I'm not really all that clear about what Parcells was doing for us on a day to day, anyway.

I suppose he was managing personnel, at least in name.  So, I'm sad to see the name go, but I don't think it will make much of an on-field difference.

I do like Sparano, so far.  I am a little unclear on some of the personnel decisions, though, so maybe this will be a good thing.

I had imagined this being more of an impact to me but now that the news is here I really don't care.

My first thought is that this puts a little more heat on Sparano if the team underperforms again this year.  There is no more "In Parcels We Trust" mentality to lean on.

i guess it doesn't mean a whole lot other than the fact that you'll start to see a lot more of carl peterson around the dolphins.

Bingo!!!!   According to Steelers S Ryan Clark, he spurned a more lucrative offer in Miami and stayed in Pittsburgh because of Ireland. Ireland also stepped over the line with the Dez Bryant incident. Who knows what else Ireland has had responsibility for?   Something tells me Parcells didn't like some of Ireland's decisions this preseason and sees the writing on the wall.

Look out everyone, things could get ugly really fast.

I'm disappointed....in the subject line.  Surely you could have somehow worked in that the Tuna is no longer buying the groceries or something to that effect?  C'mon Hoodie, you have a reputation to uphold.

One of two things is happening. Either Bill sees we are self destructing and doesn't want to be a part of it or he is setting Ireland up for a fall. I find the timing way too odd to belive this was planned.

I was going for the "Dolphin-safe Tuna" angle.

Not sure what to think at this point... I suppose that as long as the right decisions get made to put the best players on the roster and best coaches on the sideline, it doesn't really matter to me who's rubberstamping the decisions.

Let's see how it plays out...I'm sure we'll get a lot more details in the coming weeks.

What negativity!  Maybe he feels like Ireland is ready to take the reins and isn't needed anymore.  He's old and maybe is thinking about retiring - for real this time.  Maybe he just thinks Ireland is "ready to be the man" and is beginning the transition back to Shady Acres Retirement Home.

It been three years...time for him to move on.  That is about BP's limit before he gets bored.

Next stop the Bills so he can be the first coach to be associated with every team in a division.

^^^ The Bills could probably use him.

Just sayin' the timing is all wrong. If it was in the offseason or at the end of a successful year I would look at it differently.

PURE SPECULATION.

Saturday's cut down day was ugly in the Dolphin's war room.  With Ireland and Parcells battle over who should stay and who gets cut.   And in the end it was finally decided that the team can not have two GMs.

Bill Belichick had great loyality to Bill Parcells and they were great friends.  But their was no way in hell BB wanted a job like Ireland and Saprano have/had with the Tuna having all the power and none of the responsiblity.  That is why he quit the Jets.

BP's job was done when the Dolphins improved from being a joke to getting a play off spot.  It time for the coach to coach and the GM to manage and BP to move on.

Tuna is bailing!! Can you blame him? Not his best work. Team is very young and maybe I'm just  pessimistic but Sparano & Ireland are just too damn stubborn & stupid. As for henne keep dreaming "meathead" ain't' getting any better.

What I'm wondering is, if Ireland and Parcells are having conflicts, why doesn't Parcells just fire Ireland and take over as GM?  He's in the position to do it.

He is almost 70 years old.

Not bad, but more likely Bill told the Dolphins this would be his last year as GM back before the draft.  Now that Draft/Preseason is over, Bill's job for this year is done so he handed off the reigns to Ireland for the rest of this year and beyond.  He'll still be around for maybe a year or so to give them his input when they want it, but he's done spending 18 hour days preparing for the Draft etc. He wants to be like Jimmy and go sit on a boat and catch fish and enjoy his days in the sun rather than sitting in a dark room watching game tape.  Can you blame him?

^^^ Could be...my reason for thinking there was fight is the very terse nature of announcement.  And lack of jovial PC.  If this was in the works all along as was being done for BP to have more time to go fishing,  I would envision more of a joint presser in which PB jokes about spending more time having fun in which Ireland praises BP for teaching him a ton and BP compliments JI on his growth.  And a general impression that this is a promotion for JI as opposed to a stepping down of BP.  My gut says this type of release is more likely to come out when the parties are not ready for a jovial presser.

BP doesn't do jovial pressers.  End of story. :)

I think we'll see how big of a stick Sparano wields, now that there isn't the long shadow of Parcells....

Maybe its also possible that Tuna didn't want his leaving to be a massive headline and take away from what Ireland and Sparano have done. By doing it with a brief statement right before the season starts, its drawing speculation, but at the same time, kind of slips to the wayside (because everyone is looking at the roster moves as well as the first game).

If it had been done in the offseason, it would've drawn all sorts of focus and been a major story. By doing it during training camp, it would've become a distraction.
