cleveland..... Good point...I had forgotten about that...if Parcells could let bygones be bygones then I would love to have him on our team long term...he has really seemed to turn a corner since his troubled past...but I doubt any of that would happen. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on January 10, 2009, 12:47:46 pm I was going to mention him, but I don't think there is any way in hell the Saints let him go...if they do then snatch him up tuna! This is only his third year, so he must be restricted, if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure the Saints will give him a first round tender. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: dolfan13 on January 10, 2009, 01:23:12 pm we need to upgrade mlb, that would mean showing crowder the door out of here ;D
getting better on both sides of the line has to be priority number one. biggest priority, i'd say a defensive end pass rusher. daydreaming, but if he hit the open market, terrell suggs ;D we also need a young defensive tackle. if you can find the right guys to fill in those roles, that takes the pressure off of your secondary, and you can get by with a weaker one. still can't plug in all the holes on this team, but obviously we do need a cornerback as well... interior o line needs a serious upgrade as well. basically look at baltimore, pitt, and tennessee, and use that as a model. continue to beef up the lines, and build out from there. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: DZA on January 13, 2009, 02:26:01 pm Defense-- miami secondary needs some retooling.
I like samson satele but i think miami needs a bigger Center. Samson can move to right guard/tackle.\ WR- still need that deep-threat guy but wont be worth it if the QB cant throw to him. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: EKnight on January 16, 2009, 02:03:08 am Figure out a way to draft Laurinaitis, because I keep reading that Channing wants more money/time than we're offering. ~EK
Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: Dphins4me on January 17, 2009, 08:06:26 am $10 mil?? For a right tackle that's slightly above average? I don't think so. Is there a better option out there? I think most Miami fans are forgetting that Carey played this year with a well below avg. guard beside him. He is worth resigning. Title: Re: You're the GM - Miami Dolphins Post by: BigDaddyFin on January 18, 2009, 04:02:33 am Draft some more recievers, a couple linebackers and as many corners and safeties as you can get your hands on.
Will Allen has maybe one year left in him. He's starting to slip and get beat and all this other shit it showed a couple times glaringly late in the year. I'm still not sure Andre Goodman is anything more than an adequate nickel corner. Show Jason Allen the door. He's had one good game in 3 years. He plays well on special teams. Crowder is adequate but it's time to look for his replacement as well we could probably use another few defensive linemen. You can pick up recievers and sometimes defensive linemen as undrafted free agents. The others you usually have to draft and if we're going to be playing Tom Brady twice a year, we're going to have to handle the spread offense better. Also and I know this is going to sound like heresy, it's probably a good idea to have an open competition at quarterback. We have two second round picks in house, Pennington takes forever to throw the ball to the outside and although I loved the way he played down the stretch, he has an injury history and doesn't play well in the playoffs. |
