If, like Ireland claims, Bryant first said that his dad was a pimp and his mom worked for his dad, then asking the prostitute question makes a lot of sense, in that context.
If it came out of the blue as some kind of Rorschach test, it certainly lacks tact. But, really, does anyone think that Ireland was being intentionally disrespectful? Was he looking for Bryant to fly across the desk and throttle him, get angry, or handle it in stride? Who knows.
