Title: Matt Roth Waived!
Post by: ethurst22 on November 24, 2009, 07:09:30 pm
Wow, did not see this one coming. Here's the link...

That's a bold move.

That's shocking. And I'm going to bet there's more to this story...

The Dolphins cut Roth and Ness, but only signed TWO new player, so they basically cut Roth to do NOTHING with his roster spot. No waiting until another player was actually going to be signed or anything, just bye-bye Roth. (The extra roster spot is from Ferguson going on IR).

One of those new players signed? That would be lineman Ikaika Alama-Francis, cut by the 0-16 Lions before this season (and out of football since).

Any way you slice it, Roth was booted hard.

There must be something more than we know about this story. The nonfootball injury before the season and now he's cut? They were pretty high on him last season!!

There's gotta be more to this story than what we're reading in the news.

And Nick Saban's 2005 draft class is down to two players.

It's shocking Tommy. There had to be a major disagreement with management.

I think Rosenhaus is down to one client on Miami's team. I remember few years back when he was the Dolphins GM. (he, he, he!) :D

I guess I'm less shocked (I thought they were going to dump him earlier),he was in the last year of his contract, and we don't seem to do things like a team competeing to win now at times.

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald sheds some light on the subject.  Apparently Roth is only serviceable and is as good as he's going to get.  He wasn't producing on the field because he had missed so much time, and also Sparano was pissed that Roth had lied to him about the groin injury at the start of training camp.

This team has no intention of re-signing Roth, so why not cut him loose now and see what other players can develop?

So simply put, yet so elegant.  Couldn't agree more.

If he winds up in New England and has a career resurgence I'm going to vomit......again.

I think this is probably a good thing.  This regime seems to cut their losses quicker than guys in the past.  Really, were we ever expecting Roth to be a contributor?  If not, why waste the roster spot?

I think Roth would have been a decent linebacker if the old coaches hadn't tried to first put him into the DE role.  I think Saban and Cam ruined him, possibly forever.

He'll catch on somewhere.  And if not, maybe he'll land on the practice squad.

He can't land on the practice squad.  He's already in his fifth season and has played in a bunch of games as an active player.  To be eligible for the practice squad, you have to have three years or less in the league and there's a limit as to how many games you can be active for (not sure of exactly how many).

At this point, he either has it or he doesn't.  But I do agree that Saban and Cameron ruined him.

Sun-Sentinel is reporting he was claimed by the Browns.

He's an upgrade over their current LB's.

Good call.  I think he's better in the 4-3.

I think Roth got a raw deal.  He may have only had a few tackles, but I've seen him turn a few plays back inside and he always plays pissed.  God forbid we start cutting people for not producing.  Is it possible we could have used him on the interior line or ILB or too weak/slow?
