Heres to hoping they are found safe and sound................. :| Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Frimp on March 01, 2009, 07:15:28 pm That sucks. I agree. Hopefully, they are ok.
When I saw this thread, I thought you were abbriviating for Seattle. I was expecting a story about drunken football players not showing up to a Seahawks team meeting or something. ;D Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on March 02, 2009, 03:32:19 pm UPDATE
They found the boat, capsized, with one of the boaters holding onto it. The other three are still missing. http://www.fanhouse.com/news/main/man-found-clinging-to-missing-boat/363537 Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Sunstroke on March 02, 2009, 07:11:40 pm An absolute tragedy... My thoughts go out to their families. To any boating members of this board...keep your asses safe out on the water. Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Defense54 on March 02, 2009, 07:28:22 pm Man.....1 found and 3 still missing. Not a good sign.
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9280632/NFL-player's-boat-found;-1-survivor,-3-still-missing?MSNHPHMA I'm far from a boating expert or sea conditions.......but why didn't all 4 of the men just cling to the boat? I'm guessing with the high seas it got lost fast? Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: bsfins on March 03, 2009, 03:10:58 pm I just saw a Clip of one of the guy's father....stil quite jovial, didn't seem too broken up..... ???
Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Brian Fein on March 03, 2009, 03:24:45 pm I am wondering why they haven't released the story from the one guy's perspective. As soon as he was found I figured we'd find out exactly what happened, but still nothing.
Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: SportsChick on March 03, 2009, 03:48:56 pm He's still out of it from what I understand - dehydration and hypothermia.
Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Phishfan on March 03, 2009, 03:51:50 pm He's talking. That is how they know the story. They were taking up the anchor when the boat flipped. No one had a life jacket on, but all four guys swam under the boat to retrieve them. All four guys were hanging on the boat for a bit but about 2:00 PM Sunday the others disappeared and he didn't know what happened to them.
Have you guys not heard it or do you think there is more to tell? Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: jtex316 on March 03, 2009, 04:53:27 pm I'm not a boating expert either - I don't know shit about the high seas.
But something isn't right about this story. SOMETHING happened here. It's not like the boat exploded and all four guys were sent flying in opposite directions, and only 1 dude was able to swim back to the boat. Here, ALL FOUR GUYS were immediately huddled together and put on their life preservers on. How is it that out of this quartet, only 1 dude remains anywhere to be seen? Did the other 3 get eaten by sharks? Or did the other 3 say "fuck this bullshit" and try to swim somewhere? Or were they drunk and just drowned and the last remaining dude used the bodies of the other 3 guys to save his own life? A LOT of questions remain here, and I think there is a BIG colossal part of this story missing. Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: SportsChick on March 03, 2009, 04:57:33 pm 14 foot seas will mess with ya clinging onto a boat
Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Phishfan on March 03, 2009, 05:06:43 pm ^^^ Exactly. These guys were not playing king of the raft in a pool. They were in 68 degree water with big waves. I'm surprised one of them held on.
Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Brian Fein on March 03, 2009, 06:06:41 pm They shouldn't have been out in 14 foot seas...
The story doesn't sit well with me. Last time they found a random boat with only one guy left, they eventually found out that the last guy murdered the other 3 and threw them overboard. And people just disappeared? Vanished into thin air.... I am with Joe - this guy isn't being completely honest. Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Denver_Bronco on March 03, 2009, 08:53:02 pm Shamu ate the other 3. Serves them well..... Poetic justice.
Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: jtex316 on March 03, 2009, 09:48:15 pm I'm not even really trying to be a jerk about this one - but this just sounds fishy to me (no pun intended). Why THIS guy out of the 4? Was he the strongest guy or just the luckiest guy? Or did some accident happen here?
When I first heard this story of "being lost at sea", i thought "ship w/o a rudder" - a ship adrift somewhere in the ocean that they would eventually track down - OR - never to be found / heard / seen from again. When they found the guy clinging on to the overturned boat, and the other 3 missing - I was really shocked about that. Let's say some turbulent wave comes crashing in and it sends a dude 20 feet apart from the boat - can't he just swim back and re-hang on? How did they originally hang on to the boat after going under the boat and putting on the life-preservers? High seas didn't sweep them away there... I hope they can somehow investigate this story and check out the boat. "3 people have just vanished forever in the ocean" just isn't good enough in 2009. Google Earth can map the ocean floor and we can't find 3 dudes floating somewhere? C'mon, man. Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Phishfan on March 04, 2009, 08:12:36 am Let's say some turbulent wave comes crashing in and it sends a dude 20 feet apart from the boat - can't he just swim back and re-hang on? It sounds simple doesn't it, but it's not. Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Defense54 on March 04, 2009, 10:01:06 am It sounds simple doesn't it, but it's not. That's what I'm figuring. When your 50 miles out it can get quite scary even for the biggest toughest NFL Player. I'm guessing they panicked and hanging on wasn't as easy as it looked. Those big muscle bound guys are probably MORE susceptible to hypothermia and cramped up quick. I hope it still turns out OK.......but its looking bad. Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Sunstroke on March 04, 2009, 10:12:06 am Let's say some turbulent wave comes crashing in and it sends a dude 20 feet apart from the boat - can't he just swim back and re-hang on? High seas like that, Joe, the wave carries you 20 feet out, and then in the time it takes you to paddle twice and swim 5 feet back, the next wave hits you and takes you 20 feet further out. You paddle a couple of times back, and then the next wave carries you further out. You see the direction this is going, and it isn't in the direction of the boat. I don't see anything suspicious here, except the idiocy of guys who either didn't know much about boating, or simply ignored safety precautions. Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Phishfan on March 04, 2009, 10:27:29 am ^^^ Right on Stroke. The boat owner's father has said his son was an experienced boater so I am guessing that they just didn't follow safety precautions.
Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: CF DolFan on March 04, 2009, 01:26:10 pm I just read an article where it says all of them were hanging onto the boat. After a while, two of the guys gave up, took off their life jackets and floated off. The other took off his jacket and tried to swim towards a light he felt he saw.
Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Frimp on March 04, 2009, 01:29:24 pm Why would they take off their life jackets? ???

Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: fyo on March 04, 2009, 01:58:20 pm ^^^Hypothermia causes disorientation. and confusion, inability to concentrate and all sorts of other crap as the brain shuts down. Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: Sunstroke on March 04, 2009, 02:18:11 pm One other thing to take into consideration when attempting to put yourself into their soggy shoes. The boat is looked on in this case as the refuge point, the place to cling to...and this is all well and good, but when the waves are that high and the sea is that rough, the boat also becomes the solid object that the massive tonnage of water is slamming your head and body against, and in some cases, you start out on top of the boat, but by the time you come down the wave, it's the boat that's coming down on top of you. Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: YoFuggedaboutit on March 04, 2009, 04:40:19 pm The story doesn't sit well with me. Last time they found a random boat with only one guy left, they eventually found out that the last guy murdered the other 3 and threw them overboard. And people just disappeared? Well there went my peace and quiet....and just when I thought defense was gone...Like a case of jock itch.... He's been back for a week now. I had a little relavation the other day meeting Mr. Parcells. Reminded me how much I love this game and the Phins. What do you say we let bygones be bygones and we just keep it Football Talk? Maybe the guy who cornholes you in the county lockup will be another Niners fan. That'll give you something to talk about when you're cuddling afterwards. :D Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Post by: MaineDolFan on March 20, 2009, 10:12:31 am I think we should judge people on individual posts, personally.
If Defense is back and talking football, let's leave it at that. Yes? I've gone a round or two with Al in the other subjects forum and, in that forum, we aren't exactly BFF's. But let's not let those discussions sour or taint something in another forum. When he left he specifically said you may be back to talk football / draft stuff. I know I don't want to be judged on the past, let's give the guy a break and talk some ball. Yes? Title: Re: NFL players missing at Sea........... Defense5499 has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. And he said he was taking his ball and going home. B is merely calling him on it which isn't a bad thing to do. The guy said he was leaving so he is naturally going to take some good natured ribbing upon coming back. I don't see any spot where B was "wiedling his power." People have power here? Really? I personally wouldn't mind flying if powers are being handed out. I find it rather amusing that you accuse someone of "immature" actions while making this statement in the same post: What's the matter?
