Title: Sit him or Start him: Tim Tebow
Post by: Brian Fein on April 23, 2010, 02:51:03 am
With his only camp competition being Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn, does Tim Tebow become the starting QB in Denver by default?  Or does he get the traditional "sit there while we lose a lot and learn how to play?"

Or, do you think Tebow will end up playing some position other than QB?

What say you?

I think he should learn for a season if possible. If he goes in as the starter too  many people will look upon him as a savior.

I guess I'm just a giant pessimist when it comes to Tebow, but I just don't think he has what it takes to play QB in the NFL.  With that said, he's on the roster, so you might as well give him the opportunity.  However, no starting job.  You let him get some snaps in practice, you let him play in some pre-season games, and you let him have some garbage time.

I also think that you might want to work him into some change of pace type stuff, like we attempted to use Pat White.

From there, make decisions based on his improvement, or lack thereof.

^^ I'm with you - I think the Broncos are going to try to do something different with him and play him as a "Slash" role, where he's a WR that throws the ball every now and then.

Perhaps they are going to use him in their version of the wildcat? Call it the loco pony.

A QB that just completely changed his throwing motion that wasn't that good of a thrower to begin with featuring an aging offensive line and no Brandon Marshall = Tebow is not ready to play for quite some time.

I don't care and I'm really sick and tired of hearing about how he's a "character" guy and how he has "passion" and how he is a "hard worker". So are the 250+ other guys in this draft. For every Tebow there is a Gerald McCoy who was emotional and the draft meant a lot to him. Or a Jason Paul-Pierre from Haiti, struggling his way into the US and playing junior college in Canada. Or a Jimmy Clausen who was projected to go #4 overall and is still on the board sweating it out. Or a....(you get the idea)

Intangibles are great for the locker room. At the end of the day, when you're on the field, are you intelligent (Tebow is dumb as a pile of bricks), are you good (Tebow is not), and do people respect you (He got laughed at by his fellow draft-class when he wanted to pray before a meal, and that's just the draft class - what do you think his Bronco veteran teammates will do to him?)

Sit him...Orton is a stud

;D

see, I couldn't even say that with a straight face.

Denver gacked badly in round one...no doubt in my mind.

I think if your choices are Tebow, Orton or Quinn it's like being asked if you want to get kicked, kneed or elbowed in the nuts.  No matter what you chose, it's going to make you feel like your life is ending.

This was one of the best quotes I have ever seen.

Tebow is the classic Ryan Leaf style draft bust. Super Mega Ultra Hype and will be a major disappointment to Denver Broncos and the 3 other teams he signs with later in his career if he does not lead the team to a Super Bowl. He won't even be able to get out of his division, let alone the conference to make it to a Super Bowl in Denver.

Also the other thing that no-one is discussing about Tebow is that he already has suffered 1 major concussion in late 2009. Those also pile up and pile up fast. 1 more major concussion and that could be the end of him, especially now a days where the NFL is being ultra-cautious about head injuries (and rightfully so).

How does this sound for a plan......

Instead of deciding now.......

Bring him into camp.  Have him play a couple of pre-season games and then decide of the three who is the better qb.

This won't really work out. Pre-season is full of bums and star players playing half-assed because they're all scared of getting hurt. But sure, throw Tebow out there against total scrub bums and let him fall on his face come the regular season
