Title: Who is going to be the Next Miami dolphin Superstar?
Post by: Defense54 on May 22, 2010, 09:48:42 am
I became a fan back around 72' when I was 6 yrs of age. Throughout the 70's as I learned the game I knew and followed the Dolphins but I really wasn't that familiar with the names of the Players. I remember Bob Greise , Nat Moore and Larry Little in the Late 70's.

#57 Sean Clancy was a special teams player in 1978, and he was the son of my Fathers client (My dad was a CPA in NYC). So That was a big deal at age 12 to meet him and get a Team picture signed by him. I was starting to turn into a big Fan then.

But then in 83.........Dan Marino Joined the Ranks. The Blackwood brothers, Clayton and Duper, and My favorite from that era was, Tony Nathan. I was hooked, and for 17 yrs we all enjoyed Dan Marino . Is there any wonder Dolphin Fans live in the Past so much!!?

I don't know why but It was important for me to identify someone and cheer for them. In 96 along came Zack Thomas and I developed a passion for the defensive side of the ball. God I loved watching him. Then Taylor, Madison , and Surtain.

Now I think we have the making of a really great Team. But I do not identify with just anyone yet. Ronnie Brown did it for me a few times, but he is just not consistant enough. Ricky could have been great, but choose to be above average. I was hoping Matt Roth was going to develop into this Tackle crushing machine, but he got a boo boo and left.

Jake Long has my up most respect. He  seemes to be the real deal and every bit worthy of the first round draft choice. A True leader.   But its a tough position to cheer for you know? Who if anyone will take the reigns for the Next decade?

I'm hoping Vontae Davies turns into a beast.

Jake Long has my up most respect...

...Who if anyone will take the reigns for the Next decade?

I'm betting on Henne stepping up to be that recognizable leader that fans want to cheer for, mainly because I believe he has the talent to step it up now that his supporting cast is improving, as well as the QB position's natural gravitation toward that sort of role...but I have no problem in a pro bowl left tackle being "that guy" if necessary.

One other thing, and I apologize for the anal copy editor in me popping out, but the term you were using should have been "Jake Long has my 'utmost' respect." Pretty common misuse...just a few notches below the there-their-they're set.

Hopefully it's Henne, Marshall and Dansby.

I like to see players drafted here succeed.  That doesn't mean that I don't want Marshall and Dansby to do well, but it does mean that I'd rather see Henne, Ronnie, Long, and Davis become superstars.

Go over each decade, the 70's, 80's, 90,s  the first decade of the new Millennium. Tons of great players that we can remember. Tony Nathan , Orande Gadsen are two players that I remember really sticking out as Favs for me. They were not Huge stars but ALWAYS came through in the clutch you know? First down after first down.

But Dan Marino and Zach and ..........(That other Bald dude who shall remain nameless until he takes off his present Jersey) are really the only Players that seemed to take it to that next level the last 30 yrs or so.The rest came and went. Maybe add Richmond Webb to that List as well. He was fucking consistently Great too.

While you're at it...you take the reins (as in the reins to a horse), not the reigns (to reign is to rule, like a king).  Also a very common mistake.

Sorry, Defense...couldn't help myself.

The new star will likely be Brandon Marshall.  Ronnie's going to be 28 or 29; his time to reach "superstar" level is running out.  Long's a tackle.  They don't become superstars, generally.  Vontae Davis has a chance.  So does Sean Smith.  Henne's the most likely, though, because a QB can be a superstar by being above average (at least in his town, he can).

It damn well better be Brandon Marshall, after all the money they paid to get his ass.

Not just in his town, oh no... nationally, quite easily.
