yeah, Brian's taken me to a number of shows because he knows I'm a theatre geek and love going to shows :D

I should sticky this thread.  This is the same j/o that gives me a hard time about watching "Snow White" with my three year old little girl!  And here he is, prancing off to broadway shows.

Hah. Not a question that needs to be answered for most guys.

There is nothing wrong with the theatre and it takes a big man to go and take his fiance to something she loves, even when he's not that into it. Granted, I wouldn't ask him to sit through Chorus Line, Cats, Phantom, Oklahoma or stuff like that, because I know that he wouldn't even get an ounce of enjoyment out of it.

Avenue Q? Hell it's funny for everyone. Seriously. Go see Avenue Q if you get the opportunity.

I love the theatre, and when I lived in Seattle, would regularly go to the 5th Ave theatre to catch great stage productions (michael crawford in phantom, les mis, etc...).

Nothing wrong or "unmanly" about enjoying the theatre.

I've seen the following in either New York or San Fran (incomplete, ones I can think of off the top of my head):

Phantom - with the original cast.  Still my favorite.
Rent - with the original cast.  Amazing.
Lion King.  Very cool.
Billy Elliot.  Not as good as the movie, but pretty darned good.
Raisin in the Sun - with P Diddy.  Amazing.
Avenue Q.  Pretty cool.
The Full Monty.  The end is something you'll never see coming.  Literally.
Chicago.  Not my fave, but it was worth the money.
Miss Saigon.  Like Chicago.

One that I haven't been able to see and desperately want to:  Wicked.

My point about Brian - I mention that I am watching a chick flick with my wife and he gives me grief and says something about my "man card."  A REAL MAN admits that he enjoys things that don't involve speeding cars, guns and blood.  He needs to embrace that side of himself instead of hiding behind his insecurity and giving me a hard time because I cried at my daughter's reaction to "Nemo on Ice."

No need to hand in man card for going to the theater....or taking your wife to a chick flick, or taking your daughter to Snow White or Nemo.....

But if you cry at the chick flick or cry when Bambi's mom gets shot or cry at the end of Nemo...yeah....you need to check the man card. 

I can't actually write this in crayon for you, so I will accent it a little for your better understanding:

Not the event.  The reaction.  Of a three year old.  Experiencing something for the first time.  Large difference.

I saw Michael perform Phantom three times during that run, with the last one being front row center of the balcony with my mother, who I'd flown up from AZ as part of her birthday package. She was thrilled to see Michael Crawford as well.

I saw Phantom in NY, twice, both during Crawford's run.  The second time he was ill and his understudy took over.  When they announced it prior to the show a groan crept along the audience, it was kind of funny.  Don't recall the understudy's name but he was pretty f'n good himself.

The only Broadway show that I have seen is Spamalot, and I cried because I was laughing so hard.

I just saw Wicked last Saturday with the wife, it was my first musical and i didn't feel like it was a waste of time at all. I'd go watch something else at a later point if the opportunity arose.

I'm going to see a play called American Buffalo next week. The guy I'm seeing picked up the tickets. I don't see anything wrong with a guy enjoying a night of theater.

I'm taking my wife to see Spring Awakening here soon.  I hear it has tits in it.  Woot!

If you enjoy theater and aren't afraid to admit it and/or if you go see movies or theater to make someone you love happy, you get a gold star on your man card, IMO.

It's supposed to be an amazing show. Lea Michele from Glee played Wendla (the female lead) on Broadway and won a Drama Desk award

Well I have only been to one show, but I have performed in several plays during our annual Shakespeare in the Park. I have also been part of Shakeseare in the Schools where we would travel around to middle schools and perform very condensed versions of Shakespeare's works for the kids.
For all the shows I have done, I have been paid a grand total of $75.

I have seen two theatrical/play type events in my life.

West Side Story was one and the other was about the life of Johnny Cash...I do not remember the name of it. I enjoyed both of them. I will say before the West Side Story one I was like this is going to totally suck but I found myself enjoying it a lot more than I thought.

I went some as a kid, I saw Annie, Oliver twist, and Grease off the top of my head at the little theater....The year after they graduated high school, the Drama department did Little shop of horrors.I could never talk the teacher into doing Rocky horro pictre show, she said she liked her job too much....(I only took Drama my senior year)

LOL.

Doing "chick stuff" like the theater results in appreciative BJs to completion from the wife.  End of thread.
