Title: Hodge podge thoughts,a couple questions, and a challenge!
Post by: bsfins on March 13, 2009, 02:56:19 pm
I guess this is just a hodge podge of questions, and random thoughts I’ve thought about this week….(on my trip to K.C.)

*Tuesday afternoon, My boss walks into my office, as I’m ready to walk out the door…I need to you to go to K.C. with Kelsey and Todd tonight….I had a stupid look ion my face…I said for how long? He told me they were planning on spending the week up there, wont be back till either Sunday night, or Monday night…I asked if I could take my truck, and they’d pay for gas? So I could come back early? He said. .I also mentioned I was tapped out this week, He reached into his pocket, and pulled a couple c-notes. I asked is this  a loan ? Bonus money? Bribery to get me to go? He said Bribery….I took it an went to K.C.

* Weds. Afternoon I was riding with my co workers in K.C.  (Bad, Bad idea I kissed the ground every time we made it somewhere) They wanted McDonalds for lunch, So we went in stood in line. There was this family in the line next to me, (2 parents and 3 kids), they were god awful dirty. The people at the front of my line ordered one of everything on the menu, so I went to the line behind the dirty people…The little girl (maybe 3 or 4 kept smiling and waving at me. I’d wave back she’d get all embarrassed…They ordered  3 hamburger happy meals, The parents we going to share a 6 piece Chicken mcnuggets (they debated if they had enough to get a coke too) I was thinking about the NBC nightly news series they’ve been doing their week, I’ve caught a couple of them, about doing something nice for someone) I motioned the cashier, I’d pay for it (I figured I’d use my bribery money) The cashier winked at me, The cashier said something about they can pay when the food is ready, I ordered a chicken sandwich, then got the parents each a chicken mcnuggets…In total, It was just over $24 (I wasn’t paying attention to the total) The family was just kept thanking me (my co workers thought I was off my rocker…) then the decided to get the kids a desert…It made us feel good…the cynic in me says the dirty family probably has a nicer house than I do, and they go to McDonald’s to see if people will buy them free food….But anyways…I’m throwing down a a challenge to the board members here….Do something, Give someone bus/subway fare, pay the person behind you toll on the freeway, But the person behind you at the vending machine something…So I challenge everyone on the board you have till next Friday to do something nice for someone, and post it on the board!

*I stayed in a Holiday inn the other night….I found a couple things about myself, I kept telling myself, It’s going to be great to have the Whole bed to myself without my dogs jumping up and down, sleeping on me.. It wasn’t, for starters, it was WAY too silent, no ceiling fan hum, soft breeze from the fan either…It was way to silent, almost to the point of my deafening silence…No rednecks driving by with their loud stereos, drunks yelling at each other, no ambulances or fire trucks ..It made it really hard to sleep…So are there things you have in your comfort zone when you’re trying to sleep?

Random Rant…
* I thought I was coming home Weds night, when they asked me to stay on Thursday. I was planning to make a break after our meeting Thursday,So9 I followed my Nascar driving co-worker through rush hour Traffic to Northern K.C. I realize I’m not used to driving in 5 lane highways, in rush hour….I spent ten minutes at the meeting, my coworkers cell phone rang (I had mine turned off ), my boss wondered if they could get me to go to Branson Friday…then they told me I could go home…So I stayed an extra night in K.C., and then drove in K.C. morning rush hour.. for nothing….ARGGH! So I drove from northern K.C, to Branson Thursday…More on that in a minute…

* On my Trip home from Branson, I thought I’d swing by my old House in Ponce Deleon, I thought it was the coolest house (I lived there with my ex girlfriend).I pulled down the country road….Noticed the neighbor finally finished his barn, the farmer replaced his old fence, the old lady  that lived behind me must have died (there was 3 little kids out back, and lots of Kids playground stuff)..I saw my Old mail box, My buddy made ( 16” steel pipe, filled with Concrete, then the box was made by my buddy out of a piece of 4 ft steel girder. Welded and grinded in a rough shape of a mail box, all painted jet black. It was to detour kids from playing mail box baseball ,it was rampant in the area when I lived there) Hmm But I don’t see the house…All I see is a little gravel…I pulled in what was left of my drive way, there was hardly a foundation…I had a very clear view of the Creek that was out back.. all the trees are gone…My old neighbor Kenneth saw me, And ran over.. Told me the House burnt to the ground about 2 years ago…. It made me sad, then I thought about  all the laces I’ve lived in the area.. One, now has a mortuary next door, one Burnt to the ground, our old farm is now a shopping center, My child hood home, has been rebuilt totally different, The house my parents built looks totally different….Do you ever go by the places you used to live to see what they look like now?

*Well my trip to K.C Afforded me some time off this afternoon…I get off in about 45 minutes.. My mom has the day Off, I think I’ll take her to dinner with the last of my Bribery money…She likes to eat with the Blue hairs….That means we’ll be eating at 4p.m….after that, I’m not going to leave my house till Monday when I have to go back to work!

I hope every one has a wonderful day!

Okay B, just for you, I helped a retired guy unload a heaping load of stump grindings at the compost dump.  He was parked next to me and while unloading my truck/trailer I could tell he was in distress.  Turns out he has really bad arthritis in his hands.  He sat and told me all about his time repairing helicopters at Bsmooth's stomping grounds and the '61 Buick convertible he restored while I shoveled.

I bought raffle tickets to something I don't want to win, just to give some money to autistic kids.

Last weekend, I saw a guy walking his road bike while his friend was waiting. He had a flat. (I was walking my doggie.) We walked over to my house and fixed him up enough to get home. And....the guys were old and not hot. I just did it to be nice. Which is very, very rare for me.

During Girl Scout Cookie time, instead of buying boxes for myself, I paid for and donated 6 boxes to their Cookies for the Military program. You can donate cookies and they're sent to the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. It's a pretty cool program for the soldiers, they don't know that the cookies are coming :)

Since I work from home, I haven't left the house since I read this. I'm going to keep my eye open for a good deed today.

I was at Epcot yesterday and I had two Fastpasses to Soarin' which are very hard to get.  They weren't until late in the evening, and by 6:30 pm, I was tired and wanted to leave.... as did my date.  So we agreed to forget about going on Soarin'.  I didn't want the Fastpasses to go to waste, so I began looking around for a group of two people to give them away to, and found a couple who happened to be there for the first time and wanted to ride that ride so badly but the wait was too long.  I made their day.

B, this was a while ago.  Remember the poster art you made for me for the Rams game?  I spent over $50 getting it blown up to poster size.  After the game was over, I saw a little boy about 5 years old in a Dolphins jersey and gave it to him.  He was thrilled.  I saw him again out in the concourse staring at the poster in his hands.

I went to a concert about a year ago and we were able to score row 2 tickets at the box office.  We took our middle of the floor tickets and found some people up in the rafters in all their Elton John finery and gave them our extra floor tickets.  The looks on their faces were priceless.

I have had the benefit of random acts of kindness, so I try to pass it on when I can, even if it just letting someone with one or two items ahead of me at the checkout.  You never know the effect a small act on your part can have on another person.

I figure a little good karma can never hurt. ;)
