Title: Dolphins hammer out a signing with Carpenter....

Bobby Carpenter finds a home in Miami
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on September 6, 2010 2:09 PM ET
Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland have re-hired one of their most famous draft misfires.

The Dolphins announced the signing of linebacker Bobby Carpenter on Monday.  They released Charlie Anderson to make room as the Dolphins continued a massive roster shakeup.  Carpenter, cut by the Rams this weekend, will bolster the inside linebacker depth with Channing Crowder hurt.

Aside from claiming four players off waivers on Sunday, the Dolphins are also changing their starting lineup. It appears that Ikaika Alama-Francis has supplanted Koa Misi as a starting outside linebacker.  And Ethan Skolnick of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Jason Allen should start at cornerback in the season opener over Sean Smith.

Allen was taken No. 16 overall in the 2006 draft, two spots ahead of where Parcells took Carpenter when he was with Dallas.

You're getting pretty good at these puns.

NOOOOOOO!

Bobby Carpenter has no business on a football field.  I live near Dallas and the Cowboy fans were absolutely thrilled when they got rid of him.  The radio hosts would literally spend 10 minutes every Monday ripping him and his play.
Jerry Jones summed it up best by saying that Bobby Carpenter was a "finesse linebacker."  He tried to mean that as a compliment, too.  Can anyone ever think of a finesse linebacker in the history of the NFL?  Isn't that exactly what a team doesn't want?

Besides, the prospects of any Ram cast off must be slim at best.

The joke named parcells is great at bringing in terrible retreads.

I'm from Dallas and I would have completely agreed with you up until last year.  Carpenter actually started to make a few plays and was a serviceable player for Dallas last year.  He actually started 2 games and had more tackles then the previous 3 years combined.  Yes he's a finesse linebacker, but he has some skills and he's still young and improving.  He'll be one of the last guys on the roster and will have a chance to play some special teams and see if he can continue to get better or until someone better comes along.  Once Crowder is healthy he'll probably be released.

Hopefully, he's just a stop gap player and will be gone after Crowder gets back, but I think we could have done better by keeping Charlie Anderson.

I wonder how improved the guy could be if he just got cut, though?

Granted, I don't know anything about a potential budding LB corps in St. Louis, but it seems to me, they could use all the help they can get there.

^^Let's just hope that we only see him on special teams.  If we see him in there at middle LB, then we have big problems.
