Title: Ferguson Out
Post by: ethurst22 on November 21, 2009, 07:04:20 pm
The injury carousel continues for the Dolphins.

Jason Ferguson is gone on IR and is out for the year. Its been said by the Sun-Sentinel that Miami would move Randy Starks to NG.

I'd rather have Solali and Merling at NG. Starks is more effective an DE.

Does anyone know of any NG on the practice squad?

NT/NG is one of the most violent positions in football.  It's a wonder how Jason Ferguson held up as long as he did.

Maybe we should convince Keith Traylor to come out of retirement.   ;D

Ferguson isn't on IR yet. No decision has been made, even according to the ONLY "source" of this story.

This is what the Sun-Sentinel says their source claims:

"a source says [Ferguson] suffered what appears to be a season-ending right knee injury in Thursday night's 24-17 win over the Carolina Panthers."

No kidding. I could be the source on that one. Even if it's an insider, the MRI results don't appear to be in, since -- if they were --

a) "appears" would be "believed to be" or stronger
and
b) the Dolphins would have filed the papers and someone would have reported it as such (like with Ronnie).

Sure, he might be done for the season -- probably is -- but this particular story smells a bit like the Sun-Sentinel is trying to preempt being scooped like they were with Ronnie Brown.

If this is true, this does not bode well for the rest of the season. Furgie  takes on  double teams Freeing up the rest of the line to make plays. Without him there we will see allot more inside runs which will force us to bring a safety into the box exposing the secondary to more deep pass plays. The 3-4 defense needs a fat guy in the middle Starks is about the same size, but i see him more of a pass rusher than a guy who takes on 2 blockers. I think he is athletic enough but I'm not sure he is strong enough to take on 2 Offensive linemen and hold his ground.

Considering that we already looked like the Colts D (esp. of a few years ago) against runs against Carolina, any weakening of the D-line would indeed be bad. REALLY bad.

Ferguson still hasn't been placed on IR, so there's still hope.

At least we're not the Bills with half the damn roster on IR.  Though we will definitely miss Ferguson I think we're fine with Starks and Solali who had a few decent games this year.  Our LBs need to get it done to take pressure off the safeties.  Young CBs are getting better all the time.

Ferguson is officially on IR for a torn quad. I just heard it on Sirius NFL Radio.
