Title: Amazing news for Tecmo Super Bowl fans:
Post by: Spider-Dan on August 03, 2010, 04:00:45 am
If you've read some of my posts on this old 1991 NES game before, then you won't be surprised to hear that players have thoroughly hacked the ROM file for this game and done things like updated rosters:

Or added new plays:

Or updated uniform changes since 1991:

You probably also know that they've been able to include expansion teams:

But there's always been a limitation... the league only had 28 teams in 1991, so in order to add an expansion team, they always had to replace an existing team, like so:

And they couldn't fix the divisions, because the schedule was coded deeply into the game.

Not any more.

This was a major breakthrough for Tecmo Super Bowl, allowing the game to be updated to today's league.  I look forward to playing a new season with this revamped game.

What do you use to play it?  A NES emulator?

I use Jnes - Nesticle caused errors for me.

One word: AWESOME. I'm totally downloading this.

Update:

I played last night for about half a game just to test it out. It works beautifully!

The only "issue" for me is that the original 1991 Super Tecmo Bowl was awesome for Giants fans. The Giants had just won the Super Bowl and Lawrence Taylor was not only a bad ass in the game, he was positioned on the "top" (outside) of the 3-4, which made it extremely easy to rush the QB and get sacks. His speed was very high and when in excellent health, it was near or at 100. This meant that you could sack the QB to no end. Additionally, LT was in the only position on special teams that could block a field goal or an extra point.

Obviously, I am adjusting my defensive strategy now. If I rush Antonio Pierce, that seems to work (LBs dropping into coverage never worked well in Super Tecmo Bowl).

Man, this is awesome news!!!  Thanks for providing the link, Spider, I'm gonna have to d/l this one also.  I just hope that Pat White isn't really the backup for the team in the inexplicable moment that Henne does go down and gets carried off by the trainers (b/c it's not like you can run the Wildcat on TSB anyways, regardless of play changes)..... :-\.
