Title: I think it's a good time to break out the term...

..."whisk," as the Yankees did just that to the Rays today.

Goodbye Rays' wild card hopes and bandwagon fans. We barely knew ye.

Okay okay, the wild card hopes are gone...I accepted that earlier last week.  Bandwagon though?  It's called building a fan base and is extremely hard to do when asshole Yankee and Redsox fan's move down to Tampa and bring their team with them.  I'm sure Marlin fan can relate.

I will tell you one thing though...the Rays aren't going anywhere...they'll be in the mix again next year and years to come, and even IF they aren't, at least I'll still be at the games.

Truth is if the Rays were in the AL Central, they probably would have as big of a lead as the Yankees. They are a very good team, but it's a tough division. Very little margin for error with the way the Top 2 teams spend and play. I applaud them for going after Burrell and trying to make a contender, but the move has been a disaster and they just can't absorb those types of mistakes like the Yanks and Sox.

They should be good to go for next year.

I didn't mean any offense. I had just finished listening to Bill Simmons' podcast on ESPN, and he and his guest were discussing how Rays fans had suddenly disappeared in the wake of their team's struggles. I just ported it over to here. I think it's gonna be hard for any new MLB team (or any new team in any professional league) to build a fan base. Most sports are so old now that, if your team hasn't been around for a while, then it's gonna be quite a while til you get a solid class of fans of your own. To make matters worse, the Yanks and Sox have a built in fan base everywhere... because they win. So, the Rays'll get there. Just not yet.

You mean fans of the team stopped paying $60 to roast in the hot sun in a horrible economy to watch a team that is out of the playoff race.

Wow, I am shocked.  I never saw that coming.  I don't know of any other team's fan base where attendance varies based on if the team is doing well or not, not single one.   ::)

The messed up thing is, teams like the Marlins and the Rays are in contention for the playoffs and get outdrawn by teams like the Pirates, Royals, Orioles, and Nationals..... and those are teams that haven't been competitive in years..... haven't even TRIED to be.

Tenshot is right when he talks about the fan bases.
