Title: Facebook status updates that annoy me.
Post by: MaineDolFan on June 25, 2010, 10:47:00 am
I actually enjoy most people's updates, some people are quite clever.  If I have a friend with a sick child, it's nice to see the child is on the upswing.  Or someone that I know that is missing their family and they are getting on a plane to go see them.

That said, here is a sampling of some updates that drive me up the freaking wall:

1)  The "post the same thing over and over" person.  I have one friend on FB that posts the same thing (and doesn't space his wording, kind of weird).  His updates look like this:

Gym.Getting daughter after.Lovin' life.
Round two.Gym.Gettin my swell on.
Legs.Cardio.Gym.Lovin' it.
Gettin ripped.Gym.
GNC for new supps.Then gym.

Dude, seriously?  You go to the gym a lot.  We got it.

2)  Posting what you're eating, over and over.  Having something super special for dinner?  Okay, that is an event.  But the "only thing I can think to ever post is food" person pisses me off.  And to end every post with "YUM" is like finger nails on a chalk board:

"Breakfast for dinner. YUM!"
"Steak tips tonight. YUM!"
"Home made soup. YUM!"

Great.  Your life revolves around food.

3)  The inspiration quote / song lyric quote person.  They never post an original thought, it's always some random song lyric or quote.

4) The share way too much information person or using FB to try to get under their gf/bf/spouse's skin person:

"Stomach hurt this morning so bad, ended up shitting my head off and filling the toilet!"

(seriously saw that...un-friended the guy on the spot)

"Wishes that someone would take two seconds and realize two of us live in this house.  You aren't always right!!!"

Um, really?  On facebook?

Anyway, I'm bored.  I'm sure this THREAD is annoying...so I'll stop!   ;D

1. The prayer/uber religious/thank god for something really stupid ones annoy the hell out of me. I don't understand why one would pray on Facebook. I don't understand why these people say this stuff.(I've actually started blocking those people. They're all the people I went to high school with. Which is weird.)

2. The _____  loves ____ ones. No one gives a shit that you love your wife/husband/dog/kid, etc.

I recently de-friended a song-lyric person.

I have another one that's bordering on Maine's "share way too much" - I call it "purposely vague personal attack guy".  This person posts stuff like:
"I wish people would just learn to appreciate what they have because this backstabbing hurts and it has got to stop eventually"
I like the person so I won't un-friend them, but the updates are almost always the same.

The only ones that really bother me are the app accomplishment posts.  I could really give a fuck if you found your lost sheep on farmville.

^^ can't STAND those.  I have managed to ignore them all but new ones come up all the time.  The nice thing is FB allows you to ignore the application, and not ignore the person.

I drop the occasional song lyric in my FB update, but tend to quote my own poetry more than others' lyrics.  The "ate breakfast...Yum!" posts annoy me pretty good, as do the digital soapbox preachers.

^^Occasional lyric drops are fine.  Esp if you're jamming to a song that is moving you so much you want to quote it, along with a "man, I love me some LIVE" or something like that.

The person that doesn't nothing BUT that, without additional comment, is lame-o!

Couple more:

"Repost this is you love your _____(Cat, wife's tits, mother)"

Or

"99% of you won't repost this.  ________save the world, we all should be grateful.  If you agree, repost and leave it for at least a day..."

I don't like when people post "Go [sports team]"

I also don't like when people send public messages that should be private.  I saw a lot of "Happy Father's Day" messages.

I also don't like messages to dead people.  I find them trite.

I don't have a facebook account.

Problem solved.

I don't have a facebook account.

Problem solved.

Though it's not a status update, I find this equally as annoying...

I also don't like messages to dead people.  I find them trite.

A girl I went to college with - and used to have a lot of respect for - has this as her status update right now.

"Having a hard time getting through the day.  One year ago today was the worst day of my life."

Her profile pic is Michael Jackson.  The day a famous person died - someone you never met - is the worst day of your life???  She went from someone I respect to someone I might think twice about ever seeing in the real world again.

CREEPY.

I don't have a facebook account.

Problem solved.

Why do people feel the need to chime in on something when it doesn't involve them?  Here is a tip, Hoodie:  You don't need to comment on everything.  Really.  Kudos on not having a facebook account.  You're special.

See, I don't mind that. On the anniversary of my Grandma's death (who I was very close to) I had something about thinking of her and missing her. Same with Birthdays. I think I had Happy Birthday to Brian as my status on his b-day and I do the same for other family members. For all of my friends - I post on their wall, but to those super close to me, they get a little extra

I try not to let facebook status updates annoy me.

Especially sports updates, because you never know what a facebook status update can do for somebody.

For example, in the MNF Dolphins-Jets game this year, I posted a status after the Jets second fake punt that read "2 fake punts in one half, WTF?!?!?!?!?!?"

One of my facebook friends, who is a Jets fan and who became friends with me freshman before my meltdown, reacted by commenting, "Yup.  Suck it".

This was the first time I had connected with her over 2 years, so I started conversing with her, eventually I asked her if I could watch her play softball this spring.  I had followed her career on facebook for the last two years and wanted to watch her play.

She replied, "Absolutely!"

That spring, I got to watch her play and we had quite a reconnection.

So, the next time you are annoyed by a facebook status update, remember that it might be doing something for somebody.

Based on the above- I'm guessing my FB statuses have annoyed a few of you!

The "chain letter" posts.  I hate them.  99% won't repost it and neither will I.

Even though I believe, people who mention God in 99% of their updates are really annoying.

Also all the people crying over the death of a child molester like they actually knew him.

I can't recall ever being annoyed at anyone's status update. But I'm now going to make an effort to post mo sports related updates for Dave.

I like the idea behind this rant but the execution was remarkably under-achieving. This had potential.

2/10.

I had to dig this one back up to say that I am sick of reading "RIP Elvis" posts from people who are so young they can't possibly remember when he was alive.  Actually, I am sick of reading those posts period.  Move on people.

Bumping this one up again to add people who constantly post how great their life is, how blessed they are or how much in love they are.  If everything is so great, why are you always on fb?

^ Yeah, that's bad.  I have a friend where every post is about how beautiful the day is.

This is why I don't have a Facebook page.

Everyone should have a Facebook page.  It's another line of standard communication.  Even if you don't participate, it's a way to get contacted and to organize stuff, if needed.

It's like not having a mailbox, because there's so much junk mail.

Get with the times.

Agreed. I log in once or twice a week just to check things out. I don't even bother reading the updates anymore for the most part. They're a waste of my time.

But...I still get invites and stuff like that through Facebook.

I just now got this one.  Nice one Hoodie. LOL

But you should have added "Send this to all your friends or you'll be visited by the ghost of the Bambino himself...."
